New York has always been home to some of the most interesting musicians and These Animals is one four-piece crew that you can easily add to this roster. The boys have just released their self-titled EP showcasing their brand of hipster style pop dance rock, and together with their previous album, Souvenir Sessions, made all of this musical goodness available as a free download through FrostWire.
These Animals met in art school and decided to get together to form the band in 2010. Creating 60s style dance pop music, they showcase their various influences through their energetic sound and performances.

Fairly new in the indie music world, Tsars only got together early this year. Considering the short time, the guys have managed to release two compilations. Whispers EP is their first official debut and contains 6 tracks bordering on indie alternative to a floaty Brit hipster sound. Their sound is reminiscent of lazy hipster rock and makes me think of The Cribs only more melancholic.
Made up of Alexi Mcnulty Bakas (Vocals/Guitar), Corey Eyres (Guitar/B.Vocals), Ross Powley (Bass/B.Vocals) and Lawrence Artitzone (Drums/B.Vocals), they've been playing around together in different bands before deciding to form this one.

St. Louis songwriter, Andy Berkhout, might be best known as the dude who promised to release one free downloadable track for every week of 2010. This might have seemed like a completely ambitious project but so far, the singer has managed to keep his word. On top of this weekly song project, the artist has also delivered several full length records and EPs under his name. This includes this free indie folk chillout affair, Songs on Tape (2009), among others. His other records, particularly Be Silent (2010) and Wake Up For the Day (2009) are also available as a 'name your price' download.

If all you need for company throughout the day is some feel-good indie rock music, then take a listen to We Are The Grand. This quartet initially formed back in Chile but since then have been making the streets of Liverpool their main hub.
Chasing Lights EP is the latest release from the group, following their previous self-titled EP back in 2009. Their songs flourish with eloquent guitars and catchy dance pop beats mixed in with interesting faux-British vocals.
Handing out a nod to their greatest influences, the boys pack their own brand of catchy, energetic indie pop rock that's tough to deny a listen.

Finding great music is like looking for a diamond in a bucket full of zirconia. Coming across Il Abanico was like finding just that, a diamond; albeit a bit rough, it's still a priceless gem that's well worth the effort of finding.
Il Abanico is made up of guitarist Nicolás Losada and singer Juliana Landeros. Together they create a lush filled indie pop rock sound that conjures up images of fun summer nights partying around the block. Originally based from Colombia, the duo met in Boston and decided to band together to create their sound. Despite having very different personalities, their love and ideals for music are the same. Building on this, they've created this amazing, catchy and lovable EP that you'll certainly enjoy.

Playing retro alternative indie pop, On Returning, makes certain that people never forget the good old 80s. A Touch of the Top of the World is the group's first major compilation following a short EP release.
Compiling 9 upbeat retro electronica sounding pop in one record, A Touch of the Top of the World, resonates with the same aesthetic as songs from their previous and recent releases. It combines lovely, uptempo indie alternative rock with an 80s synth touch here and there. If you're a big fan of The Cure or maybe yearned for a more rockish Pet Shop Boys, then this record will make you happy.
