This German three-piece crew may be your favorite unknown band, according to the group’s bio. Playing alternative punk rock, the group is a few years old; having formed back in 2007.

This self-titled debut is a first for them and it comes equipped with 15 energetic and raucous cuts showcasing their love for the rebellious genre.

Composed of Tim – bass; Matthias – drums; and Gu – vocals, guitar, The Undecided is an interesting little punk rock band to check out.

With music that mainly spews out fast drums, low register spunk filled vocals, and loud guitars; there’s no mistaking that the band is quite comfortable in their chosen genre.

Loudly opening with 48 Million, the track runs for less than two minutes and contains characteristic rolling drums and spastic rhythms. A few tracks you can make a beeline for include Cops & Robbers, What You Want and She Said.

As you listen to the record, expect to breeze through the tracks as you go. In fact, you might not fully notice when one cut switches to the next because some of these seem like 30-second to one-minute intermissions.

It’s worth noting that the band sounds their best when playing upbeat punk rock instead of dwelling on their melodramatic side. They have great energy embedded in most of the tracks. Of course, at times, you can tell that the band is still quite unpolished in a non-endearing punk rock style but nevertheless, the few good songs outweigh the bad. Take a listen and see if you like it. This one’s available for free download.

We’ve featured tons of compilation records here on the blog before. Adding one more can’t hurt, right? So here’s a little something from indie label, Eitherorrecords.

The company is described as a label created by musicians for fellow musicians. Specializing in a variety of indie rock, punk, emo and summer rock bands, the label is the perfect haven for new artists.

This is the third compilation from them and it’s a nice venue to discover brand new groups to add to your regular playlist.

Either/Or and More Vol. 3 is one hefty compilation. It’s composed of about 30 tracks from the independent label, Eitheror Records.

The compilation is made up of bands that were part of their roster since they formed back in 2009. It’s a big list to go through but luckily there are plenty of great picks on here.

For instance, opening single from Turnover, is pretty good. It’s a standard pop punk track from the Virginia-based band. Fast, chanty vocals, distorted guitars and overall, fun beat; it’s a perky start for the record. There’s also a nice Beach Boys cover from Michigan band, Citizen. They did a pretty good job creating a slightly updated version of Barbara Ann.

A few other tracks worth the mention include Alison Weiss’ Fingers Crossed, Beast Makes Bomb’s 1,2,3,4 and final track from His Day Has Come, Where I Belong. You’ll find a ton of other great tracks on here. It’s a great album to sort through so take a listen and enjoy!

If you listen through this album, you'd be hard pressed to believe that PunkANation is simply a one-man project. Truth is that, it is. The man behind all that noise and punk rockin' goodness is Ashwin Rao.

Obviously, he has a very special affinity for punk rock. The State of Mind on the Violent Side is, according to him, still under the mixing and mastering process. However, for those who love the gritty sound of DIY music, he's put it up for free download.

The album is a 10-track compilation that should be considered one of the best punk rock finds for the year. It's raw, dirty, traditional and absolutely awesome!

If you listen through this album, you’d be hard pressed to believe that PunkANation is simply a one-man project. Truth is that, it is. The man behind all that noise and punk rockin’ goodness is Ashwin Rao.

Obviously, he has a very special affinity for punk rock. The State of Mind on the Violent Side is, according to him, still under the mixing and mastering process. However, for those who love the gritty sound of DIY music, he’s put it up for free download.

The album is a 10-track compilation that should be considered one of the best punk rock finds for the year. It’s raw, dirty, traditional and absolutely awesome!

The album itself was released on Bandcamp last November 2012. It opens on a high note with Goldilocks and the 5C’s. True to form, it’s an unforgiving barrage of repetitive guitar riffs, slight shouting and rolling fast drums which is at the core of punk. It definitely starts the album right and gets you up on your feet while also offering a unique touch.

Clarke Quay and The Ballroom Mayhem showcase more of the loud madness. Although it’s not exactly his forte (my personal opinion) he does offer quieter tracks on here like the title track, The State of Mind on the Violent Side.

Nevertheless, the album is perfect for anyone who appreciates the genre. It’s expertly done like any other great punk rock album of the yesteryears. Plus, when you think about the fact that only one guy recorded the vocals, plays both guitars and writes the songs; well, it’s kind of mindblowing.

Grab the download if you like this one. It should be worth it.

Related Links:

Rat Attack likes it loud! These boys have a knack for creating pop punk party music that easily gets people jumping up and down. If you’re looking for an album that you can chill out to in the corner as you read your favorite book, well, this isn’t the one.

Filled with 5 fast, crashing and thumping tracks; this self-titled debut leaves you no rest at all. It is energetic from start to finish with some guaranteed fun times for good measure.

The band is made up of Mike Hodges, Charlie Wesson, Dan Wilson and James Flavell. The boys are currently based in Exeter, England.

A Bird in Hand opens the party doors and sends it crashing. The song is fast, furious and has enough spunk to convince you to listen. You get great instrument work where you can easily jam to the beats; guitars are kept crunchy and there’s a nice bassline on there as well. Vocal work is also expressive and energetic.

Facehooked is a slight protest song for a certain social website we’re all too familiar with. It’s all about griping and shouting but coupled with a nice hook; making it a fun track to listen to. This is probably one of my favorites in the compilation. It’s followed by the shortest track on the EP, Look Back and Laugh.

The last two cuts, Heartbeat and Bad Catholic are the two tracks with music videos already released. The former cut is a catchy single with nice pacing. It’s simple but it definitely works. The latter on the other hand, storms through with glaring, old school style riffs before transforming into a full pledged pop punk number.

Here’s another Chicago band that’ll satisfy your craving for lofi-post punk and shoegaze ensembles.

Tiger Bones is a four piece self-described “weirdo surf rock band.” They might sound “weird” but they definitely know how to catch the listener’s attention. Go Over Here is the group’s debut compilation and it’s filled with hazy vocals, some funky 70s style rock and an overall great mood.

The record is produced by Jered Gummere from Pony and features four tracks that’ll easily get you grooving or if not, will make a convert of you in no time.

Built up with dreamy distortions and non-prominent vocals, Go Over Here is a treasure trove for lofi indie pop punk lovers out there.

Starting out the album is Kill Them. Easily one of the best cuts from the record, the song echoes the band’s style best. Native, meanwhile, treats listeners to a set of deft guitar strumming and a post punk, ominous feel. The first parts of the track feature an indistinct sample of people noise.

Fourth track, Eyeliner, is more new wave pop oriented. Those catchy rhythms and hazy vocals that the band has come to master are ever present here. Meanwhile, closing single, Transmission, gives a nod to a band that certainly shows a hint of influence on the group’s sound, Joy Division. It’s a cool cut that rounds off the album experience nicely.

Go Over Here captures your attention and makes sure it doesn’t let go. For some, it might sound weird but overall, it’s a great find. If you like this kind of music, make sure to grab the download. It’s for free!

You can also show your support for the band by grabbing the 7 inch vinyl version.

Crescent Fresh is the second album by The Mondales, a three-piece pop punk band coming from St. Louis.

As an upcoming group from a genre where bands like New Found Glory, Blink-182 and Paramore already flourish, they sure have a numerous challenges to conquer but nevertheless their humble beginnings will eventually lead to their inevitable mainstream success.

In this fourteen track music catalogue, the trio has managed to coherently travel between different musical endeavors and pull powerhouse singles through classic hardcore homages.

CharlieBrownCore progresses nicely from a youthful attitude to a more processed mature standpoint. Raised by Necroborgs’ musicianship is crisply upbeat while the vocal choruses and melodies are infectiously driven to drill into your subconscious. Art School Drama Bomb is somehow a cheesy ballad effectively thrown at the middle of the album to serve as a cooling off period.

Writing About You has a smooth sailing build up that slowly climbs to an undeniably contagious climax. It wraps off with You Don’t Know Jack, which really is an effective closer because it doesn’t emphasize on the saturation of too much pop.

Crescent Fresh is a hell of a fun compilation and solidifies the band’s musical talent and capabilities. Having this attitude of making bold steps in mainlining a mix of their upbringing and expanding on it with a radio-friendly twist will surely dominate commercial audiences in no time.

They are the Coroner for the Police. They are a 1920s mobster rock-punk band with a penchant for a good suit.

They are the fact and the reason why you will have loads of fun listening to music for the next couple of minutes. Hailing from the United Kingdom, Dave, Nathan, John and Dan formed the band at the start of 2012 in a clingy warehouse then gigs followed wherein beers were drunk and friends were made.

The Gentleman’s Relish was released November of the same year they started. Kryptonite Blues at track number one has a heavy punk rock tune and influence from Queens of the Stone Age can be easily recognized. It wastes no time and starts off with a vociferous drum beat. The riffs are bold and straightforward and the vocal screaming was blended melodically and perfectly despite the short track duration.

Hat Topped Head is slightly toned down compared to the previous one that induces a more acoustic rock feel. It has an addictive mid-tempo beat that makes your foot tap involuntarily and nod your head unwillingly due to its joyfully abstract nature. As The Crow Flies features the most powerful vocals in the compilation. The bass level is fantastic and the climactic instrumentals will keep you hooked.

Rope is a fun, raging song and The Other which tops off the five track album nicely. The band was able to display their full talent in their last but certainly not the least song.

Coroner for the Police is a very strong band which will practically blind side you. It stays true to the roots of the punk rock genre and delivers well to the listeners’ hype and expectations.

The better half of writer, Neil Gaiman; superstar Amanda Palmer and The Grand Theft Orchestra are treating fans and new listeners with their latest effort: Theatre Is Evil. Utilizing the power of crowdfunding, the 15-track epic record is being offered for free download. Yes, it’s all FREE!

True to Amanda “F**king” Palmer fashion, the album is extravagant, flamboyant, eclectic and epic-ly awesome! You’ll either love it or absolutely hate it. This is the third studio album for the singer. It was recorded in Australia with producer, John Congleton, on board.

Pooling up more than a million dollars ($1,192,793 to be exact,) Amanda Palmer has proven just how solid her fanbase is. I was reading through various reviews for this and there were only two dominant reactions: people either praised it or they absolutely hated it. That’s no surprise, however, the record itself is a hodge-podge of musical textures. It’s sad, funny, serious, angry and just a lot of fun IF you can get with her musical style.

In fact if you’re new to her, you might want to check out her previous work with The Dresden Dolls or her solo efforts, Who Killed Amanda Palmer or Amanda Palmer Goes Down Under, first before jumping on this one. It’ll give you a clear picture of what you’re up against.

Moving forward, Theatre is Evil opens with the piano rock ensemble, Smile (Pictures or It Didn’t Happen.) The cut is armed with a slow rock tempo that’s constantly hyped up with loud textures, clashing like big waves in the background. In fact, the more I listen to this I keep imagining Amanda bashing on the pianos with a backdrop of real live ocean waves slamming hard against strong rocks. There’s an encompassing feel to the track that makes it seem as if it’s bigger than it is.

Meanwhile, The Killing Type starts to pick up the tempo and by the time you reach Trout Heart Replica, you would have fallen under a hypnotic gaze that’s called Amanda Palmer. The latter, particularly is gut wrenching. It captures a very raw emotion while swirling with great layers of sound courtesy of the Grand Theft Orchestra.

Overall, the album isn’t something you’ll fall for the first time around. Pop it for a play two or three times first. Like getting to know somebody new, you need time to peel back the layers and examine the contents.

Theatre is Evil lays out all of the contents for your perusing. It encourages you to pick it up, shake it around, turn it upside down or even attempt to crack it open, whatever helps you to understand.

Grab the record over at BandCamp. After all, it”s meant to be shared, adored, hated, praised, bashed and loved.

For punk and rock lovers out there, Death to False Hope Records has given us something to be happy about with their latest compilation.

Get My Ass Back in the Van -DTFH Comp Vol. 4 is an album filled with 34 (!) tracks; enough to last you through the entire day. The album comes with unique cuts from The Sandwiches, Captain and Red City Radio to name a few.

Death to False Hope Records have been around since winter to 2008/2009. The label specializes in finding and releasing material from various do-it-yourself bands that are also looking for an outlet to get their material out there. Giving out their musical treats for free, the only thing asked from the fans is the support for the bands and help with spreading the word.

Since their inception they’ve released compilations from the various bands in their roster. Get My Ass Back in The Van is the fourth such compilation in line and like the previous ones, it’s a real treat. It gives us tracks from bands like The Gamits, which were hailed as “America’s best hidden pop/punk secret.” You’ll also get to enjoy songs from Red City Radio, The Brokedowns and even Cincinnati punk buzz band, Mixtapes among so many more.

Giants at Large comes from Long Island, New York, a state where a lot of pop-punk bands have already emerged into the rock scene. Composed by four of the coolest and most down-to-earth guys playing their trade to make it onto the big stage, their recently released album entitled Doubt is an eleven track compilation about transition, progress, and mixed emotions.

Timebomb is a minute and a half introductory track that gives a sneak preview of what the band has to offer and it surely delivers to the expectations in the following tracks to come.

135 Syosset wastes no time and instanteously gives us the fast pop swellings common to the punk rock genre. Doubt combines the audacity of their vocalist and talented instrumental playing in the exact amounts of proportions that we listeners find irresistible.

Devils deliver a heavier theme than any of the other tracks in the album because of the rash lyrical singing and intricate guitar and drum-work harmony. Sleep Sound from the title itself is very dramatic and emotional. It starts off really slow which easily moves the listener’s hearts and feelings.

The band did a great job in coming up with a compilation like this. It is important for a genre to have new contemporaries and influences to keep it alive and growing. Giants at Large made its mark in the punk rock scene loud and clear enough; making them a real option in the vast assortment of their kind.
