If your’e in the mood for some hazy, garage rock and saccharine pop, then High Pop is the band you should be listening to.

After a successful run with their previous record, Hip Hip Hooray delivers the same sweet and intoxicating punk fuzz pop they’ve come to master. Treading this route the second time around has its benefits though, the band sounds more polished than ever and seem more comfortable with their chosen genre.

Be prepared for track after track of energy filled, freaky indie rock mixed with a whole lot of sugary pop when you listen to this record.

Hip Hip Hooray is like a long lost cassette or record you discover one lazy summer afternoon. The more you listen to the album, the easier it is to get lost in the mood and imagery painted by the music.

Kickstarting this love affair is the fuzzy indie folk pop number, Loner. It’s a track that maintains the right amount of lo-fi dirty guitars, warbled vocals and catchy harmony to mimic how it feels like to look through a kaleidoscope of colorful beauty.

Each track resonates with a lo-fi appeal that’s highlighted by the beautiful harmonies High Pop creates even with just simple instruments. A few cuts worth noting include Crawl, I Like the Smell, Sparkler as well as the grungy, Fast Kids.

Personally, the album is refreshing. It’s hard not to compare it to a soundtrack in a Sofia Coppola film; beautiful, ethereal and all that indie lo-fi goodness rolled into one.

If you have a soft spot for this type of music then don’t skip out on this one. The album is worth checking out and downloading, no doubt about it.

Back with a brand new record that resonates with warm and rich instruments; banjo-wielding bearded guru, Jacob Montague proves that he’s ready to entertain and mesmerize listeners again.

Jacob is actually no stranger to the Frostclick blog. His previous records, Fly On and On a Tightrope to the Sun have been featured here before.

Tiger and Traveler consists of three parts in its 11-track entirety and is based on a short story written by the artist with her sister. Every single track is beautiful, conjuring up thoughts of relaxation and comfort. It’s a fitting soundtrack for quiet getaways in some far away location.

The first 6 tracks make up the first part of the record. According to the liner, this serves as the “heart of the album.” The tracks were recorded in a 2 year span and are more organic in feel compared to the previous records. Traveler and Side of the Highway are two tracks worth checking out in the first part.

Part 2 includes tracks number 7 and 8 (The Unheard Parade & Observation Wheel the former is a great blend of banjo strings and slightly upbeat melody while the latter focuses more on expert guitar plucking with pianos on occasion.

The third part of the record consists of three cuts serving as score to a short movie called, “Moriah.” Infused with somber pianos and coupled with dreary and dramatic bits; the track makes a great soundtrack for living in a dream world.

Montague’s sound has evolved throughout his releases but at the core of it all is a talented instrumentalist and banjo player that can create emotional and heartfelt cuts worthy of a listen. If you’re a fan of the singer’s previous works, there’s no reason you won’t like this one as well.

Atlanta’s Book Club is an indie folk septet that reimagines classic marriage of vocals and carefully crafted orchestration by transforming their heritage into sound unbound by history.
Their new 5-song EP, Shapes On The Water, showcases the band’s sweetly-sung coed harmonies nestled into thoughtful arrangements. The songs blend classic influences like Cash, Petty, Dylan, and Reed, with a country, pop, and indie spin. Singer-songwriter Robbie Horlick strums a nylon-stringed acoustic, leading the 7-piece band through his honest tales of love and heartache, with an interpretation as modern as it is hauntingly timeless.

Oh! You Lied mixes contemporary rock and pop sounds with what has always helped country music quite enjoyable to listen to. Understand Please Understand is a beautifully performed track with a lyric that is one of the better ways to equate the feeling of lost love.

Love Like Parachutes features a moody melody, emotive ballad that we expect from the band. And Your Navy And Your Nurse is an ear-pleasing track with an uplifting sing-along ready tune that wraps up the five track EP in a cohesive, tight, and distinctive type of sound.

Shapes on the Water is the Book Club’s sophomore release and captures the band’s song writing, musicianship and arrangements in their finest yet expanding its sonic and thematic horizons.

Hop on the the time machine as Pepper Johnsons‘ Flat Country brings you good old country melodies with a psychedelic twist.

Released last June 19, this 8-track album was written and performed by David Moore at Brooklyn, NY. Other musicians that made this album possible are Jeff Ratner, Kari Groff, and Kristen Andreason.

Heavy acoustic strums and a hooking 80s beat opens in 1983. Let this highly-addictive track brighten up your day with its upbeat rhytm.

Laura follows up with a slow burning arrangement highlighting steady drums and busy strings. Moore’s stellar vocals invests the right amount of emotion that the song needs.

Blending country and psychedelic stomp, One and One and One is a pleasurable sonic piece that’s oozing with energy. Press play and let this groovy track sway your feet.

Songs like When the Morning Come, Poussičre, and A Friend are saccharine acoustic pieces that tones down the energy from the upbeat tracks. This sonic gems, especially A Friend, are the perfect soundtrack for mornings over coffee.

In Flat Country, Pepper Johnson has crafted an album that exudes rhytmic variation while maintaining faithfulness on a genre. The preciseness, quality, and creativity of the songs make this album a must hear for any season.

Encapsulating an overall sunny and chill vibe, Roomtone‘s Turkish Saddle is a fun and lounge-y album that screams sun-soaked carefree days.

With an album cover of a man holding a vintage camera filtered in sepia tone, this full-length pays tribute to bedsit bands of the past and present. Turkish Saddle offers twelve tracks all written, arranged, and produced by Alexander Yaker.

Lost and Found opens with a quirky acoustic hook blended with jazzy horns. Yaker’s earthly delivery and fluid voice makes this tracks a perfect backdrop for that lazy holiday.

Showing its indie pop influence, Your Golden Crown is a saccharine love song that’s laced up with glowing keys and steady drum beats. Fire Fire on the other hand booms with its all folk rock goodness. Press play and let its spellbinding chorus charm your ears.

Toning down a bit, Solitaire shows an impressive acoustic arrangement. Tracks like New Mexico, Fields of Fireflies, and Subway Lines will surely make the indie kids craving for more. Roomtone’s formula of combining warm tones, hooking subtle melodies, and chill vocals will definitely attract a lot of music aficionados.

All in all, Turkish Saddle by Roomtone is an epitome of laid-back music suited for old and young generations.

Inspired by indie favorites Bon Iver, Racounters, The Shins, Sufjan Stevens and Kings of Leon, among others; it’s easy to make Daniel James your new favorite if you like the music of the artists mentioned.

Comfortable Cage flits between blueesy rock one moment and then moody folk rock to the next, entertaining the audience all the way through.

The album itself is a couple of years old and was recorded at “ma and pa’s house before they destroyed my studio and built a bigger kitchen…” according to the artist.

Even though it’s a home recording, Comfortable Cage is as beautiful as it can get. Thanks to James’ charming style, you’ll easily find yourself drawn to the tracks.

Living for the Freakshow, welcomes listeners to the quaint EP. Boasting acoustic guitars, a midtempo beat and some wonderfully gorgeous vocals; the song is tailor made for quirky afternoons spent with friends. Title track, Comfortable Cage, was written out of self-reflection. It was done in California at a time when the artist spent his longest time away from home. The slightly uptempo beat contrasts with his moody, sometimes dark singing style on this one.

Finishing the album, She’s the One is a simple and slow acoustic single while, Run From Under Your Thumb, features a slight country sound. Both are nice tracks to finish off the feel-good compilation.

The EP is short but it emanates with a homey vibe; making you want to slap it on while doing house chores of if you want some good music to keep your afternoon a little brighter. Grab the download. This is currently available at a name your price option at BandCamp.

As a modern day travelling troubadour, Fraser can match his snappy guitar work with his cultured vocals which propelled him enough air time and gave him three albums and Sketches of a Renegade, a four-track compilation of Fraser’s solo performance in Doncaster, UK.

Devil’s Play is a straight up country side music that talks about a sinning man hanging from his judgment post, with fire at his feet and his head plagued full of ghosts.

The Dark Wood continues the heavy theme preceded by the previous track. Fraser’s powerful guitar strumming is perfect in delivering the setting of the song.

The Taunting of Del Toro imposes rather a melancholic feel compared to the first two. The melody is slow and the lyrics cutting deep to one’s heart. Lastly, Breaking the Reigns sums up Fraser’s tall tale of globe-trotting and adventures.

Wherever he finds himself, Fraser impresses with his out-loud laugh and warm, considerate manner. Although he’s come a long way from Tasmania and the sea shanties, he’ll always fondly remember those drunken sailor roots.

His first foray into recording and releasing an EP, Jeremy Clay Price’s Acquired Taste EP is a collection of mellow tracks written over a span of 8 years.

The album is a gorgeous collection of melodic cuts that represent a personal journey for the singer. Singing about his faith and reflections on life, most of the cuts are quite expressive.

It was recorded with a long time producer friend Toby Baxley and comes with 5 simple but heartwarming songs worth noting.

If you’ve always been a fan of soft and inspiring acoustic pop tracks, then you’ll find a keeper in Acquired Taste EP. This short compilation might have simple tracks, arrangements and instruments but it exudes a beautiful atmosphere that’s rarely seen in most compilations today.

Starting the short record is, We’re Still Here, a raw single that sets the mood for the less than 20 minute album. Featuring acoustic guitars and Price’s soothingly familiar voice, it’s a gorgeous piece that sounds uplifting. Title track, Acquired Taste, showcases some beautiful guitar strumming while Find You There, sees the artist more willingly bare his soul. The compilation is capped off with the heartfelt track Love You. Need You.Want You. The song defines Price’s sound and is perhaps the most emotional in the album.

Acquired Taste EP is suitable for anyone looking for good acoustic inspirational pop to grace their ears. Grab the free download, share it and enjoy.

Released last June 14, 2011, this 14-track collection was described by the Los Angeles Times as “an edgy, experimental folk opera blending acoustic guitar songs with percussive chamber and orchestral music”.

The album kicks off with a 55-second opening track that technically sets the chill-out ambient mood of the collection. Title track Lillian follows with saccharine guitar play ups and poetic verses that are hard not to fall in love with. Ben’s simple delivery blends well with the subtle build up violin solos and steady drum beats.

Maintaining the pure folk aesthetic, Imaginary Friends showcase steady acoustic arrangements and Dylan Nichols’ earthly vocals. Scuba Lessons, on the other hand, traverse the more upbeat avenue by inclining more on rhytmic drum beats.

A three-part sonic project, Underwater Sounds (The Introduction, The Instrumental, and The Medley) is an instant goldmine for those looking for melodies that would war and calm the senses. In Underwater Sounds- The Medley, Ben Lear and Dylan Nichols‘ voices blend flawlessly transporting you to ethereal soundscapes.

Adding a bit more funk, It’s A War focuses on deep tones and guitar to roughen up the ambient scene on the first half of the album.

An instant favorite, Show Me Love is an dangerously infectious track with hooking tunes. Lap Steel and Guitar Play-ups adds a charming flair with the vintage-sounding vocals.

In Lillian: A Folk Opera, Ben Lear has braved the waters to stretch and maximize the potential of folk music, producing sonically great tunes that’s purely original.

Hailing from Raleigh, NC, this Lewisdale, Maryland-raised artist started his music career by self-releasing his first album “Roy” all the way back in May of 2001, followed by “Songs from the Valley” five years later. He than briefly joined in with The Whistlestop and returned to working solo to bring us, among others, Mike & Eileen Chapter One. Spanning a hefty 13-track collection, the album is a wonderful collection of folk pop sounds fuelled by undeniable passion and musical talent. So watch out, you just might get addicted.

I Never Knew opens up with a plethora of warm guitar strings and glowing harmonies. This soothing love song is a perfect backdrop for chilling out.

Images burst into a jungle of colours in Wisteria as poetic lines play throughout the track. This drum and electric guitar ensemble is also reminiscent of soft rock.

Lines like “I swore I’d never make the same mistake” welcomes the listener to Midnight Moon, a stripped-down acoustic track that beautifully highlights Mike Roy’s earthly vocals. Further accompanied by gorgeous violin played by Daniel Hart (Polyphonic Spree, St. Vincent, The Rosebuds), the track is a perfect companion for the days when your thoughts are simply running wild.

Tracks like Down & Out, Please Stay, and Stained Glass Heart features a pure folk aesthetic. Catchy harmonies and a quirky delivery play along self-penned verses about love.

Eileen may just be the sweetest love song. Saccharine harmonies, warm acoustic strings and lines like “I want to grow old with you til my bones are glue and my hair is gone“ create a sugar-filled track that will surely melt anyone’s heart.

Energy-filled Chapter 2 seals up the album with a celebration of upbeat rhythms, danceable tunes, and Roy’s personal life story. The song ends up with a clue that Chapter two of this album is already brewing.

Overall, Mike Roy has created something magical in this album. Besides it’s stellar folk aesthetic, Mike & Eileen Chapter One takes an artist’s personal experience into a level where it can touch everyone’s hearts.
