NameChanger for Mac is a free program that makes it easy to rename multiple files, a chore that usually takes forever to do. This application is developed by MRR Software, and it is very easy to use. The latest version has support for Regular Expressions, as well as the ability to sort via the EXF date.

NameChanger is very easy to set up, and using it is a no-brainer. Just drag the files to the app or on the interface. You will see the files’ original file names clearly, while the commands and options for changing the names are also clearly laid out. Among the options in the application are Replace All Occurrences, Replace Last or First Occurrence, Regular Expression and Character Removal.

NameChanger also has the following options: Sequence, Date, Wildcard, Prepend and Append. The nice thing about this program is that as you start changing names, the new filenames will show up in the column labeled “Renamed Filename”, allowing you to get a good look at the name as compared to the old one.

The rows update in real time so you see clearly what is happening. After you click the Rename button, all the files that you edited will be shown, and any files that for any reason could be modified will be displayed as well. That’s pretty much all you need to do.

NameChanger for Mac does only one thing, and that is change names. But it does the job well. Changing file names is something that you likely often do, so this is definitely worth at least a try.
