Post-rock enthusiasts just might find a favorite in Spanish band, Syberia. Made up of Xavi Forne, Oscar Linares, Kandro Dillinger, Carlos Alonso and Oscar Caselles, these guys create a thick wall of instrumental rock that will keep you warm in the dead of winter.

Gathering influences from bands like Isis, Tool, Mogwai, Mastodon and Caspian, they create a hypnotic layer of sound in each cut.

Drawing a Future is the band’s debut compilation and was released last September 2012 at a name-your-price download at BandCamp.

Renaissance kicks open the doors of the compilation as it balances between post rock and metal. The soft opening riff plays on for about a minute before giving way to a richer, not to mention, louder barrage of guitar riffs and cymbals.

One of the best cuts on the record, Colossus Collapse, is as big as its title sounds. The song provides layers of sound in epic proportions. It highlights the contrast between strong and soft while creating drama and mystique as it goes.

Stepping out of character, Red Dawn sees the band exploring their quieter side for a tad bit before introducing distortion. There’s an air of victory and triumph enveloping the track; making for an inspiring listen.

Drawing a Future underneath it all, provides a good ray of hope with a promise of victory. Sort of like a light at the end of a tunnel, each track has its way of beckoning listeners to head towards the light. It’s a beautiful compilation that should satisfy any prog metalheads out there.

Track List:
1. Renaissance 06:47
2. Stampede 05:03
3. Colossus Collapse 05:12
4. Tidal Waves 08:34
5. Skissa 01:32
6. Drawing a Future 06:04
7. The Day After the End of the World 03:58
8. Red Dawn 03:33
9. Framtíð 01:16
10. Ära 03:46

Travel back to the waves and sand in Janek Gwizdala’s new release entitled Theatre By The Sea.

A mainstay in the international music scene both as a bassist and sideman for 15 years, Janek Gwizdala’s long list of credits include playing with Randy Brecker, Mike Stern, Pat Metheny , Hiram Bullock, and many more.

In Theatre By The Sea, the english bassist treats us with nine tracks of funky jazz laced with hints of bossa nova. The collection opens with Erdanase, a sonic infusion of saxophones and sultry back vocals. Thirty seconds within the song and it will definitely calm your senses.

España follows with a combination of hand clapping beats and a mellow approach. Spend that perfect romantic dinner as trombone and lush guitar strings fill the air.

Featuring a more upbeat tempo and saxophone solos, Randroid will uplift your soul to just the right level of energy. Press play and let this sonic wonder channel some positive vibes.

Title track Theatre By The Sea does not also disappoint with its lush arrangement of drums, guitars, keyboard, and tenor/soprano saxophones. The beats are sharp yet they transition smoothly through the ears.

In Theatre By The Sea, Janek Gwizdala has created a special mood album that touches and feels the deepest of our senses. These are the kind of melodies that’s a repeat.

Track List:
1. Erdnase 04:34
2. España 05:45
3. Portugal 05:24
5. Once I Knew 07:21
6. Fooling Houdini 04:10
7. Theatre By The Sea 03:38
8. The Goshman 05:06
9. Chicago Opener 04:58

The man behind Shipwrek is Jason Siegler. His fascination with capturing his day to day existence into sound initially started as a simple project but quickly evolved into a complex set of recordings that throb and pulse with energy as well as life.

Journal is one of those albums you’d want to put on if you need a break from repetitive pop music or loud songs. Made up of laid-back, contemplative beats; it’s easy to mind map your way through things with this compilation on.

As mentioned, the songs on the album serve as a day to day recording of the artists’ life translated into beats, synths, samples and other quirky/soothing sounds. Starting off this album is Speakeasy, a concoction of trip hop beats and a slight gamer almost “curious” vibe throughout the track. One thing you’ll notice as the cuts take one turn after another, is that each one has its own little atmosphere and personality.

In Chasing Circles, you have that reflective mood playing off as the piano swirls and electronic beats fly around before eventually forming into a cohesive unit. Other cuts to check out include For the Days You Don’t Feel It and Barefeeted.

Overall, the entire record flows with emotion. Each instrument and sound used has a purpose; making it a charming album that could easily become the soundtrack to your day to day life as well. Take a listen and enjoy.

Hailing from Ortigueira, Spain, Galdson Vicente Orjales is a composer who began his musical studies at the young age of 10. As a professional musician and teacher, Galdson specializes in piano. Today, he combines teaching and passion for music, creating two albums that’s available for download under Creative Commons. In Roots, the artist offers 16 piano pieces that he had composed during his years of study.

Title track Roots open the listener with rapid flowing keys that ascends and descends in a smooth sailing manner. Old Times, on the other hand, features a slower timbre. The pauses in between the notes channels an overall dramatic vibe.

A charming simple track, Sea Heart is a blissfull piece that’s filled with clean notes that extends one after the other. Playing Together is also a love piece with a more modern vibe. I love how the piece lulls the ears as slow tracks slowly builds into rapid and heavy keys.

An ideal backdrop for dinner dates or lazy weekends, Sharing Coffee is a remarkable ensemble of high and slow keys that gently drifts in the ears.

As a whole, Roots exposes Galdson‘s remarkable talent as a composer. It is quite hard to find classical pieces that’s easy to digest and relate to, but Galdson did it remarkably well. For those seeking for pleasurable relaxing music, this is the right album for you.

The Love of Mr. Clown opens up with jazzy horns and an upbeat vibe that screams fun and sunshine. Press play and let this track brighten up those gloomy days.

Following is When You Touch which is a slower ensemble of horns, ambient melodies, and some fine whistling. While fourth track You Are So Sweet, But… sheds off a classical rock flair as intricate piano keys blends perfectly with drumbeats.

The perfect company for mornings over coffee, Redden Lips & Elevator is an ambient sonic piece that flows smoothly with soft electro tunes and jazzy horns.

The End, Sadly boasts an acoustic arrangement mixed with ghostly layered vocals that gives a nostalgic vibe to the track. Untimely Infidelity ends the collection with a a curious blend of orchestral arrangements and funky pop.

For those seeking for brilliant instrumentals that will fit a variety of mood, A Wish for Awaking in the Dream is a musical gold mine. Tymphony‘s gift of crafting atmospheric music that’s relaxing but not sleep-inducing is really worth the listen.

All India Radio is a four piece crew from the land down under. Even if you’ve never heard of them, chances are you might have encountered their songs from TV shows like CSI: Miami, One Tree Hill or Australia’s premiere series, Bondi Rescue.

They’ve released 8 albums since 2000 and continue to impress as well as win over more listeners thanks to their ambient sound. Their mix of hypnotic downbeat electronica serves as a lush soundscape that listeners can easily get lost in.

Free Me (Remixes & Outtakes) contains a collection of released/remixed and previously unreleased songs that’s offered by the boys for free.

The End or Near, kickstarts the album and features a Sade-like feel. Showcasing beautiful female vocals, moody guitars and a slightly dark atmosphere; the song graciously welcomes listeners to the band’s unique sound. It’s definitely an easy favorite and provides a high standard on the tracks you can expect to hear from the record.

Free Me (Remixes & Outtakes) by All India Radio

Other tracks that you shouldn’t skip on include, Morning Drops, which is a gorgeous acoustic song featuring the same female vocals from the first cut. It’s simple and clean while combining violins at the background. This is also one out of three previously unreleased tracks by the group. The other two, Waukaringa and Tijuana Dream, are two of the longest tracks in the record. They run for 7 and 6 minutes, respectively.

Overall, you get an album that’s definitely a must-listen for any ambient lover out there. It’s even a surprise that they’re releasing this for free since most of the tracks are pretty good and definitely done in great quality. Go ahead and take a listen. You’ll definitely enjoy this as well.

Bringing in a fusion of experimental trip hop and dance pop sounds, Nonchalant by Ben K. Adams is a nice little getaway compilation for those looking to enjoy a little time out on the dancefloor.

This is the latest release from the artist and it combines his skillful guitar playing with his expert mixing skills.

Nonchalant is a short EP but it’s enough to entice the listeners and keep them hooked with the few tracks it has in tow.

Opening with the semi acoustic number, It’s Been Done Before; the song reminds me of Justin Timberlake and marked with a catchy pop beat. It’s a nice number that coaxes dance moves out of you. Essentially, a great upbeat electro track that serves as a perky opener for the EP.

It’s followed by, I Hope Dana Approves, which slows down the tempo of the EP a tad bit. If the first one was a straight up, jump-into-the-dancefloor-track; this second one is more the smoothly- slide-onto-the-dancefloor beat. They’re both equally enjoyable though. Meanwhile, You’ll Die Regretting Everything, has an Eastern feel to it. It combines exotic sounding samples as well as a somewhat spiritual atmosphere.

Final track Carcinogenic Closure, runs for only 2 minutes. In the track, the artist creates a jazzy coffee club beat with pianos and sparkling sounds.

According to the artist, each sound represents something he hasn’t done before. It’s a sweet and fresh compilation that deserves a listen, for sure. Check out the download and see if you like it.

On a Tightrope to the Sun is a collection of tracks by singer/songwriter Jacob Montague. The album contains mostly new originals from the singer and one track from his previous record, Fly On.

Known for his spontaneous approach when it comes to recording and creating his sound; the album captures the quiet beauty of instruments while encapsulating beautiful melodies that’s present in Jacob’s sound.

Like his previous album, this one is offered at a name-your-price option over at his BandCamp page.

This is the second compilation Montague has explored as a solo performer. The prolific musician also moonlights as a member of indie folk number, Branches, as well as electronic folk group, Achilles and the Tortoise. While making On a Tightrope to the Sun, fellow Achilles and the Tortoise member, Zach Pattison, helped remix the cuts.

Composed of 15 tracks, the record opens with twinkly keyboards and soaring synths; London is a track that conjures images of the movie-myth frame of the rainy and romantic city. Slightly uptempo and filled with bright beats, the song opens the record in a nice way. All of the songs on here are instrumental but Jacob’s capacity to mesmerize with his arrangements and use of instruments are shown in full force. Cuts like London Acoustic, Cinema, Once Youth and This Sea of Sound are among my favorite ensembles in the record.

Overall, the album fares well as a cleanser of the palate. The songs are clear and communicate a pureness that’s fit for relaxing when you’ve had a stressful day. Go take a listen and grab the download.

Artist and composer Alexander Chereshnev, has unveiled his latest project titled Unremembered Startdust. The EP comes equipped with 4 tracks that are both hauntingly dreamy and melancholic.

The artist has been around the music scene since 2004, producing various types of music and releasing a few EPs. Among his first compilations was a short record titled Going Home. This was released under his then moniker, Siberian Son.

After this first foray, he followed it up by releasing various vinyls, singles as well as contributing to different compilations including this latest record.

His previous works were supported and welcomed by quite a few world-famous DJs the likes of Hernan Cattaneo, Nick Warren, Paul Oakenfold, John 00 Fleming and Anthony Pappa to name a few. Moreover, his succeeding albums also gained plenty of notice. Although he’s moved on to a more ambient, downtempo vibe; the artist still brings in that special touch.

Unremembered Stardust is his latest album. As each of the track plays, the artist brings you to a world where deep and dreamy sounds abound. Starting with Vanishing Memories, you get this foreboding feeling ringing in. It’s haunting but also filled with a nice melodic touch. Meanwhile, Parfois is a gorgeous track that features spoken word in French along with some atmospheric sound while Some Other Color, is one of the more upbeat tracks on the record. Finally, the EP is finished off by Non Mi Ricordo which features SackJo22. The song has that Elvish feel like something you can imagine fairies, nymphs and elves would sing to themselves in the forest.

Overall, you get a short but concise compilation that stirs the senses. Each cut somewhat represents the artists’ capacity to mix different styles and genres; making the record a delight to listen to. Go ahead and make sure to grab the download.

Making their second appearance here in the Frostclick blog is Murfreesboro, TN group, Awake! Awake! Their first album, We’ve Been Strangers, was released back in 2007 and was a haven of infectious riffs and indie rock goodness.

This time around, they’re not only brandishing a deeper, more mental sound; they’re also playing it in support of Olan Rogers’ short film series, New Prime.

The 5-song soundtrack are all instrumental and range from moody guitar sweeps to epic, often cerebral sounds that were made to envelop the senses.

New Prime is a sci-fi mini series that Rogers’ has released in YouTube. (You can check out his channel here.) Formerly a part of the creative outfit, BalloonShop; Rogers is now directing and creating his own short films.

The soundtrack by Awake! Awake! contains a dark and moody atmosphere, starting with the near 7-minute track, Pieces III. From the rich guitars to the tone and pacing, the song is a stellar opener. The rockish vibe and overall sound serves as the perfect complement to the film. Most of the other cuts are worth noting as well and pretty much covers the typical sci-fi soundtrack; you’ll find quiet tracks like Escape from Earth to more menacing and haunting singles like, Phantom.

New Prime Episode is currently available for viewing on YouTube. It’s a great short film where the protoganists (Dutch and Feris) are on a hunt for the Phantom. Their exploits and “hunt” is chronicled in the series. There’s a little bit of everything on here, from action, to a great sense of humour. Currently, a few new episodes are out so go ahead and grab this soundtrack and make sure to check out the film too.
