NeoOffice is a full featured free office suite. The main applications are the Writer word processor; Base, the database component; Draw, for creating graphics; Impress (presentation) and Calc, for making spreadsheets. Each application is feature packed. Calc has many features comparable to commercial products. You can add formulas and use basic and advanced functions. Some of its more impressive features are the Intelligent Sum Button, Natural Language formulas and Advanced DataPilot technology. Writer has all the features you would expect from full-featured word processors like formatting, bibliographical references and indexing. You can create tables of contents and many more.

Impress includes transitions, drawing tools, animation and other special effects. You also have access to clip art and it has support for popular image formats. NeoOffice supports Mac OS X text highlighting, grammar checking and command-clicking on a window title bar. You can also import images from cameras and scanners. You will also see that menus remain available even if you don�t open documents.

Other features include native floating tool windows and support for media browser and Mac OS X services. NeoOffice has increased its font support with each succeeding release. The launch menu allows you to open Writer, Impress or Calc. Writer, Calc and Impress are the main applications, but the Draw and Base applications are also feature rich. Draw allows you to make sketches and diagrams. It has Bezier curves and you can turn objects in three dimensions. Base is a powerful application with an HSQL database engine. When it comes to features, NeoOffice isn�t lacking and is very comparable to OpenOffice and Microsoft Office. It is not just free, but power packed.

LibreOffice published by the Document Foundation is a complete free office suite. It may not be as popular as other high priced office suites, but in terms of features it can compete very well. The best part is that it is completely free.

When you start the program, a menu will appear. This allows you to select what program to use. The choices are Writer, Math, Impress, Draw, Base and Calc. Impress is a presentation program while Base is used for database integration.

Longtime users of Microsoft Office will be familiar with the interface, so you won’t have to worry about groping your way around. Writer is its word processor and comes with many formatting features. Bear in mind that files are saved with an .odt extension. This format isn’t recognized by MS Word, but LibreOffice lets you save files in .doc format. You can then open the file in Word.

Calc is a spreadsheet program. You can make charts, graphing functions and a wide array of analysis tools. Math is an equation editor that displays methodical, chemical and scientific equations.

Base offers complete support for data administration. Queries from Microsoft Access, PostgreSQL or MySQL can be imported into Base. Impress offers you a quick way to make flashy presentations. The Draw program is for creating sketches and diagrams. All the programs have links to the publisher’s website in case you need support.

LibreOffice is also noteworthy for being easy to install. Uninstalling is painless too. Because development is open, it is one of the most rigorously tested suites anywhere. Any bugs are easily spotted and fixed.

LibreOffice has separate versions for Windows 2000/XP/Vista/7, the MAC and Linux. All versions are free to download and use.

The program itself is a few years old but it still works great and provides a simple way to access all your media without having to frantically search for them in your random folders. From software, movies, music or books, Data Crow easily retrieves these and places them in a neat and accessible spot. The only thing you really have to do is enter the name or title of the item you want cataloged and the program does the work by searching online for all the info. For movies or books, the program searches for info in places like Amazon and IMDB. When it comes to music files, Data Crow often just uses the tags already embedded onto the files.

The interface is pretty basic and contains all of the features you need. The left portion of the screen provides you with the different categories of media you have. On the center as well as the right portion you’ll find all of the information pertaining to a specific media. You can add as well as manage the information by using the toolbar on the upper part of the screen. You’ll also find the search online option right here.

Although the program does work well, it runs in a Java platform which has lead to several bugs here and there. In spite of this, Data Crow manages to get the job done without much complaint. Once you become familiar with the interface, it’s a breeze to use and performs an exceptional job.

Dropbox is all about file sharing and it comes with an extra 2GB (about the space of a USB drive) of free space that you can access from your phone or from other computers.

Dropbox is revolutionizing the way we work, play and travel. A colleague, client or friend across the globe can ‘drop’ a file in your box, essentially onto your computer. You upload or open as if it’s saved on your own computer and a way you go.

With Dropbox you can access your files from their website, from the software you’ve saved on your computer or from your smartphone. When something suddenly comes up and you want to open a file or give someone else a document, you can use your phone or any computer with Internet to drop it into their Dropbox on their computer – providing they have a Dropbox too.

It’s great for travelers to save and back-up their pictures online without carrying an USB (or even a computer if you can use a hotel or hostel’s computers). You don’t have to worry about carrying or losing memory sticks, USB drives or even a laptop.

Photographers, writers, journalists, musicians or many kinds of freelance and creative types can also back-up their work on the road, and at the same time when an employer’s wants to work, they just need to log on and drop it to the required file.

The 2GB will give you heaps of photo, audio and file space, but video clips would have to be super short. Online file sharing is the future and its potential uses are unlimited.

There are only small drawbacks. On a Netbook or smaller device it can upload and download pretty slowly but it works and it worth the advantages of traveling light.

You need a new email and a new hard drive for each Dropbox so it’s not convenient as a long term archive to replace existing system when you fill your 2GB. However, it would make a great short term archive.
