Just recently I've discovered the The Aspen Institute and it's full of great information website. The Institute's mission is to foster creative thinking & leadership for the good of our society and for the past 60 years it's members have been organizing seminars, public conferences and policy programs to spread great ideas and learn from each other. One of the most recent publications from the Institute is the "Identity in the Age of Cloud Computing: The next-generation Internet’s impact on business, governance and social interaction" by J.D. Lasica, who is a long time blogger for Socialmedia.biz, writer, strategist, journalist & entrepreneur.

If you've ever held gigs worth of content on your iPod or iPhone and lost the originals on your computer - you will love this app. You might know by now that if you connect your fully loaded iPod to your freshly wiped computer, iTunes will automatically want to erase everything on your mp3 player and start fresh. iTunes will also not allow you to transfer music or videos from your iPod back to your computer if you've erased the original file from your desktop. Nick Currie aka Momus released six albums from 1987 to 1993 on the now defunct Creation Records. Since they are no longer in print and unlikely ever to be re-issued, the Scottish singer/songwriter made a momentous decision to release them himself as free and legal online albums.
Admittedly, this is the first time I’ve heard this rather unique artist. In a feeble attempt to classify his music, I would say he comes across as a mix of Nick Drake, Robyn Hitchcock, and Richard Thompson…with traces of techno, new wave, and disco thrown in just to keep you guessing.

"Retork" is one of the first releases of a Portuguese netlabel called EnoughRecords. The label concentrates on promoting electronica, IDM, postrock, industrial, noise, glitch, drone and dark ambient music, but they say they don't limit themselves to any particular genre or guideline. Their plan is "simply release soothing sounds, emerging landscapes, from Portugal, Europe, World, into the cyberspace for whomever will listen", for free. "Retork" is a compilation album put together in response some ignorant people claiming that "netlabel artists aren't real artists. netlabel music isn't real music" and it featuring tracks by Mosaik, Aisth, Kilowatts, Sense, Makunouchi Bento, Duncan Avoid, Xhale, Julien Neto, Kschzt, Khonnor, Quobe, Fyzix, Sinespree and Nullsleep.

Audacity is an user-friendly, free & open source audio editor. It is currently available for almost all operating systems, including Windows, Mac OS X, GNU/Linux and others. The software gets great reviews and ranks up there with some of the best in it's genre because of it's "clean interface, excellent features, and support for 32-bit floating-point audio" (and a great price if I may add). With Audacity, you can easily record/import audio, edit the files, add effects, and export to your desired file format.
