Shindig 001 is a 6 track collection from UK based indie netlabel, Shindig Records. This cool 6 track mini album runs for a little over 20 minutes and showcases the label’s artists. Established just over a year ago, the label launched their roster on April 30th 2009. Their current  lineup includes WeRunRiot, Neil Ward, and the Shakinouts.

As expected, most of the tracks from this record revolve around indie Brit rock. Typical of the Kaiser Chiefs and even a touch of the Arctic Monkeys with acoustic pop influences.

It’s definitely easy listening music that borders on indie new wave. Something that you’d want to check out if you’re planning to go ahead and celebrate a cool Saturday night hosting a cool little shindig at your place. This collection opens up with Planning Our Escape from the Shakinouts. Although I’m gonna dare say this is a bit typical, I do like it. The cool upbeat vibe and that little hint of chimes make it a really catchy track. It’s just feel good music that you can spend with on a great afternoon. This track is then followed by CCCS by WeRunRiot. This group is an indie alternative band from Leeds. It’s one of my favorite tracks in the album, both melodically and lyrically. The song itself is quite catchy and after a few playbacks, it just sticks like crazy glue.

Meanwhile, Neil Ward adds a touch of softness with his acoustic pop rock tracks. His beautiful soft vocals and cockney accent is endearing in Plaything and Heading South. Both cuts are infused with a melodic and catchy pop rock feel. Finally, Dead Lonely is a slightly uptempo track with a catchy hook and easygoing rhythm.

According to the label, they “only focus on online distribution with our bands and our aim is to bring back the beauty and quality of live music.”
