Summer Demos is a fun filled collection of four tracks that serve as a little introduction to the forthcoming, and third in line, full length record from The Novel Ideas. The band, which hails from the not-so-distant suburbs of Newton, MA, play what is often described as a “rock-folk-romantic-pop” music full of gorgeous acoustic guitar and enchanting vocals. And with the songs talking about “books, girls, summertime, and the ambiguous hours between night and morning”, this short yet sweet EP will certainly brighten up your day.

The Novel Ideas came to life thanks to Daniel Radin, who at the time simply wanted to sing in a band with a girl. However, as the musical repertoire expanded, the number of bandmates quickly grew to the lovely six and now include Daniel Radin, Alex Caplow, Will Radin, Danny Hoshino, Jeannie Yoon, and Tim Cronin.

The EP starts off with On Fire, a track filled with repeating rhythms of acoustic guitar that slowly see a more lively additions as the song progresses it’s lyrical journey. And right after the first track ends another little musical delight begins; Artichoke Heart, one of my definite favorites, is full of energetic play, sweet percussion, and Alex Caplow’s lovely vocals ready to satisfy any indie pop lover. Needless to say all four of the tracks bring something fresh to the table, so be sure to give them a nice listen.

Summer Demos was released in February of this year as a preview of a future full length album; currently a work in progress. So enjoy this little free treat available for download through the band’s Bandcamp page while awaiting the next big thing.
