For me it is art. And it is good to see that there are other people out there who think the same way. The League of Moveable Type came to life thanks to two designers, Caroline and Micah, to combat the limitations and raise the standards of the web. It features a collection of some of the highest-quality of typefaces I came across online in a very long time. As a user you are more than welcome to contribute, browse, download, and use the chosen typefaces for free as all of them are subject to SIL's Open Font License (which means that you are allowed to use the fonts for either personal or commercial purposes as long as you give a credit to its original creator).

The founders' manifesto makes its all clear. As designers who truly value good design they feel that it's the right time for the web to catch up to the standards of today's creative community. More recently Caroline and Micah discovered something called @font-face, an addition to user-friendly web styling that allows you to specify the location of your own font files instead of using the same old web-friendly typefaces. Furthermore, the website is there to offer you a selection of truly amazing fonts that you can easily download and use for any of your creations. Just another step in the needed revolution.

The League of Moveable Type understands that many people create typefaces for a living, and they should as many of the designs take time and plenty of skills. But as The League explains, the open-source type movement is not set against type foundries and designers.

We're not asking type designers and type foundries to sacrifice profit, we're asking them to contribute to a greater cause, to create a community where we not only have a high design standard for print and web alike, but also a community where we're able to share our creations, knowledge, and expertise with our peers and the world.

Some of the featured fonts include (click on the image to download):

It is in every website you visit, museum, street sign, product label, t-shirt, book, magazine, music album, even your makeup (if you wear one). Yes the world is getting creative and so can you. So whether you want to brush up on your skills, learn few new tricks, or start from the very beginning - the Internet is filled with great resources to help you out in your creative endeavors.

With nearly 800 free tutorials, prepared by top professionals in the field, on everything ranging from 2D and 3D design, animation, web, and new media - Computer Arts website is one of such resources.

Each tutorial comes with a zip file containing all of the supporting files and a step-by-step guidance that will help you complete the project. The projects themselves are designed not only to give you the basic foundation to use software such as Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash, InDesign, After Effects, and Blender, but also to help you learn a few very important tricks of trade. There is everything on creating amazing vector graphics, high end illustrations, working with and designing your own fonts, enhancing traditional ink digitally, working in Cinema 4D, logo design, patterns, retouching and enhancing photographs, improving your character animation, creating vinyl decals for interior design, creating animated DVD menus, and even screen printing at home, just to name few.

Among the traditional computer based projects, however, some of the tutorials go even further and give you advice on how to survive and succeed as a designer.
Every now and than Computer Arts releases a tutorial about topics as diverse as self-promotion on a budget, creating an identity for a company, building a custom WordPress theme, how to prepare style guide and branding materials for your next movie blockbuster, ins and outs of magazine layout, working with clients, project management, and dealing with agents.

The website also offers reviews of the latest software and hardware, articles, gallery, and a list of up-and-coming competitions if you are ready for the challenge.

Computer Arts is owned by Future Publishing Limited from United Kingdom, which publishes over 100 specialty magazines worldwide including 3D World, MacFormat, and Computer Art Projects.

The tutorial we linked to above is entitled "Raster and vector collide". As the Computer Arts writes, "this tutorial we show you how to bring together both vector and raster elements to create a seamless piece that sits well in both worlds."

Here's a short list of all the hand-picked fonts in this collection, courtesy of & compiled by WebDesignDev:

Easy Street EPS - exquisite looking capital letters with simple small letters

Dirty English - very grudgy looking, yet formal; can be perfect for all those old/traditional looking graphic designs that you do

Comm Script TT - somewhat similar to Easy Street EPS, but less details and swirls with the capital letters

Beautiful ES - the perfect balance of swirls and formality in this beautiful script calligraphy

Cygnet Round - it looks just like the handwriting of a really careful lady, don't you think?

Chopin Script - perhaps you recognize this one as the font used in the famous Chopin vodka; it tastes yummy, though.

Freebooter Script - must love this one; looks quite compact, not too strong, and yet not too formal

Champignon - this font is perhaps one of the most formal looking; would look great on invitations with its intricate capitals and smaller lower caps.

Mutlu - if you seriously love swirls and little flourishes all over your capitals and small letters, then this is for you

Motter Fem D - bold and strong; it reminds you of the Austin Power font, too.

Marcelle Script - a little grudge there and here, and this can be a great font for old parchments

Old Script - intricate capital letters which reminds you of the Renaissance period

Porcelain - also a nice piece of calligraphy, with some spaces in between the curves of the letters

Rechtman - a font which looks as if it has a shadow on the side

Quigley Wiggly - strong and attention-grabbing; perfect for those who love to make a statement

Zothique Demo - if you can write like this, then I swear that your love letters would look even more romantic

Windsong - a personal favorite; this font is somewhat like a lady writing love letters to the writer of Zothique Demo

Amazone BT - a formal looking script which isn't too bold

NK41c_D - strong capitals, but without too many flourishes

Quilline Script - another personal favorite; a feminine-looking script with just the right swirls

Dirty and Classic - for lovers of ink and old parchment papers, think about excessive ink on the writer's feather pen

Jellyka Castle's Queen - I personally forgot where I saw this font, but it made me think of some evil stepmother when I saw it
