Another great release from the Error!Lo-Fi Records (Spain). Pequeña Fiera! is a band that explores the border between lo-fi and experimental/art rock (vide Radiohead, Sigur Ros, etc.).

What we got on Secrets with no words are 5 very dreamy and hazy tunes that take us somewhere very much behind the rainbow. If the band thought about the compositions a little bit thoroughly than it would definitely be a minor underground hit-band.

It is still above average, because Pequeña Fiera! is not afraid to try something new (ok, we’ve heard this dream pop/post rock thing before, but still it’s not that everyone plays that way). My favorite track here is do re mi fa sol I kiss you, very chilled-out track with slow, mellow vocals and slacky/lazy melody strolling through out. Generally, it is a band and an album to recommend, and I would gladly check out what more  they have in stock.

Secrets with not words is the continuation of previous masterpiece ” Not words EP” by Pequeña FIera. 5 songs in the same line that the previous one. Experimental and magical. Every second you listen is a little dream. The perfect connection with the different musical “toys”, and his voice fly with other sounds as a instrument. This EP together with the previous one, they will be edited in CD version under the name of “Singin with not words” (Error! Lo-Fi Recordings 2007).

This is the first of the records from Error!Lo-Fi Recording, a very interesting net-label I would like to recommend here.

Lagrima plays interesting and engaging instrumental lo-fi and although there is a certain that-composition-is-so-similar and I-have-heard-it-before syndromes, it's still a recommendable release.

Because of the first thing mentioned above, I won't say which track on the Trayecto Imperfecto de un Viaje Inacabado is the best, and because of the second syndrome, I won't say which bands too much influenced this project .

This is the first EP of the other Xavi (Frägil) project. Very experimental, instrumental and ambient sounds mades only with a guitars. Calm. Like texas is the reason, Tristeza, Gregor Samsa, Explosions in the Sky, Mono and those of slowcore bands.

I’ve got to tell you - that thing ain’t no blues. Maybe I’m wrong, but I’ve got an impression that death metal bands avoid Creative Commons and focus more on the good old underground zine-net and gigs ways of promoting their music... Two thumbs up for Mental Killing Spree for bravery and offering their first album as a free download and under CC!



About the music. There is a quite engaging mixture of a harder side of thrash and a lighter side of death metal here. Riffs aren’t extremely melodic - it’s not Metallica, and no Amon Amarth either - but they’re melodic enough to keep a listener interested.

Even the longest composition on the record, Odd Pathos, avoids monotony though it is nearly eight minutes. Nevertheless, my favorite track here is twice shorter but as much engaging. It's Desentized - a tune that reminds me of Suffocation or the early Slayer. All the other tracks are definitely worth checking out as well, so don’t hesitate! Become a Mental Killing Spree victim!

My only annotation is about the length of the album. It should at least two tracks longer! However, as it is Mental Killing Spree first release, I forgive and hope that the next one is much more packed.

First of all, congratulations to Arthur Caravan. Never had I found a more complicated record title! Ok, it fits into code-and-numbers mood intelligent dance music composers adore, but try to tell a friend: ‘Have you heard Cravan’s latest 222777444777782555 555444?’ I challenge you... just try...



About the music now.

Well... When the LP was published on Jamendo, the author confessed that the tunes come from his Aphex Twin’s influence period. I don’t think the explanation is very necessary, because you can sense it from the very beginning of the record.

The music is not 100 % a brand new original thing, but I simply appreciate this genre of music too much to make a fuss about it. The tracks are very sensibly composed, not too long (which happens quite often with an average IDM piece and it’s unbearable for me) and not too experimental (ditto).

As Thom Yorke would claim: Everything in its right place. On the one hand there is no doubt Cravan interest dwells in the regions of sophisticated electronica, but the production is so ambient-based and full of interesting melodies that one can both relax and explore while tuning into it.

I won’t say which composition suits me the most, because they overlap and complete each other, but I would definitely recommend 22255528834442 and 7777833 3332664442 the most.

In a nutshell. It’s a highly recommendable release full of spacial, engaging sounds, home-made but thorough production and enjoyable atmosphere.

Vate, a Mexican electro-music artist, is one certainly to be recommended. From the very beginning of Volt, his latest record, one finds that it is a release that cannot be neglected. There are some Kraftwerk influences there, and Turismo, the first tune of the LP, is a Tour de France for the modern era, when car rallies replaces bicycle ones. Orient Stress follows, and it's been the most energetic one composed by Vate, almost an EBM piece with a highly recommendable mixture of industrial samples and electro mood.

Mundo Libre stays in the same mode, both in terms of rhythm as well as sample themes. Hertz has a great, radioactive mood, reminding me of electro-father’s Radioactivity.

Info recollects previous Vate’s compositions Aeronautica..., a musical impressions on the topic of people communicating with each other. Watt’s rhythm section is extremely mechanical with only one sparse keyboard melody, but it’s still hypnotically intruding and engaging. Amper is quite the opposite, very ambiental and etheric. The eponymous tune is quite Autechre-like in its beat and composition, a neat piece with but for one little annoying sample sound. Yo soy maquina is yet another obvious Kraftwerk-tribute (translate the title into English), but the track itself has a contemporary, even experimental twist.

Summarizing, Vate created another extremely interesting concept album, with a leitmotiv of electricity. In my humble opinion this one of the most engaging CC LP’s of the last year, with all of its elements professionally thought-over and skillfully conducted, beginning form the cover and ending with sound production. However, the most important thing is this DIY essence you can feel in compositions. It's ten out of ten, and I suppose it's been Vate's Opus Magnum, as for now of course.
