Maxthon is not as well known as the other browsers, but it actually has enough features to match them. A product of Maxthon International, it has two display modes; Retro and Ultra. Retro mode is for old websites created with legacy tools. Ultra Mode is for the latest websites. The browser uses the appropriate mode so pages display faster.

There are a bunch of other extras included: ad and pop-up blockers, multisearch, autofill and drag and drop. You can do screen captures, translate languages, get feeds and take notes.

The browser installs quickly. The tabbed interface is similar to those of other browsers. What sets it apart are the aforementioned toolbar apps. You can also customize the toolbars so only your favorite functions appear.

Bookmarks from other web browsers can be imported as HTML. Its Favorites menu will look familiar to you.

Validated websites have a Safe icon. You can find out more info by clicking the icon. Its Ad Hunter feature works very well to stop pop-ups from appearing. An icon makes it easy to toggle it on or off. There is even a button to silence websites that play music or sounds when they load. This is a really cool feature.

But Maxthon�s best feature is the dual mode. The square on the address bar changes from yellow to blue to indicate which mode / renderer is active. You can switch between the two modes manually. What becomes obvious is the speed difference when using the modes. It�s a unique feature that isn�t found yet on any other browser. Do Not Track Plus (DNT+) is a browser add-on. The fact is that social networks and ad companies monitor what you are doing on the Internet; where you go, for how long and how often. With DNT+, you are protected and can browse in private.

Created by Abine the Online Privacy Company, DNT+ blocks any tracking software or method used without affecting websites or the way you surf. The utility was originally designed for Firefox, but it now supports Google Chrome, IE and Safari. An Opera version is now being developed.

Once the add-on is installed, site trackers and ads will be prevented from tracking your web activities. This will be turned off only if you change the settings. In most sites, DNT+ rebuilds buttons so your social activities are not affected. The only difference is your privacy is protected. It doesn’t matter where you go around the Web; DNT+ will follow and protect you.

The interface is clean, with the on/off button very easy to spot. Despite blocking trackers, there is no perceptible lag time when loading sites.

After you install DNT+, it appears as a button on the toolbar. It displays the tracking blocks on the site you are at. You might be surprised at how many trackers DNT+ blocks on your favorite sites. When you click the button, the trackers appear. They are arranged in three groups: companies, networks and social buttons.

StayFocusd is a Google extension designed to do one thing: prevent you from wasting time when working. Once you install it in Chrome, you won’t have a chance to procrastinate. This extension is great for limiting the time you spend on a website.

Published by Transfusion Media, the program is very intuitive and can be customized to make Web surfing guidelines to suit your preferences.

Once you install StayFocusd, its icon will appear on Chrome’s address bar at the right. Go to the site that you want to block. When you’re there, click the icon and choose “block entire page”. Note: you need to set the time length allowance for your viewing before the blocking takes effect. This can be found in the settings link. The icon will turn red to confirm your settings. Clicking this will show a timer counting until the block kicks in.

Users can determine when the utility will be reset. You can specify when the tool will turn off (days, hours, etc). You can block the entire site or leave subpages available. Just go to the Settings link to decide which sites will be blocked or allowed. There is a tab where you can configure the program even more.

The Nuclear option will block the entire Internet. You’ll only be able to access it after the time limit you set expires. Or you can just block every website except the one related to your work.

StayFocusd is very effective. Once you block a site, there is no way to access it until the time limit is up. You cannot reverse the Nuclear option if you activate it.
