Que són los Cuentos de Recuperación?
Si me preguntan de que se tratan estos cuentos, creo que lo mejor es compartir una anécdota sobre uno de los cuentos incluidos en esta edición Creative Commons "Ella La Nenita".

Cuando escuché por primera vez el cuento, me pareció tan poderosa la historia y la forma en que fue contada, que llamé a mi esposa a la habitación. Mi esposa no habla español, así que tuve que traducirle en vivo a medida que escuchábamos el cuento. A unos dos tercios de la historia, a medida que voy traduciendo, se me van erizando los pelos al ver como se le salían las lagrimas a mi mujer que de algún modo se sintió identificada con esta historia de madre e hija (ahora que ella es madre).

En mi vida, había visto a una persona llorar leyendo un libro, menos aun yo contandole una historia.

Tengo la suerte de conocer a Sonia en persona. Su historia de recuperación es asombrosa, pero lo dejo a tu curiosidad averiguarla. Solo te puedo decir que tanto ella como su familia son lo que yo llamaría “Cuenta Cuentos” natos. Pasé gran parte de mi niñez y adolescencia visitando su casa y Sonia siempre ha sido para mi no solo como una hermana mayor, sino una fuente de inspiración enorme, una persona a la cual pedir consejos, y una persona que de cierto modo he tenido como rol en mi vida. Sonia es una profesional de medios de telecomunicación quien se desempeño hace unos años atrás como creativa en HBO y quien fue galardonada internacionalmente por sus logros profesionales. Después de haber logrado sus sueños profesionales se dió cuenta de ese don natural de confortar y aconsejar a otros y se convirtió igualmente en una exitosa Life Coach y Reverenda Multi-Fe en los Estados Unidos.

Spring Cleaning is Mike Schpitz latest project, a 19 song compilation of his favorite best songs and one on which Mike and the FrostClick Team have been working together for the past month to bring to you today.

We hope you enjoy it and share it with all your friends, this is truly good hip-hop and we feel very proud to be the ones to to have the opportunity to share with you this exclusive release from Mike Schpitz (aka LoveJones).

In this opportunity we are lucky enough to have a letter from Mike himself to let you know more in detail the background and behind the scenes of Spring Cleaning.

A Letter from Mike Schpitz to all Listeners

I know when albums or mixtapes are released, people often like to hear the backstory or see behind the scenes footage or hear about the “making of” so, I wanted to let people hear a little bit more about Spring Cleaning straight from the horse’s mouth. I have been talking with Frostwire/Frostclick since the release of Sunday Drive in 2009, about doing another project. They approached me about doing a project that would sort of catch people up to speed. Basically a “what has Mike Schpitz aka LoveJones been up too since Sunday Drive.” I had the idea of calling the project, Spring Cleaning so people could see where I’ve been, what I’ve done, hear the progression and change and get ready for the new music that I’ve got coming out. So, I took some of my favorite songs from each of my previous projects and a few songs from two of my new projects and created a “history of” Mike Schpitz.

Sunday Drive was released on Frostwire/Frostclick back in 2009. Since, I have released four additional projects that include Love Potion Number 9th: The Hangover, Mike Murder, Stanley Ipkiss: Year of the Nice Guy and The Prize Package Volume 1. I am also working on three other albums that are pretty much done, that include Sunday Skool with Pete Sayke, Have You Seen My Stapler? with SLOT-A and Paid Time Off with Phys Edison. Spring Cleaning features songs from each of these projects except Paid Time Off(It’s Top Secret). For those who may be new to Mike Schpitz, Spring Cleaning will be a great introduction to what I’m all about. It gives a wide range of sounds and content but still encompasses me as an artist. You can definitely hear the change and progression from Love Potion to Mike Murder to Have You Seen My Stapler? Hopefully people will get a brief taste of what each project sounds like then can journey back to those projects and listen to them in their entirety.

Spring Cleaning features a number of artists and producers that I have worked with throughout the last several years. Some songs are mixtape records where I “borrowed” the beat, other songs are originals where I got the chance to sit down with various producers and artists and craft something brand new. First off, 9th Wonder’s name is seen on Spring Cleaning a few times. Those records are from my project, Love Potion Number 9th: The Hangover, which features all beats taken from 9th Wonder. I’m not sure if 9th has heard the project or aware that it even exists but as one of my favorite producers, Love Potion is my tribute to 9th.

Next up is Mike Murder, which is another mixtape that features beats borrowed from various producers. Mike Murder is basically just my chance to show my lyrical abilities. No hooks, no concepts, just bars. I just wanted to show people another side of Mike Schpitz aside from the Sunday Drive and Love Potion records. On Mike Murder I use production from DJ Premier, Rza, Timbaland, The Neptunes and Dr. Dre. It gives people a chance to hear a lot of lyrics, patterns, punchlines, etc.

I followed up Mike Murder with an EP called Stanley Ipkiss: Year of the Nice Guy. Stanley Ipkiss was released exclusively on iTunes and Amazon for purchase. On this project, I linked up with Block Starz Music for the release. This was the first time that I placed a project in someone else’s hands and let them work it. I have three different producers on Stanley Ipkiss, Rob Bates, who did five records, QB and Nascent, who did three and I’m Trumaine, who did one. These three producers are some of the freshest in Chicago and have all been making a name for themselves. Rob Bates was a finalist in Red

Bull’s Big Tune beat battle which aired on BET a few years back. Rob has a lot of respect from industry producers and has worked with a lot of Chicago’s best artists. QB and Nascent, who are a production team, have worked with a lot of industry heavyweights, the biggest being 50 Cent. They produced two records for 50 cent including Strong Enough, which was featured on his album, Before I Self Destruct. They have also worked with Lloyd Banks, Joe Budden and LEP Bogus Boys. These two guys are really making a name for themselves and graciously lent their sound to Stanley Ipkiss. The last producer, I’m Trumaine is a young, hungry guy from Chicago who has been doing beat battles and producing for a lot of different artists in Chicago as well.

My most recent project, The Prize Package Volume 1 is a compilation of songs that were not featured on any of my other projects. These are records where I was featured on other artist’s albums and mixtapes, songs I did for various mixtapes and some other unreleased stuff. Regardless of what project I am focusing on at the time, I am constantly writing and record other stuff that may not make it on my projects. I don’t have many features on my other projects so, The Prize Package just shows all the “other” work that I have done over the years. It features artists like Pete Sayke, Adullessence, Papi Jamon, Ill Legit, Dre Dai and House On Mars. It also features production from THX, SLOT-A, Maja 7th, Ill Brown, Parker, LONEgevity and others. The Prize Package is a dedication to my hometown and the legendary burger joint, Harold’s Prize Package.

The other two projects that I took songs from for Spring Cleaning are Sunday Skool and Have You Seen My Stapler? Sunday Skool will be my next release and is an album that I made with fellow emcee, Pete Sayke. Pete Sayke and I got together back in October of 2010 to make some music. We had some producers send us some beats and all of a sudden we had made four or five records. We decided we should keep the creative process going and make an album. We formed a group called Grumpy Old Men and created Sunday Skool. Sunday Skool features production from some of Chicago’s best producers. Guys like SLOT-A, Maja 7th, Ill Brown, Wes P, Rob Bates, LONEgevity and more all gave us beats and the album turned out crazy. We are in the process of mixing that record down and planning on releasing it around when school starts in the fall.

Have You Seen My Stapler? is an album that I have been working on for over two years with producer SLOT-A. We have worked closely together for a long time creating this project. It has changed names, added and subtracted other producers but ultimately we decided that we wanted it to just be us two. We have recorded over 25 records for this album and should be done soon.

For Spring Cleaning, I tried to choose my favorite songs as well as the songs that best represented each of those projects so, listeners could really get a taste of what each one sounds like. Each project shows a different side of me and my sound but hopefully makes sense when heard all together. The artwork for this project was done by my guy, Heath O’Campo, who has been responsible for most of my other stuff including Sunday Drive, Mike Murder and The Prize Package Volume 1. I hope everyone enjoys the music and finds themselves wanting to hear all the projects that I have done. Stay tuned for a lot more music.

Synopsis
Notorious gunman Clayton Young is given a last minute pardon from death row, only to be sent on an assassination mission for the ruthless Governor Lafort. The target: Matthew Saberneck, a living legend of a mercenary. Saberneck didn't only disobey the gruelling orders of his former employer — he also freed one of his female slaves and married her. Now Clayton is supposed to make friends with that ageing gunslinger, in order to intrude his fortified ranch and strike when the opportunity arises. But the Governor's scheme didn't take into account the code of honour of those gunfighters — even less, it accounted for the ravishing attractivity of Naina, the newlywed Mrs. Saberneck. So in a flash, a love triangle is created — of the sort that concentrates on the exchange of bullets instead of niceties.

Snowblind was created by Mangofilm, a posse of German movie enthusiasts who were united by their strong love for 70s and 80s grindhouse cinema. With the daring concept of "cowboys with motorbikes" we were able to draw a lot of professionals to both sides of the camera. A cast of fresh talents from the US, the UK, Australia, Ireland and even South Africa make the film truly international.

About
Snowblind was produced entirely on private money, and used the help of the online community "wreckamovie.com", which was funded by the makers of internet phenomenon "Star Wreck". After 18 months of hard work, Snowblind had it's world premiere on the 20st Emden International Film Festival on the 7th of June 2010. Since then, the film has toured several countries, winning "Best International Picture" at Belfast's Yellow Fever International Film Festival.

Realisation
SNOWBLIND was shot entirely against green acreen — using the so-called "backlot" technique. Only through that method was is possible to bring our story's epic landscapes needs to the big screen on a low budget. In the impressive visualisation, realistic environmental factors such as snow, ice and fog clash with stylising elements like backlit silhouettes, slow motion effects and graphical elements straight from the pages of manga books. Maintaining typical features of the western genre at the same time creates a unique kind of visual irony, thus compensating the budgetary constraints with a lot of freshness and charme.

Black EL & Durkin are artists that know the power of the internet and P2P as empowering promotional tools for musicians, they were glad to grant us an interview for the FrostClick readers.

What's changed on from a Major Minority to Color Commentary?
Black EL: A lot has changed. I've grown a lot more as a MC, and I’ve become a lot more confident in my songwriting ability as well as just being more comfortable with myself as a artist. I feel that I finally have a style which I can call my own. Not to mention Color Commentary is completely produced by Durkin which gives the album a more uniform feel and allows the album to flow much more like an actual album than A Major Minority.

Durkin: I also feel like I finally found my own sound on this album. This time was all about the HUGE drums, interesting sample chops and heavy bass. I’m proud of the work I did on A Major Minority (“It’s All Relative,” “Stickup Kid”), but I was psyched to take the reins on the production of an entire project. EL and I really approached this as a fully collaborative effort and avoided the typically detached rapper-producer dynamic.

How was the process of creating the music video?
Black EL: We reached out to the best in the city, Beyond Measure Productions, for the video. The moment I talked to the director, Noah Christofer, I knew the video would be something special. The premise of "100 Miles" is how much driving I do in and around the city of Boston. We shot it in June, all around Boston in one weekend. We didn't want to do just the well known spots, so we went to South Street Diner, which is a famous late night diner in South Boston, as well as AWOL, a high end street wear shop in Allston.
Noah had an idea about doing a mirrored day/night shot which I thought sounded interesting, but I didn't know how it was going to look until he actually finished it. Truthfully, Noah and I talked about what we were going to do, but I took a step back and just let him do his thing. As one artist to another I know how it can be when people want to control what you do too much, so I trusted in him and his vision.

Durkin: EL and I were both pretty unfamiliar with the whole video shoot process, so it was great to work with a group of people who knew exactly what they were doing. It was easy to trust the whole Beyond Measure crew. At the end of shooting, we knew we had a dope video on our hands as well as a new group of friends who were trying to make a name for themselves in Boston.

Can we expect more music videos for other songs in Color Commentary?
Black EL: We actually have one more shorter video off of CC, that we will be dropping in a few weeks.

Durkin: That video is my acting debut. Watch out for my killer poses and facial expressions.

Your Twitter account says you've become a life coach, how did that come to be?
Black EL: For a while I've always been the guy that a lot of my friends come to for advice. Even though I'm far from perfect myself, I'd like to think of myself as someone who can make sense of any given situation. Most of us get confused when we're in a difficult situation, but when you have someone on the outside looking in it always helps. I have my own life coaches though. I got my pops and my brother.

How long did it take to make this album?
Black EL: Really it took about a year, off and on. Most of the time was spent experimenting with new beats with Durkin and I going back and forth via email.

Durkin: As I said before, it was highly collaborative. I wasn’t just sending EL a finished beat and washing my hands of the whole thing. We were actively trying to find a sound that we could both identify with, and that took time. It was a fun year though. We started songs with anything from a nearly completed track to a simple drum beat or raw sample. Lots of emailing drafts back and forth. Lots of late nights in my makeshift studio. Now that we put in work finding this sound and perfecting our workflow, I expect new music to come out a lot quicker!

What advice do you have for any young rappers/producers out there?
Black EL: Be yourself number one, and number two, take everything in steps. The most important thing is your music, and before you rock the shows and have the release parties you need to make sure your focusing everyday on your craft. Also, don't just be a rapper, be a businessman, be a graphic designer, be a producer, be a engineer, my advice now is do as much as you can yourself.
Durkin: First of all, it’s not about having the most expensive gear. I made this entire album using outdated software on a PC laptop. I didn’t even own monitors. Know the gear that you have well, and focus on good songwriting. Also, learn what happens after the beat is made. Learn how to communicate with your MC, vocalist, and engineer about how you want to the final product to sound. Take ownership of the final product. Don’t just send beats off to people and lose control of your song. Too many people want to just sell beats one at a time to strangers; that gets you nowhere. Find people that you work well with and that you trust, and build something!

Through actions of tactical media, The Yes Men primarily raise awareness about problematic social issues; most frequently, attention is brought to situations in which a person or group benefits from the detriment of others.

In their films, they practice a concept they have coined as "identity correction", in which they impersonate entities that they dislike. The Yes Men operate under the mission statement of telling the truth and exposing lies. From their offices in Milwaukee, they create and maintain fake websites similar to ones they intend to spoof, which have successfully lead to numerous interview, conference, and TV talk show invitations.

They express the idea that corporations and governmental organizations often act in dehumanizing ways toward the public. Elaborate props are sometimes part of the ruse (e.g. Survivaball), as shown in their 2003 DVD release The Yes Men. The Yes Men have collaborated with other groups of similar interest, including Improv Everywhere and Steve Lambert.

What they discover is a forgotten relic of the old Soviet space program, whose return to Earth will have implications for the entire world.

Bernhard and Smith's previous collaboration, The Lionshare, found a large and receptive audience online. Building on that success, this pilot was shot for just $6000, raised through the micro-lending platform Kickstarter. Bernhard and Smith are hoping the response to the pilot will interest backers and audience members in funding the rest of the season.
