La Monine is the moniker of singer/songwriter, Karenn Gonzalez. With her hauntingly sweet and mesmerizing vocals, she easily conveys emotion and fantasy in her songs.

The singer is based in Chile where she creates her beautiful mellow love songs. �Filled with twinkly, fairy-like sounds along with sweeping classical instruments on occasion, her music easily ushers listeners inside her world.

Fracciones is composed of tracks recorded between 2007 and 2009. It features a traditional Chilean carol as well as a Mars Volta cover.

Even if you may not be familiar with the language she�s using, La Monine makes certain that her music is enough to communicate her emotions through. There�s something utterly mysterious about her sound that easily captures the listener�s attention.

Her exotic and divine voice adds to the emotion she attempts to convey with her sound. Opening single, Alma is a beautiful acoustic cut that highlights La Monine�s vocals. Accompanied with deft guitar plucking, the song exudes a sexy and sometimes forlorn feeling.

Meanwhile, her cover of The Mars Volta track, Asilos Magdalena doesn�t stray far from the original but she brings in a sense of fantasy and deeper vocals to the cut which I think suits the track gorgeously. �Confesi�n is another single to check out as well as Luna Temprana.

Fracciones is a gorgeous compilation. Personally, I think La Monine puts her best foot forward in the acoustic tracks she makes. Her voice deserves to take center stage and gets more exposure that way rather than being enveloped in layers of synth and distortion. Nevertheless, the record is worth checking out. Atupa: QuatribaRap

You don’t really need to know a particular language in order to enjoy music. As trite as it sounds, music is a universal language. It communicates through emotions and sounds.

Atupa’s sound is one such example of music transcending the barriers of language. Even if you don’t understand a shred of what the boys are rapping about,�you’re still in for a good listen.

QuatribaRap was released last July 2012 and it’s currently offered absolutely free over at the group’s BandCamp page.

QuatribaRap is a meeting ground of sound. From rap, hip hop, dub, funk and bass; the record brings together all these elements and transforms them into catchy tracks. The group cites that they hope to create a meeting ground for the burgeoning rap scene in Valencia and from the sound of things they’re certainly off to a great start.

After a short 40-second intro, the album gets it on with the title track, QuatribaRap. It’s a track that stands on solid ground, built on a foundation of dub, synths and catchy hip hop groove. Even though you might not understand the language, there’s no denying that these boys have rhyming skills worth showing off.

A few other cuts worth noting include��L’ Estel (Amb Estel),�Llengua (Amb Atzembla),�Cabr�, que te la fas!, and�Beodisme II.�

Overall, Atupa is an awesome group to check out. QuatribaRap presents quite a handful of engaging tracks that’ll easily make a fan of any random listener. Don’t hesitate to listen in. The beats and general rhythm should be enough to help you decide if this is right up your alley. Definitely worth the grab.

Paolo Pavan: Second

Beautifully endearing, Second is a record that soars with skillful piano work from Italian pianist, Paolo Pavan.

Born in Rome in 1970, he grew up studying music and has been taken under the tutelage of teachers like Stefano Sabatini and Riccardo Biseo. He has a degree in piano as well as classical studies.

Thanks to this early exposure, the artist has released several compilations containing his original compositions. Second, is the latest in his catalogue and proves to be a soothing, reverie-filled piano piece.

The entire record is instrumental and features the artists mastery at his chosen instrument, the piano. Although the album only contains 5 tracks, you easily capture the emotion that the artist extends.

Starting the compilation is the original version of title-track, Second. It’s a piece that oozes gorgeous melody; like a gently bobbing wave that rocks a boat slowly. The song is hypnotizing and features swells at the right moments. It’s a great opener. On the other hand, Fado, is a darker and moodier track that begins with a soft touch while building up to a louder ending. Closing single, The Beginning, finishes the album in the same vein it started; with sweeping melodic piano work that will help lighten your day.

Overall, this is a soothing record you can put on if you want something relaxing to the soundtrack to your day. Grab the download, it’s available for free.

Grenadine: Grenadine

Grenadine is the solo project of French musician, Julie Branet. Initially trained as a violist, she started writing songs and became active with her music career in 2008. This self-titled debut carries four of her lovely tracks.

Her upbeat and sweet French pop style is reminiscent of Canadian singer-songwriter, Feist, bearing catchy pop rhythms you’d want to spend time with on laid back happy days.

She’s also been touring to promote her sound. According to her bio, she’s shared the stage with artists like Heart and The Pirate Husky.

As you can see, the entire EP comes in French. Even if you don’t understand the language, the tracks are easy to like thanks to the French language’s charm.

This self-titled debut comes with only 4-tracks but each piece is catchy and very easy to enjoy. Opening for the short EP is Sainte-Flavie. It’s a poppy track equipped with a lovely beat, making it a such a sweet cut you can’t help but head bob and toe tap with. It’s followed by Pleurer sur ton bras (or according to Google, “Cry On Your Arm,” not sure if that’s accurate). The song has a nice rhythm to play when you’re relaxing on your day off.

The other two tracks are L’amant lamentable and Papier carbone, which both echo typical French pop cuts. As mentioned, if you’re a fan of Feist, you’ll appreciate Grenadine’s sound.

Overall, the EP is a great find. Personally, I have no clue what she’s singing about but it doesn’t stop me from actually liking the songs. Vocal work, the instruments and the general composition are pretty good. Definitely recommend this one especially if you like foreign pop tracks. This is available as a free download.

Granell: Granell

Filling in your cravings for smooth indie pop rock; Granell is an independent Brazilian rock band from Braza.

The group is made up of brothers, Enio and Jesue Torres on vocals/guitars and bass, respectively, along with their friend, Lucas Medina, on drums.

Creating a great balance of pop, acoustic and rock, the band introduces a soft guitar driven sound that swells with rockish melody and harmony.

The self-titled compilation is composed of 6-tracks ranging from acoustic pop to outright alternative rock. Most of the songs aren’t that long, with the entire album clocking in at under 30 minutes only. Nevertheless, it’s enough to showcase the band’s strengths and the areas they need to work on.

It starts off with the melodic cut, Pra Voce. The song combines acoustic guitars and Enio’s soaring vocals to create a soothing song that shows off the bands’ gentler side. It’s followed by Se Decide, a cut that seems to be more comfortable for the band to do. The song is bit more uptempo than usual and will charm you with its lovely vocals and story – and if you don’t speak the language you can always hit play on the video below to follow along while paying attention to the subtitles.

Remaining songs Pilar, Esperanca, and Eu Sei maintain the upbeat atmosphere of the record. However, closing cut Voce Pode, balances the opening single with its signature melodic acoustic feel. It’s a slower single that’s heartfelt yet slightly melancholic.

They say music is a universal language and indeed, even if you don’t speak a shred of Portuguese, most of the rhythm and tune of the songs will easily sink in.

Overall, the album is pretty good for a debut. There’s still room to grow though. Maybe in the future they’ll have tighter, more polished recording; maybe even branch out into English tracks to accommodate a wider audience? However, for now, this is definitely a worthy album to check out. Grab the download.

Ending Satellites: 7 Billion Passengers Only One Flight Left

Cinematic is one of the words that best describe Ending Satellites’ new album 7 Billion Passengers|Only One Flight Left.

Hints of rock, alternative and electronica litter across the album; making it an intriguing record to have.

According to their site, the album is “both musical and photographic.” The goal is to provide listeners with a chance to explore the melodies along with images (which you can find on their site.) The album has a beautiful concept and it also features collaborations from several talented artists.

You can expect a lot of great things from this record, from sweeping guitars to moody tempos and ambient sounding moments; they’re all here. Some of the tracks are instrumental while others feature spoken word or singing.

Opening with the enigmatic single, The Long & Quiet Flight of the Pelican; the track is a dreamy ambient/rock ensemble that satiates the senses. You’ll instantly realize why their sound evoke a cinematic feel to them. It’s followed by The Next Exit which is a more indie rock/ alternative track featuring Londres. It’s probably among the top must-listen cuts in the record, I think.

Although they definitely know how to turn up the volume and rock, some of their best works include their more moody, ambient singles. The album contains 14 tracks, two of which are bonus singles and each of these can easily stand on their own. It’s definitely a record worth checking out whether the genre is something you’re fond of or not.

The United93: The United93

The United93 is a rock band from the Korea. In a country where rock music is a minority and pretty much pop music reigns supreme, it’s amazing and a real treat to find groups that rock out as much as these guys.

Although it’s a bit tough to find info about them, it does seem that they’re quite popular in the Korean rock scene. They were named as Band of the Month in a prestigious music magazine in Korea.

This self-titled EP was released back in 2010 and available as a free download under a Creative Commons license. The compilation is an uncharacteristic marriage of prog, punk and industrial elements.

From the getgo, the band holds you hostage in their first track, Mechanical Love. Combining a rap rock feel, much like Linkin Park; the song is hodge podge of instruments, samples and vocals all vying for your attention. It’s fast, upbeat and ideal for blasting in a tight and cramped club.

Meanwhile, Plastic Heart, has a nice poppy touch, although it’s still quite heavy. The mix of guitars and loud drumming sometimes dwarf the vocals but it still manages to be a good listen. To top things off, they finish the album with some kick-ass and rockin’ version of the classic, Over The Rainbow.

The band is made up of Andy, PJ, J, Ken adn Blau. They might not be a household name in the Western world but they’re definitely doing a great job at what they do. Their sound echoes with raw energy that’s easy to like especially if you have a penchant for rap rock. You can listen for yourself and grab the download if you like it.

Deplasticoverde

I may not understand full sentences of Spanish but there’s something about Deplasticoverde that’s quite intriguing and special.

Deplasticoverde is a special project spearheaded by Carolina Espinoza. A young Spanish artist that released her debut EP in 2010 under Ponk Records. Shaped by folk and pop influences, the album undulates with beautiful acoustic guitars and sweet singing from the artist.

Her songs are simple but they abound with meaningful vocals and some spunky attitude which is enough to make you want to listen even if you have no clue what she’s singing about.

The album comes with 8 full songs that range from upbeat to quiet. Starting with Todo el Tiempo, the record opens with a melodic number from the artist, showcasing her vocals and acoustic guitar playing. The song slowly picks up pace as it transitions into a more powerful single filled with drumming and sparkly pianos.

DEPLASTICOVERDE by Deplasticoverde

Majority of the songs are in Spanish but there is one track where the singer tests out her English singing skills. Tarea de Ingles is a short, 2-minute single that is perfect for travelling across foreign lands. Meanwhile, final track, Clever, mixes hypnotic percussion with beautiful guitar playing from the artist. The song is a bit dark, taking listeners to a mysterious little trip that perfectly closes the record.

Even if you’re hesitant about listening to a foreign album, this is one piece you shouldn’t pass up. Once you’re done grabbing these, also take a listen to Carolina’s latest record, Periodo, over at BandCamp.

The Freak Fandango Orchestra: Tales Of A Dead Fish

Making their second appearance here on FrostClick, the gypsy folk, Barcelona band is back with a new record.

The Freak Fandango Orchestra is an energetic and quirky bunch of musicians who like to play fun and unusual music.

Their first record Love, Death and a Drunken Monkey was entertaining and came doused with beautiful instrument work and amusing lyrics. For their latest release, Tales of a Dead Fish, they retain their crazy upbeat sound, still incorporating humor, superb instrument work and a very catchy beat to every single one of their cuts.

Mixing gypsy, folk, punk rock and polka, The Freak Fandango Orchestra will definitely capture your attention whether you like it or not.

The record opens with Requiem for a Fish, a jaunty track that has saxophones blaring, occasional chanting and some serious catchy tune. It starts off things nicely with its uptempo sound, making you want to stand up, grab a partner and start dancing for no reason. Almost all of the songs have this same infectious beat. Third track, Balkan Beats, seems a great fit for The Mask to dance along to and do all his stunts. There’s a whole layer of instrument work that beautifully merges with the lyrics.

Meanwhile, Hitman’s Love Song (both the last track and the one featuring Paola) combines distinctive vocals with a nice semi-laid-back beat. It’s probably the “slowest” song on the record yet it’s something you can imagine Charlie Chaplin still prancing around to.

Tales of a Dead Fish is a great album. It’s hard not to fall for the music, whether you’re into this kind of sound or not, since it manages to give you that feel-good feeling. Perfect for fans of Gogol Bordello. It’s a genuinely fun album to check out.

Vernon Lenoir: The Rites of Sausage

For times when all you need is a funky and quirky party album, pop over Vernon Lenoir’s The Rites of Sausage and you should be good to go. This crazy party album mixes loud beats, 8-bit pixel goodness and a dose of remade pop culture.

The super talented composer/sampling-genius has released several compilations from various netlabels like UpItUp, VM Recordings, and Ego Twister. This time around, he ventures over to Chinstrap Records and unloads his genius samples via The Rites of Sausage.

From the Macarena to Inspector Gadget, the record is a sure mix of funky goodness.

Even though you’re not exactly big on party music, this is one of those records you’d love to have playing at some point in your downtime. The Rites of Sausage is essentially a world born from illusion. It’s a world where everyone has gone bonkers and only sees sausages and experiences visions from these same sausages.

Opening track like Zwiebelkuchen, start off the party with a blast. Juxtaposing deep beats with a cartoony sound that makes you wonder what exactly you’re listening to. Certain songs like Dwelling, exude a more laid-back vibe; giving listeners a very short breather in between the chaos of the rest of the cuts. Some of my other favorite picks include Augustus featuring Satanicporncultshop and Another Glass of Melonade. Of course, it’s hard to resist Makar and its Macarena beat.

The album is definitely eclectic and something you can enjoy if you’re looking for some fun. Every song is filled with rich and cleverly done samples that’s interesting and worth checking out. You can grab the download over at Free Music Archive. This is worth it.
