After adjusting to a somewhat stylistically predictable album, which is best described as a jerky and frantic folk/rock hybrid, a zealous melody and original narrative begins to merge.

Powerful instrumentals are aided by forceful lead singer Darrin Bradbury who at times dominates the vocals with a strained shout. Despite, he is paired with Emma McLaughlin who has a soft yet strong voice, something similar to the enticing and hypnotic effect of Adele.

The first track, Eighty Dead Armadillos is an action packed jam with a clever character to it – I dare you to not head bang along with catchy tune. A favorite is Gypsy Song, where a mesmerizing waltz features the soothing vocals of McLaughlin, luring the listener to involuntarily sway with the beat. Still, Gypsy Song is interrupted by a repetitious chorus of screaming vocals “God, I’m so tired,” a transition that is in no way smooth are considerate to the listener! The lyrics are strikingly playful and artful; take for example in Hemmingway Had a Cat: “Hemmingway had a cat, Hemmingway blew off his head. I have a cat, but I still have my head.”

Octopus by Big Wilson River

Track 4, Backyard Passout has an almost romantic narrative, that is until the guitar and bass crescendo into a frantic and passionate finale with more screaming. Perhaps “passionate” is the best way to describe Big Wilson River’s Octopus – it certainly does not lack passion; it’s just a matter of toning down a mix of sometimes severe vocals with a raucous accompaniment. The album is certainly energetic and unique – it offers a new approach to Americana, you might call it a sort of urban folk mythology. Give it a listen!

The Freak Fandango Orchestra is an energetic and quirky bunch of musicians who like to play fun and unusual music.

Their first record Love, Death and a Drunken Monkey was entertaining and came doused with beautiful instrument work and amusing lyrics. For their latest release, Tales of a Dead Fish, they retain their crazy upbeat sound, still incorporating humor, superb instrument work and a very catchy beat to every single one of their cuts.

Mixing gypsy, folk, punk rock and polka, The Freak Fandango Orchestra will definitely capture your attention whether you like it or not.

The record opens with Requiem for a Fish, a jaunty track that has saxophones blaring, occasional chanting and some serious catchy tune. It starts off things nicely with its uptempo sound, making you want to stand up, grab a partner and start dancing for no reason. Almost all of the songs have this same infectious beat. Third track, Balkan Beats, seems a great fit for The Mask to dance along to and do all his stunts. There's a whole layer of instrument work that beautifully merges with the lyrics.

Royalty Free Music - Stock Music Library | Jamendo PRO

Meanwhile, Hitman's Love Song (both the last track and the one featuring Paola) combines distinctive vocals with a nice semi-laid-back beat. It's probably the "slowest" song on the record yet it's something you can imagine Charlie Chaplin still prancing around to.

Tales of a Dead Fish is a great album. It's hard not to fall for the music, whether you're into this kind of sound or not, since it manages to give you that feel-good feeling. Perfect for fans of Gogol Bordello. It's a genuinely fun album to check out.

The album is a first for the singer/songwriter. Armed with an acoustic guitar, a soft and melodic voice along with beautiful lyrics; the album is the perfect capper after a long hard day at work. It also features quite a few guest musicians helping him complete the songs.

The album is a first for the singer/songwriter. Armed with an acoustic guitar, a soft and melodic voice along with beautiful lyrics; the album is the perfect capper after a long hard day at work. It also features quite a few guest musicians helping him complete the songs.

Much of the record is composed of sweet, acoustic classic folk. So expect this album to be your perfect companion on dreary days, when all you want to do is cuddle in the comfort of your bed or maybe stay-in and enjoy a quiet evening.

Dylan Pratt proves that sometimes all you need is a guitar, good lyrics and a voice to create lovely music. Lifters & Leaners takes a stripped down approach to songmaking. Almost all of the tracks exude an acoustic sound with a few actually plugging in and employing electric guitars.

Although the artist impresses with his upbeat indie rock tracks like, Soap Box and Beasties; he excels in his quiet singles best. Fall Awake has that country folk vibe reminiscent of Dan Fogelberg or most 60s/70s classic folk artist. Another track, Peace Will Never Come, is as simple as it can get. Pratt has a knack for accompanying beautiful melodic guitar playing with endearing lyrics. His expressive voice lends sincerity to the words he sings which is quite important for most folk songs like this.

Meanwhile, title track, Lifters & Leaners also exhibit this gorgeous relaxing folk sound. This last song balances with the upbeat opener and leaves listeners with a nice remembrance of the record while at the same time urging them to listen to it again soon.

Dylan Pratt definitely has his niche covered. The album features good recording with snippets of raw, even DIY quality here and there. This just adds to the candor and appeal of the record. It's a compilation worth checking out especially for folk lovers everywhere.

The guy behind this sonic ensemble is Brent Cowles. A pastor's son from Fort Collins, Cowles started writing and creating songs at the age of 14. Thanks to an early start, he developed a beautiful sound that resonates with both quiet and upbeat tempos, mesmerizing vocal work and skillful guitars.

Simplicity and intrigue are both present in his work, something that makes you want to tune out the world and simply tune in to his songs.

There are times when all you need is to listen to the first 20-30 seconds of a song to realize that you have a worthwhile record in front you. Most people who discover You Me and Apollo for the first time often wonder how come they've never heard of him before. His music is one of those things that enchant you upon first encounter. Cowles' sweet and expressive growls and coos are just one part of the equation but it plays a big part on what draws you to him.

From the onset, the appropriately titled Opener, greets you with Cowles soothing vocals. Between the semi-falsettos and soft guitar strumming, he welcomes listeners to Cards with Cheats, convincing them to stay around and listen a bit more. Continuing on with A Pearl, the song is an upbeat country-style indie pop. In certain instances, the artists' voice reminds me of Damien Rice, only more upbeat and less melodramatic. Again, his voice takes center stage but his lyrical capabilities also shine through beautifully.

Although the entire album is really worth a listen, some of my personal favorites include Oh Brother and the Johnny Cash sounding, The Devil Inside. Both songs are acoustic tracks that highlights Cowles sincerity and capacity to communicate his thoughts through his words.

Cards with Cheats is a winner for me. It's an album worth having for anyone who loves acoustic folk with a very distinct rock touch. When listening to Cards with Cheats you'll realize that there are still plenty of wonderful recording gems lurking around and just waiting to be found.

The download is available over at BandCamp for free but you can also choose to buy it and help out the singer by popping over $8 through his label River Jones Music.

The project began back in 2004 when Ilya Polishchuk and Alex Okhrimenko decided to create their own recording studio, complete with instruments and systems that they created themselves. This was a big challenge but they managed to succeed. After taking the plunge, Ilya recorded a couple of original tracks which would eventually lead to Freeky Cleen's debut record, Infertility, back in 2005.

To date, this is the sixth release from the artist. Acoustic Blues Jams is exactly like its title. It's a hodge podge of beautiful blues jam sessions accompanied with Ilya's country style vocals and clean acoustic guitar playing. The album contains 15 tracks including 3 bonus singles.

Royalty free music for professional licensing

Starting with the catchy Married Man Blues, the song laments temptations besetting well...a married man. Featuring great guitar skills and a very laid style, the song is instantly likable even after just one listen. The vocals and backing voice lends itself to the song and definitely add that touch of sincerity to the lyrics. Other tracks like Feelin' Low Down, echo a more rhythm and blues vibe reminiscent of various blues artists who pretty much spearheaded the sound. Elements of hard rock, country, bluegrass and even boogie woogie dominate Freeky Cleen's sound; providing audiences a chance to enjoy this long-forgotten sound especially in today's pop-driven music world.

Overall, the record is a great one to have for those who know how to appreciate acoustic blues. It's a beautiful and relaxing compilation that makes you want to find yourself a bayou somewhere with guitar on hand and singing the afternoon's away. You'll find the record in Jamendo as well as on the band's official website.

There are some albums that take a few listens before you pronounce it as a good or even likable but Bliss is a real charmer. From the first 5 seconds of the Mystic Monkey, you'll know that this is a record that can potentially stay on your daily playlist for awhile. The opening single and title track is an upbeat retro style song that recalls the swingin' 50s. With the sultry yet powerful vocals and the catchy beat, it's hard not to like the song at all.

This bouncy sound shows up once in awhile in the album. Carefully balancing their sound, the band creates several tracks exuding that retro surf rock dance vibe while the other songs showcase a more mellow, sugary pop sound. For instance, tracks like Brainless and Thinner Than Water both shower you with great vocals and an upbeat rockish tempo while songs like Milky Day clearly showcases the band's melodic folk side.

Bliss is definitely a charming compilation that almost anybody can enjoy. It has a little bit of everything to satisfy different types of music lovers out there.

Currently based in Chicago, the multi-talented singer's music is comparable to some of the best acoustic folk pop artists today. His skillful guitar playing as well as charming lyrics beautifully convey a truth that most of us can relate with.

Take for instance, opening track, The River. Laced with a southern guitar vibe, the song is a beautiful countryside pop song that's an ode to a long lost friend. With its simple but catchy melody, it perfectly sets the mood of the album: one of laid back songs, forgotten relationships and happy moments.

Be Free, Burden, Judy and Half of Me are slightly more upbeat compared to the rest of the tracks. On the other hand, songs like Lost Without You, Brilliant, and Beautiful World are more sentimental; something that the artist clearly excels in. His emotional vocals add a heartfelt truth to the lyrics and makes you want to just sit back and take it all in.

Definitely an artist worth listening to, Derek Clegg proves that even if you aren't backed by a big name label (or any label at all,) you can still create wonderful, great quality music as long as you have passion and love for your craft. Grab the download.

The band have been together since 2006 and already released several great EPs.

This Cornwall crew not only records their own songs but is also a 'party band'. Playing cover songs from various artists like Jack Johnson, Sublime and even fellow Canadian, Alanis Morissette, the band is slowly gaining ground in their local hometown. Days & Nights is a 6-track EP filled with some ready-to-listen original songs. The cuts are light and fun to listen to if you simply don't want to think about anything else other than having a good time.

Trench Town Oddities is made up of Sean Harley (lead vocals & guitars), Nick Kalil (bass & vocals), Steve Restinetti (guitars & vocals), Todd Harrington (drums & percussion), and Randy Lalonde (percussion & drums). Since their inception, they've shared the stage with tons of great acts including Sum41, Kim Mitchell, April Wine and Glass Tiger, just to name a few.

Royalty free music for professional licensing

Most of their songs are upbeat. Blending easy listening acoustic pop with folk rock. Track like, Never Let You Fall, is a familiar old ditty you'll most likely hear on your regular radio station. It's a catchy acoustic pop love track that you can leave playing for a while. On the other hand, Working Again, is perhaps one of the more popular tracks the crew have. It features nice and clean vocals along with an easy-to-love beat. The lyrics are simple but sound sincere. The boys step it down a notch in, Road Less Traveled, providing listeners their serious side in this slow and melodic track.

Overall, Days & Nights is a record to watch out for. It's songs reflect a familiar and loved indie pop vibe. Vocal and instrument work are pretty good, too. Plus, the songs are quite catchy. And although certain tracks might take some time, eventually they all will be playing back in your head before you know it!

Gunther Brown and his songs belong to some indie coming-of-age movie or television series soundtrack. It's not just the expressive voice but the acoustic electro sound as well as the melodic vibe definitely makes this one an A++ indie folk pop record.

More often than not, you'll see Gunther Brown as a duo comprised of Pete Dubuc and Evan Chase. Occasionally, they do transform into a 5 piece crew, with Eric Heintz, Ethan Gamage, Derek Mills and Chris Devlin as additional members.

This self-titled compilation is a collection of EPs and singles the band has released in their previous records.

It's not just the expressive vocals but the acoustic electro sound as well as the melodic vibe that makes this one an A++ indie folk pop record.

Gunther Brown has been hailed as one of "the" bands to watch out for. Listening to their music, this isn't tough to imagine. Their brand of acoustic indie altrock is beautiful, pleasant and definitely heartwarming. They're the type of band you'd love to play right before you sleep at night to remind you about your wonderful day or if you simply want to reminisce about the good times.

Madison is a quiet, reflective opener for the compilation. This folk pop cut features gravelly vocals accompanied by somber piano and expressive lyrics. Later on, the song very slightly changes pace as it embraces marching band snares and cymbals. Meanwhile, Vultures and California bounce off some good vibes, opening with upbeat acoustic strumming and matching it with great lyrics. The boys even add a slight country honky tonk in the record with the Great Eustis Jailbreak; incorporating mandolins and handclaps.

Perhaps, Bob Keyes from The Portland Press Herald best sums up the band - describing and including them among his "10 to Watch" article:

Gunther Brown’s music is earthy, eloquent and entirely honest. The four-piece band from Portland reminds one of early Jayhawks, with maybe a touch of Wilco. It’s Americana music, with roots that spread to folk, rock and old-time country.

This rings true. It's hard to find great quality music online but when you do find that band or album, you'll know that you have something special on your hands. Take a listen.

This set is a collection of acoustic folk pop songs from Frenchman, jumy. Every Day is the First Day mixes masterful guitar strumming with southern harmonica and some peppy tune. It reminds me of a quiet summer getaway where you just sit down with friends, sing along and play guitar. Nice relaxing sounds.

This the second release from the artist. His first album, de bric et de broc, is also a compilation of folk pop songs played in his beautifully embellished guitar and recorded in his makeshift home studio.

The album is available as a free download on Jamendo and licensed under a creative commons license.

Despite being a Frenchman, jumy sings in English and only occasionally in his native tongue. This wonderful acoustic ensemble starts off with the semi-upbeat track, Flowers. The song features beautiful instrument work and a catchy chorus. It's a happy tune that's guaranteed to bring a slight peek of sunshine in an otherwise gloomy afternoon.

On the other hand, tracks like Second Hand, Wonder and Didn't Wanna Fight exude a quieter, less upbeat sound. The songs are still quite relaxing and highlighted with jumy's voice; makes for a perfect and relaxing afternoon soundtrack. Another track worth checking out for that southern-Louisiana-bayou vibe is I Have Got My Feet. It's beautiful song and instantly a favorite in this record.

Even though the album was recorded entirely on a makeshift home studio, it still sounds quite good. Guitar work is great and vocals are quite clean. Worth checking out if you love upbeat acoustic folk pop.
