Eighteen year-old producer, Phil Fox, has compiled some of his best works and put together this cool electronic ambient compilation just for you. Filled with 8 tracks that flourish in hip hop electronic beats as well as quiet sounds, the album features great flowing cuts that imbibe a smooth and relaxing atmosphere.

Although there’s not much about him out there; on his short profile bio on SoundCloud he states that his “setup consists of Reason, my Axiom 49 controller, 2 M-Audio BX5 sound monitors, and hopefully soon, Ableton Live.” He adds that he likes creating “instrumentals, from Underground Hip-Hop, Trap, Electronic, mellow cloud-type music, and a bunch of songs I make as a joke.”

Even though he might make some of these as a joke, there’s no doubt it involves some great skill on his part. Starting off with Seabears, the track is filled with a relaxing ambient mix completed by weird twinkling sounds. Both of these coalesce to form the 1 minute opener.

Dat T-Hal Flow, follows next and it integrates a bit more hip hop into the electronic ensemble. FNKADLC continues the hip hop and retro sound while Aquarium and Mondegreen blend in a bit of trip-hop and slow vibes into the compilation. The rest of the tracks add their own flavor to the record, expanding it and adding a rich diversity. Midstreams end with Haunted House, a rather quiet single filled with piano work and deep, ominous vibe.

Overall, the album is pretty good. Each track is different and peels back the curtains on what this young producer/DJ can do. Take a listen, you might like this one.

Age is no excuse not to make a great record, just ask Howl. This little electro, ambient project is helmed by 18 year old Josh Banham aka Howl. This isn’t his first piece either as he’s been releasing several mini compilations for awhile.

Recorded between October 2011 and July 2012, Happy Valley is a collection of tracks “about dreams and songs about love and songs about dying,” according to the artist.

This is actually his first non-digital release. Each piece of the physical CD is handprinted, although listeners can also grab the digital record at a name-your-price option.

Trippy and melodramatic, are two words you might find yourself describing this record. Filled with 10 cuts that range from 1-4 minutes, the compilation provides a beautiful escape. Named after a race track in Hong Kong, Happy Valley is an important place for Howl since according to him, this was the place where most of the cuts here were “dreamt up.”

Although the album begins with HV, which serves as more of a prolonged intro rather than a track by itself, the cut runs close to 2 minutes and serves as a doorway into the complex and cool world inside.

Forests, begin the compilation proper with a single haunted by trip hop beats and melancholic vocals. It’s a slow and slightly cerebral cut. Meanwhile, Falling, is a hardcore mix of sounds. Elements of electronica, dance and ambient atmosphere are present in this somewhat dark and gritty track.

All of the songs on here were written and performed by Howl with the exception of The Himalayas, which sounds like a celebratory track coupled with 80s British synth pop vocals.

To sum up, this is an unexpectedly likable record. Despite being very low-key in certain instances, you’ll find that the songs have that special touch that makes you want to listen to what the singer has to say or in most cases, want to communicate through ticks, beats and rhythms. This is a worthy download if you ask me. Check it out for yourself.

Continuing on with their tradition of releasing one compilation per month, the Birdview crew is at it again with their June release.

June EP is a huge set consisting of 22 tracks, mixed and done by some of the best underground producers all over the world. They each contribute to create and release a free album for fans of underground, experimental, techno, dub and hip hop to name a few.

This June compilation features the same fresh and innovative sound; something you would expect from talented producers and mixers.

Expect a mix of tastes to mingle in this great compilation. There are strictly dancefloor made tunes on here while at the same time, you’ll find tracks that are more suited for a quiet retreat to your rest house.

If you’re the type who prefers to pick out individual tracks in compilation records, rest assured, you’ll find a lot of great ones to add on your playlist from this album.

Infectious from Rootkit, is set up as a staple on the dancefloor. The young producer (only 14) hails from Norway and is a new addition to the Birdview crew. Maximoe’s Yester and To, provide a smooth hip hop feel that’s perfect for laid-back listening. On the other hand, Far From Me from Aether is another cool cut to bookmark while chilling out.

The Birdview project was initially started in February 2012 by producers/musicians, Rylee Rabbit, Forrest Blunt and Ryddim. So far, they’ve stuck to the plan of creating a free downloadable release each month. June E.P., is a great compilation that you should grab. You can also check out their more recent releases on their BandCamp page.

Aiming to capture those fleeting moments and translate them into a gorgeous mix of beats, synths and rhythm; Journal manages to create a rich landscape of sound that listeners can easily get lost in.

The man behind Shipwrek is Jason Siegler. His fascination with capturing his day to day existence into sound initially started as a simple project but quickly evolved into a complex set of recordings that throb and pulse with energy as well as life.

Journal is one of those albums you’d want to put on if you need a break from repetitive pop music or loud songs. Made up of laid-back, contemplative beats; it’s easy to mind map your way through things with this compilation on.

As mentioned, the songs on the album serve as a day to day recording of the artists’ life translated into beats, synths, samples and other quirky/soothing sounds. Starting off this album is Speakeasy, a concoction of trip hop beats and a slight gamer almost “curious” vibe throughout the track. One thing you’ll notice as the cuts take one turn after another, is that each one has its own little atmosphere and personality.

In Chasing Circles, you have that reflective mood playing off as the piano swirls and electronic beats fly around before eventually forming into a cohesive unit. Other cuts to check out include For the Days You Don’t Feel It and Barefeeted.

Overall, the entire record flows with emotion. Each instrument and sound used has a purpose; making it a charming album that could easily become the soundtrack to your day to day life as well. Take a listen and enjoy.

And the Giraffe‘s third album is an ambient folk treasure. ln Creature Collector, Nick Roberts and Josh Morris serenades us with six tracks of superfluous dream folk.

Hailing from Gainesville, Florida, And the Giraffe started when the best friends/musical duo met in a college orientation meeting and decided to jam together. After few local gigs, Josh moved to Nashville but still collaborated with Nick online. When he returned during the summer of 2011, the two were already set to record the band’s first EP.

Released last year, the album takes on the same sonic aesthetic as their previous release entitled Something for Someone. The beat drops in Find My Name in the Sun which blends seamless acoustic strings and spacey electronic sounds. I love how the song slowly builds and escalates into a stronger ending infused with heavy electric guitars.

The band showcases their ambient acoustic prowess in Of the Moment as they experiment with steady foot-stomping melodies, reverberating electro tunes, and layered vocals. Low, rapid drum beats stirs off a raw, dark energy within the song.

Enough is Enough closes up the album in a soothing piano and string ensemble. Press play, close your eyes, and let layers over layers of jazzy arrangement transport you to a nostalgic journey.

Seldom do you encounter a band that balances consistency and originality, but And the Giraffe delivers more than that. In Creature Collector, the listeners are treated to a heavy dose of psychedelic ambient high.

Track list:
1. Find My Name in the Sun
2. Of the Moment
3. Sorry
4. The Silent
5. Take Care
6. Enough is Enough

Mars Water‘s foliow-up album to its July release is a curious thing.

The band started as a monthly song writing project of Ponny Kosmas in 2011, which later evolved into a full-pledged band under the name Mars Water—a combination of Kosmas’ interest and fear in both astronomy and the ocean.

Packed with a hefty set of 11 songs, Mars, Je T’aime is a concept album about a long distance love between a woman in France and a man in Mars. The songs in the album are letters between the lovers.

Spacey vocals and acoustic strings set the overall mood in Wait For Me. While Somewhere Nice follows with an upbeat, summer vibe. The sudden shift between these two songs paints a stark contrast between the distance of the two characters.

When I Saw You is a love child of the first two tracks as it perfectly combines the ambient sound of the first track and sunshine charm of the latter.

Tracks such as Penser à Toi, Philippe, and Attente features the effortlessly soothing vocals of Eva Kosmas. The arrangement of each tracks bursts with French appeal that will easily transport the listeners to the place.

Getting Married and The Wind concludes a happy ending for the distant lovers as they finally walk down the aisle.

In Mars, Je T’aime, Mars Water has succeeded in transforming a love story into exquisite pieces of music that are easily digestible.

For dreamy soundscapes to perk up your mood, Sparks EP is a treasure trove. The man behind the sound is Ann Arbor, Michigan native, Jeremy Malvin or better known as Chrome Sparks.

This young producer is just starting out but he’s already making waves. Sparks EP is his latest effort and comes with 6 electro/dance tracks brandishing the producer’s skill to make any sound smooth and lush.

His first single Marijuana is far from a drug-infused weed track but actually a cut with beautiful samples, beats and just overall awesome sound. That’s something quite rare to find in today’s slew of beat producers.

Starting with Your Planet, Chrome Sparks easily wins you over to his fold. Even if you’re a novice and think that electronic music is the same old thing over and over again, the artist proves you wrong. Sure, there’s the repetitive nature of the sound but Chrome Sparks succeeds where many have failed; that’s creating electronic music and making it NOT boring.

Dig a little bit into the record and you’ll find that it’s quite refreshing. After hearing countless electronic compilations, this is probably the only one that doesn’t make me want to switch the music.

Sparks EP is a smooth compilation with surprisingly awesome tracks in it. There’s a good balance between traditional electronic sound and enough experimentation to keep everyone’s attention. Check out the record and if you like it, grab it. It’ll be worth it.

Track list:
1. Your Planet
2. Marijuana
3. Cosmic Claps Of Love
4. Send The Pain On
5. Gates To Heaven
6. Luna Luxor

Looking for satisfying electro-dub music to complete your Saturday night? If yes, then D.Tek’s latest Kumari EP is a great record to grab.

It comes with 10 tracks that range from comfortable trance to hyperactive ambient dub. This is the latest release from the artist and features a host of tracks that harken to the good old days of electronic music.

Initially part of a group, D.Tek went solo by 2011 and has since discovered his own “voice” in music. His tracks are riveting and bold, echoing a beautiful ethnic sound that sometimes gets easily lost in the world of modern bits and bobs.

Kumari EP is a rich record. While combining ethnic sounds with electronic ambient music may not be something new, there’s still a freshness attached to the tracks that make it really worthwhile.

Opening single, Indian Ocean, embraces with its twinkly sounds coupled with a deep bass and weird Sitar-like sound. Meanwhile, title track, Kumari features 5 minutes of straight mid-tempo rhythms laced by vocal mixes and danceable beat.

Shiva and Sunday (D.Tek mix) are more upbeat cuts compared to the others. These two still carry that ethnic vibe but are more infused with dancefloor beats perfect for a Saturday night dance-a-thon.

Kumari EP is available for free download so if you like what you hear make sure to grab this for your playlist as well. Enjoy!

With the amount of electronic musicians out there, it’s hard to find really good quality ones. Luckily, Finding Time by Ten Million Sounds has made everything easier by compiling the best electro/ambient music around.

Finding Time by Ten Million Sounds

Featuring 13 ambient, electronic and downtempo beats; Finding Time serves as the second compilation from Ten Million Sounds and is meant to take listeners through a relaxing stroll. According to their liner notes, it’s curated “for the most peaceful hours of the day, these thirteen tracks will take you from late night into the early morning sunrise, connecting atmospheric beats with a love for our natural environment.”

True to their word, the album is comprised of nothing but the most melodic and relaxing electronic downtempo hip hop to grace your ears. A track from Aether titled Solace, opens up the soothing compilation. Composed of a steady, relaxing beat coupled with the occasional vocal sample; the track liberates and calms the nerves on an edgy day.

Jimmy Whoo’s Star Child adds a bit of funk and soul to the compilation. Combining a nice bassline beat along with smooth jazz and soul touches, it’s one of those tracks you groove along to on a quiet Saturday night. Rob Viktum’s 4/17/1975 is another lovely single that’s definitely worth noting.

Truth be told, this is one of the few electronic compilations that has gotten me very excited. It’s a record composed of cool, chill out ambient tracks that are so relaxing it seeps through your bones. Filled with an equal portion of hip hop and electronica aesthetics, it’s the best of both worlds. The best part is that you can get this at a free/pay-what-you-want-download. All proceeds will be donated to a non-profit organization called Smile Train. The organization helps provide funding for corrective cleft palate surgery for children.

Track list:
1. Aether – Solace
2. Handbook – With You This Far
3. Incise – Night Glow
4. Jimmy Whoo – Starchild
5. Brock Berrigan – Synthaholic
6. Poldoore – Waiting For The World
7. Ohbliv – Badarou
8. Evil Needle – Soft Touch
9. Somepling – ThirdCriminal
10. IV The Polymath – The Recipe
11. Rob Viktum – 4/17/1975
12. Bahwee – Every Time
13. Ta-ku – Fairy Tale

Treat yourself with some soulful hauntingly beautiful tunes in London Bridges‘ self-titled album. Released last September 14, 2012, the album offers 10 tracks that will surely intrigue our ears.

This is not your typical ambient collection as it takes a little bit of everything–from lo-fi to r&b beats–resulting to an intricate medley between spacey chillwave and funky melodies. The genius behind this highly addictive melodies is known by the name London Bridges. We might know little about the producer but one thing’s for sure, his/her craftsmanship and talent will take her a long way in the music industry.

Starting things up is Smoke. As the first beat kicks abruptly through the long ambient tunes, you’ll already know that you’ve hit upon something unique and excellent. The sound is nothing I have ever heard; the lo-fi beats beats seems to be scattered around the track but still plays well as a coherent whole.

Together makes use of Gotye’s hit song Somebody that I Used to Know and distorting it with some electro machine lovin’ and repetitive play-ups. The whispering instrumentation and layered electro melodies gives this track a very sexy flair.

Staying true to its ambient roots, Falling‘s instrumental backbone consists of fluttering keys, spacey atmosphere, and slow tempo added with just a bit of soulful beat to give the track a little spice.

Featuring the up and coming rapper Stockz, Players Ball closes the set with crisp lines placed perfectly in between chill instrumentation.

Track list:
1. Smoke
2. Together
3. My Heart
4. Hold Me Close
5. Shelter (the xx)
6. Falling
7. Let It Die (feist)
8. 4 a.m.
9. I Want It
10. Players Ball (stockz)
