FrostWire 4.18.1 - Free BitTorrent/Gnutella Client

Download FrostWire

thumbnail screenshot of Frostwire 4.18.1A new version of FrostWire 4.18.1 is finally out for Windows, Mac and Linux. This release focuses in fixing many issues our community complained about - mostly related to the connectivity and the media player. FrostWire 4.18.1 updates the "Connection Doctor" strategy and connects to a new network of UHC servers. It addresses a severe bug in the media player. It will now work around an "Invalid Frame Header" bug on some mp3 files and all mp3s should play fine now. Mac users will be happy to find a bug related to opening BitTorrent files completely fixed.

Changelog:

Version 4.18.1 (August 2009)
- Updates on the "Connection Doctor" component, to address connection issues.
Connects to new network of UHC servers.
- Updates on secondary (after-search) loading logic.
Loads secondary overlay on the spot, more room for FrostClick artist promotions.
- Fixes a bug where some mp3 would not play. Volume, Pause and skip are disabled
intentionally during workaround.
- Fixes a bug where the media player would loop non-stop without playing all the
songs on a playlist once it found an mp3 it could not play
- Fixes a bug on for Mac OSX where FrostWire would only download torrents opened via
Finder if it was already running. Torrents now launch FrostWire and start downloading
at
 once.
- Updates video help link to point to YouTube video of how to install FrostWire on Mac.
- Fixes Windows Uninstaller issue where it would leave behind a Start Menu entry

FrostWire 4.18.2 is scheduled to be released sometime during August 2009, it will be an update geared towards minimizing the amount of spam and fake search results, so stay tuned.

Remember to download only from the official website www.frostwire.com. FrostWire is absolutely free - don't allow anybody to scam you into paying for it.

Frostwire has been working fine up until a couple days ago. My torrents arent loading anymore, it just stays at "Locating Sources" is there something i can do to fix this? I guess something else that could be affecting it is i just got Norton on my computer. Could that be whats wrong? IF so, what should i do from here?
  • Amy
Did you replace your previous file? If so it completely converted the music you had, deleted it, then put in a new blank folder to replace it. I had that problem, but only with the downloaded songs, not my i tunes.

Hi I downloaded FrostWire 4.18.1 on my PC. Seemed to have no problems downloading but replaced my old Frostwire folder which had hundreds of songs with a new Frostwire folder with none. I searched via windows search and itunes and they cannot be found, they are gone. Have never had this problem before. Any way to get these back?

First please redownload the FrostWire installer from here
    http://dl.frostwire.com/frostwire/4.18.1/frostw...

    You have a corrupted installation.

Then please take a peek at

    c:\Users\<username>\Documents\FrostWire\Saved

(Change </username><username> for your username on that path)

it's probably that all your music is still there but your new FrostWire doesn't know it, you need to add this folder (or wherever you had your music)

The only way you could've lost all your files
If you had FrostWire saving your music by default to c:\Program Files\FrostWire, then FrostWire deleted everything, since the installer needs to delete the old frostwire in order to install the new frostwire.</username>

i have a similar problem. i didnt lose my library or anything but my frostwire started saving my files to c:\program files\frostwire, i can't put these files onto my ipod or itunes, and it doesnt show up in the rest of my saved files. it says their location is unknown

Please download the installer again, looks like you didn't have Java installed on your computer and FrostWire didn't unpack the libraries correctly.

We fixed this issue last night, go here to download the fixed installer:

    frostwire-4.18.1.windows.exe

This new installer will make sure you have a correct Java Runtime enviroment installed, and then it'll try to unpack the FrostWire libraries.

Okay I have gone through and will been naming each file/pack that I think is creating a problem, and that is popping errors.

    foxtrot.pack

This is the only pack that gave me a problem my second time downloading the program. But the first time there were aprox 20 to 50 error reports from pack that were messed up or something.

    Hope this is helpfull

    STARTUP ERROR!
  • Gage
I had been ignoring the update window that had been popping up for the past few weeks and was starting to get annoyed so i said what the hell ill just download well i downloaded the new version and it doesn't work. When initially downloading the program errors continuously pop up saying that the files arent complete or something. I continued through hitting ignore well i complete the start up wizard and open "FROSTWIRE 4.18" (POS) and it says that certain file wer either corrupt or did not properly download or that they are "incomplete" idfk. Also pretty dissapionted that i just lost almost 482 GB of music because of this effin problem. What do I do to fix this or at least get it working
  • kademlia
If I understand correctly, you can't see the files you've downloaded in your FrostWire library. If that's the case, don't worry -  FrostWire will never delete your files or change their location without your knowledge.

For some reason FrostWire probably just lost the path to your Library folder and the only thing you need to do is reconnect it. That usually happens if you are saving your files in the FrostWire application folder and not a separate one for content.

If you remember where your files were being saved on your computer, then just go to Tools -> Options -> Sharing and add those folders to the list. All the files you are sharing will show up in your Library.

If you don't remember where you've been saving your files, the only thing you can really do is to search your hard drive for the file names or the file formats you remember you downloaded. If you had a large library, it should not be difficult to pinpoint the location.
After you figure out where on your hard drive the files are being stored, add them to your Library just like above.

    Hope that helps,
  • Sandy
I agree with "Mike", the player doesn't work, and it also doesn't load the downloads from your previous library.
  • matt
