Released in February of this year Fakes EP takes us on a journey through computer generated sounds, upbeat multi-layered harmonies, and great vocals adding the needed extra flavor to this lovely pop-electronica treat from the band.

Bangs is a Wisconsin-born, but currently living it up in London, duo who has been together ever since their freshman year at college. The boys have been making music for a while now and have offered their latest EP as a free download to all of their fans.

There is not a lot of information about the band (made of Anders Link and Ben Nadler) out there. In fact their online pages stand pretty empty and don’t give us any clues as to any upcoming shows or new releases. And even though the recent years saw a great number of bands performing under the electornica-pop label, I thought that adding one more duo to this long list of upbeat melodies simply won’t hurt.

Fakes begins with what quickly became two of my favorite tracks. Catacombs, the first on the list, swiftly moves away from it’s light dreamy beginning melody into a full blown, filled with powerful drums song, that will certainly make you start tapping your fingers and moving your feet just about anywhere you are. Slow on the other hand, as the title suggests, is a more cheerful yet calmer track full of the computer generated synths and some intertwined with the wonderful vocal melodies – choruses.

Need more? If you do than be sure to check out Colonialism, singled out by many of the blogs out there as one of the most stand out tracks on Fakes. The cut may have a bit of an unusual beginning, yet it’s electronically generated harmonies combined with piercing percussion and a fountain of deep synths make up for it in no time.

Although the band can be easily compared to a big number of electronica pop bands out there and does not bring any fresh take on a genre to the table when it comes to original beats and harmonies, having six consistently good songs in one album makes the band stand out just a tad more. Now add the fact that the album comes to you entirely as a free download and you get yourself a very nice treat that I hope will put the boys high on your playlist.
