Cool Reader is a free and powerful e-book reader for Android. Created by Vadim Lopatin it offers full support for many popular formats like epub, non-DRM mobi, rtf, txt, doc chm, html and many others. In addition to this the reader allows you to read content in either scroll or page view.

Either view you choose will display the text and clearly, and it’s nice to see that when you turn the page there is a flipping animation. As you might expect from a quality ebook reader, Cool Reader comes with a text search function that makes it easy for you to find specific passages in the book you are reading.

You can also use its bookmark function to go back to the part that you were just reading. There is also a table of contents so you can see the book at a glance.

Social and chat apps are pretty common, but WeChat from Tencent Technology has many features that set it apart from the rest. With this app all your communication tools like messages, images and video calls are stored in one place, and all you need to do is create a user ID and you are set to go. The interface is quite intuitive so it’s easy to figure out what to do, and there are no ads too.

Just like other chat apps, you need to enter your phone number and provide your address book during the configuration. At the bottom of the WeChat screen are four buttons, Settings, Social, Contacts and Chat, all of which are self explanatory.

At the Chat screen you will see a list of your most recent conversations. Tap the Magic Wand at the right to start a new chat and you’re set. Another nice feature of WeChat is you can move it from your iOS to the PC via QR code scanning. Meanwhile the Social button allows you to find other WeChat users or go through your contacts.

If you want to change the configuration, go to Settings. There you will be able to adjust the preferences concerning privacy, update your profile and many other aspects of the app. While there are lot of things that you can change, WeChat’s simple interface makes it a breeze.

However, this “sketch” is beautiful and well polished. It doesn’t matter if you can only draw stick figures; with this program you’ll end up with professional looking pencil drawings. All you have to do is select a picture stored on your phone gallery. Or you can take one with your camera. With a single click you’ll end up with a detailed looking sketch.

Even professional artists will get inspired with the results. Even if you’re not an artist, the results might just inspire you to become one. The program’s simplicity makes it suitable for anyone. When you load a picture, numerous options allow you to fine tune the result, including color and original mode. Once you are satisfied with the results, you can save it.

That is basically all that Pencil Sketch does, but it is good at it. The program is compact so it is quick to download. Installation is painless, and of course it is free. Flipboard is your virtual news magazine for the iOS and Android. Created by Flipboard Inc, the app allows you to create a custom magazine. From it you can browse tweets, get Facebook newsfeeds, YouTube videos and many more.

Once you install Flipboard, you’ll see boxes on the main page. To put contents on each box, just tap it. The Content Guide will appear showing you categories like Tech, Food & Design, Business, Arts and more. There are suggestions available for popular online news magazines, sports columnists’ tweets and more. Just tap the Add button to include it.

A content box can be opened by tapping. At the main page are the top story and a couple others. To read more, flip the pages. Stories can be shared in Twitter, LinkedIn or Facebook. Flipboard is very efficient in offering contents that you probably won’t need to go to the actual sites. Aside from news, you get to see photos, friends’ status updates and update your own status. All of these are presented in a beautiful interface.

Content is updated on a regular basis. You’ll be able to see new content and images every time you open the app. There are nine boxes on the first screen and the second can hold a dozen. The app allows you to view contents in various ways. The web page can be displayed, or it can be an RSS feed or HTML 5-powered Flipboard Pages. The latter is for sites partnered with the company.

Flipboard also has a category for audio featuring TWiT, Slate Internet Radio and CMJ Network. Simply tap the + icon to add a feed.

Springpad by Spring Partners is a nifty little app that lets you save any file you want anytime. The latest version of the app sports a simpler interface and the app has been tweaked so it runs faster on the Android and iOS. While there are many apps that let you save files, few are as intuitive as this.

Springpad for instance, lets you save your recipes and then arrange the ingredients so you have a ready-made list, and if you�re a movie buff, it will let you know when your selection goes up on Netflix. In fact, the app is flexible enough that it can save videos, activities, maps, hotels, diners etc, so it can also double up as a vacation planner.

With Springpad, you can bookmark favorite sites, and you can also create your own to-do list via its handy alerts, perfect if you got our hands full with work. While it works fine as a solo app, there are also collaborative features so you can share tasks, videos, notes and links with friends.

Another nice feature of Springpad is that you can use it show images even with captions, and just like other clipboard style apps you can invite your friends to share their favorite drinks and food.

Saving is also pretty easy here; not only can you clip and save articles, but you can record a memo, take pictures and save them instantly. Springpad also has an extensive search feature so you can find whatever you need.

Talking Ginger�from Out Fit 7 Ltd.�is a virtual pet app for the Android and iOS, and your objective here is to take care of Ginger the kitten. That means putting him to bed on time, talking to him and helping him with other tasks like shows, potty, brushing his teeth and so on. It�s really a cute app and while it�s aimed at kids, even adults will fall in love with this kitten.

After you download and install the game you have the option to get notifications from Ginger and whether to turn on Child or Regular Mode. It�s a good idea to turn the notifications on as you will get a free toothpaste. Once the game has been installed, you can teach Ginger potty training and don�t forget to give him a shower and then dry him off. You can talk to Ginger and you�ll hear him repeat your hellos in a cute small voice.

Teaching Ginger to brush his teeth isn�t that hard, but if you really want to keep things simple, turn on Child Mode. Remember, however, that you�re not limited to just caring for the kitten, though because the game has a bunch of extra features like videos, puzzles, many of which comes from other users.

One of the nice things about Ginger is that he mimics anything that he hears and it isn�t just limited to your voice, so don�t be surprised if you hear Ginger mimicking your keyboard and also make funny faces. In other words, Talking Ginger is a nice clean game for kids and the young at heart.

Maxthon is not as well known as the other browsers, but it actually has enough features to match them. A product of Maxthon International, it has two display modes; Retro and Ultra. Retro mode is for old websites created with legacy tools. Ultra Mode is for the latest websites. The browser uses the appropriate mode so pages display faster.

There are a bunch of other extras included: ad and pop-up blockers, multisearch, autofill and drag and drop. You can do screen captures, translate languages, get feeds and take notes.

The browser installs quickly. The tabbed interface is similar to those of other browsers. What sets it apart are the aforementioned toolbar apps. You can also customize the toolbars so only your favorite functions appear.

Bookmarks from other web browsers can be imported as HTML. Its Favorites menu will look familiar to you.

Validated websites have a Safe icon. You can find out more info by clicking the icon. Its Ad Hunter feature works very well to stop pop-ups from appearing. An icon makes it easy to toggle it on or off. There is even a button to silence websites that play music or sounds when they load. This is a really cool feature.

But Maxthon�s best feature is the dual mode. The square on the address bar changes from yellow to blue to indicate which mode / renderer is active. You can switch between the two modes manually. What becomes obvious is the speed difference when using the modes. It�s a unique feature that isn�t found yet on any other browser. Speed, reliability and support for numerous add-ons make this worth a try.

Bottle Shoot is all about shooting as many bottles as you can in the fixed amount of time. The game becomes tougher as it keeps progressing. There is also a number of bonus levels in which you can break as many bottles without any obstacle in sight.

Bottle Shoot is developed by Droid Hermes, they have had quite a run on Google Play, but seem to have struck the right cord with Bottle Shoot.

The graphics of the game are quite crisp, if not great, and the sound effects are close to the shattering effect we would hear in real-life. Levels pass by in a jiffy and keep increasing in pace as the clock ticks. I particulalry loved the scoring system, under which, if the player flings the nunchuck on the same bottle or put it to waste, then the combo ends right there. This little addition makes sure that the player have a better presence of mind in-game the next time.

The biggest drawback about the game, even though it is highly addictive, is the fact that you ultimately tend to get bored for there isn�t much to do other than breaking bottles. Nothing that would bring about excitement as the levels progress. There is a bomb and a shield that seldom appears that prevents you from being able to take a proper aim at the bottles but that just is not good enough in the long run.

Overall, the game serves its purpose as a casual time-killer. There is nothing great to write about it, but will become a favorite during commutes or a quick 5-min break.
