Miranda IM is a free instant messaging client for Windows, and while it doesn’t have the fancy features of other IM clients, it’s very functional and provides basic but solid features. Most important, however, is that it’s free and easy to use. With this software you can easily add accounts from your other IM clients, and that’s only for starters.
When you add those IM accounts to IM Miranda, you will end up with the same status messages and icons for each, which makes it very easy to go through the messages you receive. What’s even better is Miranda allows you to manage and edit the personal information for each account from a single control panel, a very convenient feature.
The interface is kind of plain, which is good actually because there are no distractions: once you launch the program you can just type away. It doesn’t have a lot of formatting options, but the application does allow you to customize the IM windows and how to chat.
One of the best features on Miranda is it allows you to have messages from a particular user appear in just one spot of the screen so it’s easy to see. If you like to keep your hands on the keyboard, you can create keyboard shortcuts for some of the messaging and chat functions.
Bottom line: Miranda IM isn’t the fanciest instant messaging client available, but as far as functionality goes it delivers, and that’s really all you can ask for, and it’s free.
