Close your eyes and let yourself be taken into an utmost euphoria while listening to the soothing voice of Hope. Released last November 2004 under her label Sweet Lemon, Hope EP features seven self-written acoustic pieces.

Born and raised in Woodstock, New York, Hope learned to play the piano and guitar at an early age, and by 13, she started to write her own songs. After high school, she headed to Los Angeles to bring her music career into fruition. Among her music influences are Mariah Carey, Sade, and Sting.

With her calming and serene voice, this divine singer indeed stands for the name that she has. Apart from the impeccable rhythm of the tracks on her self-entitled album, the lyrics are written with pouring desire and passion, which makes all the songs heartfelt.

Bring Me Flowers welcomes the ears with Hope’s saccharine vocals that teases the ears. The soft, cooing acoustic arrangement serves as a perfect opener to encapsulate the singer’s musical brand.

The Rain Don’t Last follows with humming that serves like a warm cup of tea on a cold rainy afternoon. The song is about anticipating sunshine after the seemingly endless black clouds; a song to inspire everyone through Hope’s singing prowess. While Lighthouse takes you to the depths of acoustic music. With intricate guitar strings on the background accompanied by Hope’s serenade, you may freely drift into your bed full of dreams.

Tall Tall Trees: Moment

When it comes to indie folk, you probably have a long list of them on your music player. However, Mike Savino aka Tall Tall Trees delivers a different kind of indie folk, one infused with a bit of blues and a whole lot of soul. This banjo player has been mesmerizing audiences with his brand of indie music for some time. He has released two albums, a self-titled debut (2009) and this one, Moment (2012.)

Armed with an epic banjo technique that goes through loopers and effects; you can bet you’d never heard a banjo played like this before.

Moment is his latest compilation and comes armed with 9 tracks that flourish with pure indie folk pop goodness that will easily make a convert out of you. The album is offered at a name-your-price digital download but also available in CD versions and Limited Edition Vinyl for purchase.

Starting the compilation is Highwire; a sweet uptempo melodic track that shows off Mike’s capacity to create beautiful drama in his tracks. His voice is both soothing and relatable, something you won’t mind listening to all day.

Men and Mountains showcase a slower yet still melody-filled number while The Elk offers a more blues inspired type of folk rock. You’ll get those Southern style guitars with awesome banjo work. It’s an interlude of sorts since it’s all instrumental. Finally, Waiting on the Day is a cool, upbeat track that showcases fun banjo playing from the singer/songwriter.

Overall, if you want something to keep you relaxed, this is a fantastic record to put on. Tall Tall Trees deliver awesome cuts one after the other. If it won’t lull you to sleep and send you off to neverland or make you appreciate the banjo; then at least you’ll have something to relax to.

B. Eure III: A Mind’s Canvas

B. Eure III or Bernard Eure III definitely knows how to create cool, laid back beats; the kind you can play on a quiet Saturday night while chillin’ with your friends.

A Mind’s Canvas is the first album from this Virginia based artist. He doesn’t waste anybody’s time and right from the start showcases his penchant for catchy rhythm and great rhymes.

According to the artist, “this album is a self produced project I dedicate to the ever presence lesson of life, love and the struggle to balance it all. A mind is truly a canvas because what we see and experience constitutes the images and beliefs engraved in it.” �

It’s not everyday you get a spectacular mini EP that impresses from beginning to end, A Mind’s Canvas is one of those rare moments and it’s filled with special tracks that are hard to ignore.

My Life, opens up the compilation and starts it strong. Expect to end up tapping your feet or doing a little sway with your head as you listen to this track. It’s cool and catchy and guaranteed to leave you with a dose of last-song-syndrome. Right up next is The Verge, featuring a smoother beat, B. Eure’s vocals starts to really shine. The groove is nice and it’s just smooth throughout.

Meanwhile, If I Had a Dollar and Others fill the tracks in between and each song has its own personality. Crash, beautifully closes the record in style as it sways with beautiful grooves and B. Eure’s gorgeous pipes.

Overall, there’s only 5 tracks on this record but if you love soul then it’s almost guaranteed you’re going to love the entire set. Hopefully there’s more to come from this talented singer/producer. It’ll be something to look forward to that’s for sure. Grab the download for the meantime. Enjoy!

Dwight Anderson: All of Me

Toronto native, Dwight Anderson is one of those people where performing and singing has come naturally. At 6 years old, the singer was already impressing audiences at his church. By adolescence, he took his passion further by joining talent shows and recording personal demos.

Fast forward today and the singer has already recorded and released his debut compilation. All of Me, gave the singer a solid foot inside the music world. With his soulful vocals and simple yet catchy R&B rhythms, the songs he creates are instantly likable. Perfect for singing along to and simply chilling in.

Most of the songs on here are a couple of years old but it’s still quite a find. His first big hit, Oh No, gained the singer a solid radio airplay. It’s a slow and smooth R&B style cut that highlights great harmonies and the singer’s beautiful vocals. He didn’t stop there, it was followed by other hits like So Beautiful and Holdin’ On, which is also included in this compilation.

Currently, the singer is working more behind the scenes. He’s credited as penning tunes for various artists including Canadian Idol runner-up, Gary Beals. One of the tracks he wrote for the singer actually earned the young newcomer a Best in R&B/Soul Juno nomination.

Citing Sam Cooke, Aretha Franklin, Jodeci and Boyz II Men among his many influences, it’s not hard to see this reflected in his music. There’s a nice old-school touch to most of his songs that make it instantly ‘groove-able’ even on first listen.

Personally, I thoroughly enjoyed this one. One of the best R&B records I’ve come across for this year. The best part is that this one is offered for free download, so go check it out. Enjoy!

Joe Marson and the Satisfied Mind: Someday Soon

It’s rare to meet an authentic and soulful alternative rock singer these days. However, if there ever was one that came closest to belonging in this little niche; you can bet Joe Marson is one of them.

Armed with a guitar, beautiful melodies and a voice that’s heartfelt and mesmerizing, Joe Marson and the Satisfied Mind has created a gem of a record.

Currently based in Brooklyn, this is Joe’s latest release. Consisting of previous recordings as well as originals, it comes in the heels of the 2011 record, Post Cards From Siren City. The album enchants and provides a fresh take of the alternative scene. Perfect for lovers of musicians like Ben Harper and Jeff Buckley.

Comprised of cuts oozing with charm, the album is available in this special snippet from the artist himself. Although if you want to help him out, you can purchase the entire record over at iTunes .

A few standout tracks to watch out for include My Luck Stays the Same; Joe’s strong and expressive vocals as well as his deft guitar skills transform the cut into a genuine blues, alternative rock number that’s worthy of a praise.

Someday Soon is another lovely single that’s worth noting of. Mixing blues and acoustic guitars along with very reflective lyrics. It builds up and soars nicely as the track rolls along. Love Left in Me as well as Leave on, Leave the Band are two other tracks to put on your playlist.

Joe Marson has played different types of music from hip hop to jazz and has traveled across the US with his music. With his 4 piece crew, together they create a sound that’s rich and revealing. Each one is filled with beautiful intensity and soul that reaches out.

Like much of Jeff Buckley’s pieces, it’s the kind of music you listen to several times and each time it sinks in; making the listener love it more and more. Take a listen. You won’t regret it.

Marian Mereba: Room For Living EP

Simple and stripped down, Room For Living EP is a refreshing record. Thanks to its honesty and rawness, Marian Mereba manages to communicate what’s most important when it comes to her sound: her voice and music.

Newcomer Marian Mereba is an Atlanta-based singer that has taken the underground Atlanta scene by storm. Ask around several of the local artists and they’ve probably worked with her or know about her.

Marian is an independent artist who relies on word of mouth to spread the word about her sound. Room For Living EP is her debut EP and comes with 10 tracks all released in February 2013.

With several tracks in tow, this is an unusually long EP and more like a full debut record. Room for Living EP opens with Rolling Stoner; a smooth, mesmerizing cut that’s coupled with spoken words. It features a beautiful jazz, trippy feel that allures and intrigues the senses.

It’s followed by the equally somber, Go To London. A beautiful and slow indie folk piece that’s accompanied by a catchy chorus. In fact, I won’t be surprised if you’d be humming this after you hear it several times. Meanwhile, Marian offers an acoustic, guitar infused number in the final track, Blue for Mr. Green.

Music like this deserves an entire relaxing afternoon to go with it. The entire record is laden with soft tracks that evoke emotion and soul. Marian’s voice adds a depth that stirs the insides and makes you want to listen for a long while.

In need of a new sound? Here’s another refreshing treat for those thirsty ears. Featuring a hefty set of 14 tracks, The Pato Collection by Pato Margetic will surely ignite your weary souls.

Hailing form Detroit, Michigan, Pato Margetic has the full package�looks and undeniable musical talent. Aside from being a singer, guitarist, and musician, Pato has also been selected by Cosmopolitan magazines as Michigan’s 2012 Bachelor of the Year.

As stated in his website, The Pato Collection delivers a story of heartbereak, struggle, and endurance in a place where hope seems lost; all while fighting to make dreams come true.

Purple Hearts opens up with a killer combo of pop and soul. Rhythmic beats from the guitar guarantee some hand clapping while Pato’s controlled yet powerful vocals sail smoothly throughout the song.

Following with some RnB goodness, Fall Apart serves a combination of steady energetic beats and empowering lyrics. Blood Sweat and Tears, on the other hand, features Pato’s impeccable talent as acoustic strings and stripped-down arrangement calms the ears.

Another acoustic ensemble, The One You Love is a saccharine piece perfect for easy-listening. Bonus track Heart of a Lion wraps up the album with clean vocals, groove, and edge.

Micah Freeman: The Timepiece

A hip hop concept album, The Timepiece by Micah Freeman takes you on a musical journey through several different decades of music. You’ll hear a bit of 80s funk and the more raw 90s hip hop sound in here.

This is the first album for the Baltimore native. It’s done in collaboration with The DJBooth and is a solid hip hop/pop record that honestly brings to mind swagger similar to that of Pharrell and his time in N.E.R.D as well as Kid Cudi.

The Timepiece is offered as a free digital album in exchange for your email. It’s a great bargain, considering you’re getting so much in the deal.

Freeman plays a time traveler in this one. The concept freely allows him to explore the many facets of� hip hop music during its early days (you know, the ones where it wasn’t exactly shameful to wear bright colored clothes and not include a single cuss in the lyrics?) up to the more futuristic, electronic infused sounds.

The good news is that for the most part, Freeman is quite successful in the endeavor. He puts together a good story for listeners while keeping seriously fun and catchy hooks in between.

Catch You and See Clear, are defined by a nice 80s pop influence. If you’re old enough, you’d love it simply because it sounds like you’ve been listening to it forever. The intermission, A Time Traveler’s Manifesto: The Descension is an instrumental epic piece that brings to mind equal parts Vader in Star Wars and Tim Burton style chimes.� Much of the latter half of the album incorporates a slightly futuristic and very danceable vibe.

Personally, I like this one. I don’t have any complaints about it and in fact, it’s something I wouldn’t mind listening to for a good while. You can even leave it playing and chances are you’d probably enjoy it too. Give it a listen and grab the download if you like it.

BJ Block & Dawn Pemberton: II

Simply titled, II; BJ Block and Dawn Pemberton’s second collaboration bears the same uplifting positive emotion and meaningful lyrics that has made their first effort, The Land of Make Believe, a huge success.

They’ve continued the tradition of releasing their albums free and everybody is getting a chance to hear it first via Frostwire. Containing eight soulful tracks, it bears the familiar sound of jazz, funk, R&B and gospel that has become a trademark for the feel-good, positive and chill vibe of their resonates with.

After a short introduction, the record opens with Ready Or Not. It lays solid ground for the album by providing a smooth r&b groove and highlighting Dawn’s mesmerizing vocal work. BJ’s smooth guitars along with the groovy bass synch-in nicely adding a jazzy atmosphere that transports a calmness to every fiber of your body as you listen om. It’s a perfect combination that only these two talented musicians can pull off.

Expect to hear more of this combo as you cycle through the record. Sometimes, for instance, slows down the tempo just right. If you ever need that perfect love song to play as you dance with your partner or have that candlelit dinner, this is the song to put on. If you’re in the mood for dancing, Without A Doubt and What Comes Naturally will help you get your groove on.

As the album winds down, gospel inspired We Cry and Falling Into You closes on a positive note. Providing uplifting lyrical inspiration as well as amazing instrument work.

Converging in a glorious path, BJ Block and Dawn Pemberton have created a special record that communicates beauty, honesty, positivity and raw emotions. It is mesmerizing and will be an absolute delight to listen to no matter what time of the day or no matter what occasion.

BJ Block is a classically trained musician and has been in love with the craft since he was 15. He used to play and tour for acoustic rock band The Ernest Goodlife Band. Meanwhile, Dawn Pemberton also had an early start in her love for sound. She changed course from piano playing to explore and hone her wonderful voice; singing gospel, jazz, R&B and funk. She is a considered a prominent figure in the Vancouver scene with more than 30 years experience under her belt singing and playing on over 35 recordings.

The success of “Make Believe” inspired BJ and Dawn to keep creating – “II” is fun funded entirely through Kickstarter! Beach Party: Beach Party EP

Beach Party is a South-African band serving us music that rides the waves of the oceans and strikes hard like the heat of the sun. The group was conceived at the end of the Hippie love era, where blues, rock and roll, soul, and jazz scattered all over. It was through their artistic simulation, group interplay, and imagination which enabled them to incorporate mythology and mysticism into their inimitable style and concept.

Beach Party EP is a seven track compilation of music from the coast with subjects way beyond the sun and the sea. Water is a sprawling composition with the loftiest of intentions. It is both wisecracking and tenderhearted. Positive vibrations will unfailingly befall on you as you listen to this two minute and a half soundtrack.

Last Train is a little bit corny and cliche but still impossible to hate for its boatload of playground charm. While Girls has made to be an existential chill-out record that feels substantial even edgy but without feeling forced.

Over This opens the set with a funky, strummy acoustic-guitar riff, adding pieces one by one, as if teasing the senses slowly and carefully. And Or Fin wraps it up by playing electric guitar chords with a loose drum pattern.

The album�s overall groove is delicious and probably one of the most tuneful jam in the beach scene. The easy rolling pleasures are tough to deny and the flavorful melodies will shimmy you off into an island sunset.
