Title track Theatre By The Sea does not also disappoint with its lush arrangement of drums, guitars, keyboard, and tenor/soprano saxophones. The beats are sharp yet they transition smoothly through the ears.

One of Us: Disengage

Kitty Wong and her sultry voice makes up one-half of, One of Us. The other half is talented producer, Sinitus Tempo.

Together, they�re dubbed as One of Us and it�ll be a shame not to recognize the beautiful music they create. Disengage features 10 tracks that contains elements of jazz, soul, R&B and experimental downtempo pop.

This diversity works out quite well as the album brings in a rather unique touch. You can say that at times, the songs caresses listeners; at other times, it seduces; and still on others, it simply relaxes.

Off the bat, listeners are greeted with a sexy, downtempo cut titled, I Met You. Kitty Wong�s vocals take center stage on this one; creating a sexy, lounge vibe in addition to the piano work and the occasional saxophone.

The entire album flows smoothly, one track transitions nicely into the next as if they were secretly weaved and connected to each other. Elegance, for instance, has that underlying jazz bass and R&B sound while the vocals continue to mesmerize.

On the other hand, closing track, Changes slightly features more pronounced instruments. The tempo is also a bit faster and snappier. Showcasing his mastery in creating the perfect backdrop for Kitty�s vocals, Sinitus weaves a mesh of beats while incorporating unexpected classical style violin accompaniment for most of the track.

This is one record that shouldn�t be missed. For those who enjoy lounge jazz style music and are open to some experimental grooves as well, this will be like an enjoyable cup of coffee. Really gorgeous album to check out.

Action News Team: How To Defend Yourself Against Fresh Fruit

Action News Team is as eclectic as can be with their new record, How to Defend Yourself Against Fresh Fruit. The album comes with a host of blues, rock, jazz and alternative punk sounds that seem tossed inside one giant blender and turned into a smoothie.

The band hasn’t been sitting idly, in fact they’ve released about 12 compilations and singles since last year on BandCamp.�This is the latest from the roster and the second one to be featured here in the blog.

You’ll discover a world of boozy dance club vocals, wailing guitars as well as 70s inspired Doors vibe circling all around.�

According to the band, they only intended to create a 5-track EP but ended up having a 17-track record instead. No harm done though since the record sears with great rock tunes from start to finish.

After being greeted by a raucous and short intro, second cut,�Getting Old Sucks, follows suit. Bearing deep, rockish guitars and an abundance of rolling drums, the track feels like a CBGB punk staple. Moreover, the slurry vocals and slight uptempo beat add to the band’s magnificence in this track.

It’s followed by a decidedly more mellow 70s-style rock and roll single in Pope Mobile. It’s easy to imagine the Lizard King freaking out on stage to this one.�A few personal picks from the record are�Naked Mud People; trippy title track,�How to Defend Yourself Against Fresh Fruit; as well as the heavily blues rock,�Harmless Fun.

Influenced by groups such as Sonic Youth, The Pixies and the Stooges, it’s easy to pick out their hand in developing the band’s current taste.

Overall, this is a fun compilation that could find a special place on your playlist. It’s perfect for anyone who has a heart for old-fashioned rock and those who like things a little eclectic and weird. Grab the compilation. It’s available for free download.

Shy Guys vs Nurses

A downtempo, electro compilation filled with great bass lines and jazzy tones; this self-titled record from Shy Guys vs. Nurses�makes for an intriguing listen.

Recorded back in the 90s along with most of the releases from the group, the tracks are over a decade old. To date, it seems the band has only played one show at “The Factory in Bellingham, Washington on September 15, 2000.”

Even though they might not be around anymore, they did left a good footprint behind in the form of this classic, easy listening album.

Despite the wear and tear, this mini EP from Shy Guys vs. Nurses, still sound quite modern and fresh. If you look up the band, you’ll likely find very little about them but their sound definitely manages to speak for themselves.

Armed with a fusion of jazz, blues and experimental electronica; the EP resounds with a Sneaker Pimps sound that was such a big hit during the late 90s.

From first listen, you’re greeted with a gorgeous electro-jazz piece complete with twinkly pianos and a sultry vibe in Slower Times. It’s a soundtrack to some of your more somber moments definitely. F Sharp Groove, follows next and brings in a little sunshine to the compilation. Featuring a prominent bass and a cool, bluesy groove; you’d find yourself slowly head bobbing to this cut.

Meanwhile, Super Believe, explores a more experimental side. Propelling a gamer, 8-bit sound and transforming it into a complex piece of music. Finally, Transylvania closes the EP with a jaunty and rockish rhythm. Distorted guitars and deep basslines coupled with some neat beats highlight the cut.

The EP deserves a listen and a download. One of the better unknown experimental electro jazz records to come out during the 90s. Check it out and see if you like it too.

And that doesn’t mean getting “signed” any more [although a few of them already did..] – that means having millions of fans around the world who will be there sharing the heck out of their creative commons licensed music, contributing big to their Kickstarter campaigns for new albums, buying their limited edition signed merchandise and coming to their concerts.

Unhappy Free Orc: Broken People EP

With a name like Unhappy Free Orc, you can expect something eclectic and different from this compilation. The band is the brainchild of�Marlon Moilanen & Miro Palokallio, they are joined by a group of talented musicians that help create their distinct sound.

Broken People EP is a 7-track compilation consisting of songs that didn’t make it the group’s previous releases.

According to the band, they might be “leftovers” but they consider them as among some of their best work.�

Jumping between jazz, electronica, pop and even progressive, on occasion; Broken People EP is an album that can easily satisfy your cravings for a variety of genres. This Finnish duo are quite eclectic, choosing to experiment instead of steadily sticking to one kind of sound.

Opening with a trippy electro dance cut, Heartline. The band had this to say about the track:�Heartline was inspired by what an Indian internet stalker said about our friend Salla. The song wasn’t originally intended to be released, but once finished, it was so good it would’ve been a pity not to release it.�

The other cuts have their own special origin stories, most of which were singles that were dropped last minute from being included in certain compilations. Singles like,�The Shopping Mall,�contain a blues, jazz atmosphere, coupled with whispery vocals while All Rights Reserved, is a dark, sweet cut reminiscent of 80s Depeche Mode.

The album is short but it does have noteworthy cuts to listen to. Broken People EP is currently available for free download at BandCamp. Check it out.

Phototaxis: Pretty Ugly

Phototaxis is a special band that’s made primarily of�Yael Feldinger�(lead vocalist and singer), as well as�Itay Tsuk (composer, arranger and pianist). They’re joined together by the talented crew of�Nir Blum,�Roy Cheled,�Yael Geva and�Neta Cohen Shani.

The band is only�a couple of years old, but they seem poised for success; having their debut record come out to critical praise in their home country of Israel.

Fusing a lush set of tracks that echo jazz, blues and a trip hop atmosphere; Pretty Ugly is a strong record that aims to please its listeners and does it successfully.

Phototaxis sounds like the lovechild of Macy Gray and the Sneaker Pimps. Their sultry blues jazz and trip hop combination is endearing. You’ll find yourself gently swaying to the grooves of the tracks and being mesmerized by the sound.

Released last 2010, the album is a couple of years old. Starting with the title single, Pretty Ugly, listeners are greeted to great vocal work and a slightly-drunkin’-jazz-bar mood throughout the cut. It’s probably one of the best tracks representing the group and album in total.

Alone,�is another enticing single that bears a slightly stalkerish-feel. With a steady beat and hypnotic vocal work, it’s quite catchy. Meanwhile, Isn’t It Funny is a more serious jazz ballad that deserves a slot in a James Bond film; while ending track, Leftovers, creates a mesh of synths, samples marked by a melodic hazy veil.

Pretty Ugly is nowhere near being ugly. In fact, its’s an awesome record especially for people who adore the whole trip hop/jazz blend. Featuring great composition and recording, it is a real gem in a sea of overabundant mediocrity.�Take a listen and see if you like it too.

Eric and the Blues Band

Eric and the Blues Band isn’t really as straight up as you would want them to be. For one, there is no one in the band named Eric and the group rarely plays straight blues. On their Facebook page, they mention that “Eric” is a fictitious persona created by Nick to “hide behind to protect himself from his mounds of tax troubles, and paternity suits. By naming the rest of the guys “The Blues Band”, Nick created an environment where he can fire anyone at any time, for no reason at all, and still keep the same name!”

It’s cheeky story but nonetheless, doesn’t interfere with the fact that the band features some seriously catchy blues pop rock in this record.

With a witty touch, the album�flourishes�with gorgeous rhythm and catchy beats. Opening single Get Me My Sweater, is one of the more blues inspired cuts in the album. Featuring great guitar work, the song starts off mellow before transitioning into a full-on blues rock fest.

Second track, The Postman, is a personal favorite. Armed with cheeky lyrics and a summer pop rock sound, the song is fun to listen to.�On the other hand, Sally, explores the band’s midtempo groovy side while Ethanol Girl, takes it up even slower with complete vocal blends and harmonies that complement the instruments beautifully.

This self-titled debut certainly contains enough charm and wit to entertain. More than that, the instrument work and catchiness of the tracks are top notch; making this a great record to have on your player. Check it out and see if you feel the love for this one as well.

Danny Sherwood: When My Ship Comes

With his melodic baritone voice and sweet piano playing, Danny Sherwood echoes the sultry and often somber mood of Morissey.�Even the EP title sounds off a bit of melancholia from��The Smiths.

When My Ship Comes In is a lot like an afternoon lull after the heavy rain has passed. The short album only contains 5-tracks but the depth is beautiful and often mesmerizing.

Already a songwriter at a young age, Sherwood shares intimate moments of self-reflection through his carefully written lyrics and catchy melodies.

The EP starts with Flowers of Happiness;�a single that is sweet and polarizing from beginning to end. You’ll find yourself stopping to listen as well as taking in every moment. Sherwood’s mastery of the piano and his easy transition from soulful baritone to a slight rock growl adds great depth to the song.

Bitter Ditty, meanwhile offers a slight jazzy touch to the compilation. Sherwood occasionally bashes the piano while growling out his bitter lyrics, creating a beautiful tension within the song. Lived in Sin, on the other hand, lifts up the mood of the EP a bit with its stop and go mellow/jaunty beat. It’s almost a honky tonk country sound that brings to mind Gogol Bordello.

Title track, When My Ship Comes In closes the EP in a somber note. Again, the piano work and vocals take center stage. However, the lyrics are great stories in themselves and worth noting as well.

To finish off, the album is polished and features great quality recording. It’s a plus that the songs are equally awesome as well. You can get this download for free so go ahead and enjoy.

Nine Stories: Nine Stories LP

Nine Stories LP embraces pop acoustic music far more than most have ever dared.

Being the brainchild of 80′s born musician/composer Nacho Ruiz, the musical project is rooted in a pop acoustic sentimentality, but is certainly not limited by the form. By incorporating a plethora of instrumentations, Ruiz stretches his music in some very interesting directions.

This self-titled album, which was released in May 2010, offers 14 tracks that’s been written by Ruiz himself and was recorded in Brazil Studio (Madrid) under Javier Ortiz.

Jumping atop bubbly guitars, All The Sad Young Men opens up with a carefree sensibility. The addition of soothing violins make this track the perfect piece to set the overall mood.

Foreign Language hops over with a melancholic ballad. The subtle arrangement perfectly accompanies the song’s downhearted sentiment.

Making use of glowing piano keys as forefronts, Reviews & News definitely sends sparkles to the ears. Aloha Blue, on the other hand, focuses on tasty guitar strings. This track is simple but brilliant, I love how the Hawaiian tune perfectly blends to the sweet vocals.

An immediate favorite, Nice Kalimba stretches Nine Stories‘ musical capabilities. Though it’s short, the track executes an eccentric sound that’s entirely fresh.

Dizzy closes up with an acoustic charmer that’s been delivered in a genuine and honest manner. The piece perfectly settles in with its flawless and unpretentious melody.

Nine Stories embraces something that’s distinctly new to the ears. The vocals and tunes exudes a solid tang that’ll surely find its way into your heart.
