So for all the Know-It-All fans here is the official Khan app for the iPad, one of the best educational offering till date to hit the iOS scene.

Developed by the Khan Academy team, timely volunteers and part-time contributors, the app is a class apart and surely does what only can leave the users imagination in awe.

If you are puzzled about what Khan Academy can do, well, it can do almost anything. The app can easily educate users on a vast variety of topics, which range from K-12 math to algebra, biology to chemistry, humanities to finance. As the users knowledge of topics might get exhausted, the app will keep churning out the best answers and solution.

The best part of the app, however, is that all the basic of every topic you might need are covered. So, if you are a newbie to the world of algebra and basics is what you need to brush-up on, then this app is the solution to all your questions. One could say that the app has three principles at its core 1) Discover, 2) Learn Fundamentals and 3) Master.

An iPad exclusive, the entire app looks gorgeous and very detailed on the large high-resolution screen. The whole user-interface is sleek, unique, and very easy to go about it. Khan Academy has a library of over 2700 videos for learning purposes, covering a range of topics. Users will be pleased to note that they can select individual videos or an entire playlist to watch it offline. A really big boon for people on Wi-Fi only iPad models.

Those with more of a competitive strike in them will be smiling when they notice the achievements section within the app. Once a user log-in with their Khan Academy user account, they get credit for watching videos and can track their progress over time. The developers plan to integrate exercises very soon with the next update.

Overall, the app is one-of-the-finest educational apps available on the iOS platform. Moreover, the app is not targeted at just one group of specific users, it is more universal in approach and does what it says. It deserves a 5-out-of-5 rating for sure.

The application comes with some serious real-time updates of the present disaster happenings and allows for additional hazard information to be viewed and shared with friends and family.

Developed by Pacific Disaster Center, the app is a masterpiece and will really keep people more vigilant and aware. It is not only accurate, but the sense of urgency is very well integrated and takes the app to the next level.

The accuracy of the app cannot be questioned as the data is collected from authorative sources, with 'Active Hazard" updates being refereed to a pool of current and real-time incidents. The greatest part about the app are the legends which represents a particular hazard. So, if an area has been hit by an earthquake, the app places a yellow triangle in that place in the Map view. There is a total of 12 legends with each color representing a particular hazard class.

Shifting to the Alerts tab, the app shows a detailed, statistical view of all the natural disaster occurrences around the world; with complete information, such as, level of calamity - advisory, warning, and moderate, time of disaster, type of disaster, date, origin, and affected places. Through this, users also have the option to seek more information on a particular event.

Disaster Alert includes the following major natural disasters: hurricane, drought, earthquake, flood, marine, storm, tsunami and volcano. These disasters are covered under Global happenings. Alerts concerning National Weather Service High Surf, National Weather Service High Wind and National Weather Service High Flood are only covered for the Hawaii region as of now.

The app comes equipped with a very clean and detailed interface and only enhances the already existing real-time updates. Moreover, Disaster Alert aims at creating disaster management awareness among people who live in the disaster prone zones. Overall, a must-have app for every individual who loves being updated and interested in reducing the adversity of natural calamities. Who knows, soon the Apple iPad might just become the best disaster information tool around.

User interface of the app is slick and very neat with no shortcomings whatsoever. Many will find the Facebook connect a boon for easy and quick sharing of images, videos, links and other NASA content without any delays. There is also a native iPad app called NASA HD with full support for the 9.7-inch display.

Anyone and everyone who is interested in science, and has the urge to explore should get this app without a second thought. The app has been developed by NASA Ames divison, so the quality is assured.

Developed by Rosling software does more than simply display the data - it brings them to life! The animations transform provided statistics into moving bubbles and flowing curves that make development and global trends (or any other set of data you wish to visualize) clear, intuitive, and even playful. So make sure you get your copy, wow your co-workers/professors, and get inspired.

Hans Rosling is a great mind who started his career (or rather careers) as a physician working on tracking a rare paralytic disease in rural Africa. After co-founding Médecins sans Frontièrs (Doctors without Borders) in Sweden, writing a book, and continuing as a professor at the Karolinska Institut in Stockholm, he than co-founded (together with his son and daughter-in-law) a nonprofit called Gapminder.

Soon Gapminder became a venture - a modern "museum" on the Internet - promoting sustainable global development and achievement of the United Nations Millennium Development Goals. It has been also working on a range of projects including some collaborations with universities, UN organizations, and public agencies.

Gapminder software in reality started under the name of Trendalyzer, which sought to unveil the beauty of statistical time series by converting boring numbers into enjoyable, animated and interactive graphics. However, the initial software was quickly purchased by Google after its founders met with Hans Rosling at TED in 2006.

Today Gapminder is giving us a chance to get inspired through fact-based world view - tonnes of data that before many of us would never even thought of looking at. The desktop application lets you use the graphs even when you are offline - perfect for all the presentations you might encounter in the future. So be sure to take a look at the video below, press that download button, and head to TED to see some inspiring talks by the founder.

Make sure to visit the website as well, as it is a great resource if you are an educator trying to find examples of how the software is used in classrooms, want to take a closer look at the available for download through the non-profit data-sets, or simply learn more about the project and it's founders.

Such algorithms are used for problems where you don't know how to find a good solution, but if shown a candidate solution, you can give it a grade. " .

Essentials of Metaheuristics is an easy to understand book that features lecture notes about metaheuristic algorithms. Written by Sean Luke, the book is available as a free PDF download and intended for helping out undergraduate students gain a better insight about the subject.

Sean Luke is an Associate Professor for the Department of Computer Science at George Mason University in Virginia. He wrote the book specifically for students, non-professionals, practitioners and non-experts. The book actually consists of lecture notes, so don't expect anything too heavy. They are meant as a guide to helping people interested in the subject to gain further insight.

Much of the content is kept light and simple examples are provided so that they can be easily understood. Best of all, the chapters can be printed and tackled separately depending on the reader's needs. This makes it so much easier to study and learn from the material.

Even though the average Joe might not fully understand or even care about Metaheuristics, this is definitely one book that's helpful for those who are into the subject.
Need something to help you understand all those complicated math equations in a breeze? Octave can help you out in that department. If you think that MatLab is awesome and want a similar type of software minus the dent in your pocket, Octave is your man.

The program is the open source version of the commercial math program, MatLab. Despite being offered absolutely free, Octave still manages to stand up to its expensive counterpart. It provides an easy way for you to solve linear and non-linear mathematical problems. The program also works together with its paid counterpart so using it is a breeze if you are already familiar with the former.

Solving math problems has just become so much easier with this cool new program. Check it out.

Octave can help you out in that department. If you think that MatLab is awesome and want a similar type of software minus the dent in your pocket, Octave is your man.

The program is the open source version of the commercial math program, MatLab. Octave easily manages to stand up to its expensive commercial counterpart. It provides an easy way for you to solve linear and non-linear mathematical problems. The program also works together with its paid counterpart so using it is a breeze if you are already familiar with the former.

The software is designed particularly for professionals although it works great even for those looking to answer a simple equation. Creation of the program started back in 1988 and was originally a part of a plan for a chemical reactor. It wasn't until a couple of years later though when the actual program was finally developed and version 1.0 was released in 1994. It was named after a teacher from Oregon State University named, Octave Levenspiel, thanks to his amazing ability of solving quick mathematical equations.

Octave is capable of solving high-level mathematical equations. It has the capacity to work on linear algebra equations, get the roots of non-linear problems, add functions, change polynomials, differential-algebraic equations and so much more. Mere mortals might stand in awe of this program and how fast it can churn out solutions to even the most complicated math problems.

My only beef is that with all of its wonderful capacity, you can almost expect that it's going to take a toll on your disk space. True enough, it does. Only very selected computers can bear the brunt of this supercomputing software. It can also be very complicated to master for someone who is unfamiliar with MatLab.

Although it is a wonderful program to have, it does take somewhat of a special skill to understand and work on it. Then again, who doesn't need special skills to solve problematic math equations?
