However, this “sketch” is beautiful and well polished. It doesn’t matter if you can only draw stick figures; with this program you’ll end up with professional looking pencil drawings. All you have to do is select a picture stored on your phone gallery. Or you can take one with your camera. With a single click you’ll end up with a detailed looking sketch.

Even professional artists will get inspired with the results. Even if you’re not an artist, the results might just inspire you to become one. The program’s simplicity makes it suitable for anyone. When you load a picture, numerous options allow you to fine tune the result, including color and original mode. Once you are satisfied with the results, you can save it.

That is basically all that Pencil Sketch does, but it is good at it. The program is compact so it is quick to download. Installation is painless, and of course it is free. The nice thing about Pencil Sketch is that it works very smoothly. It doesn’t matter how complicated an image is; the app will produce a detailed sketch.

Flipboard

Flipboard is your virtual news magazine for the iOS and Android. Created by Flipboard Inc, the app allows you to create a custom magazine. From it you can browse tweets, get Facebook newsfeeds, YouTube videos and many more.

Once you install Flipboard, you’ll see boxes on the main page. To put contents on each box, just tap it. The Content Guide will appear showing you categories like Tech, Food & Design, Business, Arts and more. There are suggestions available for popular online news magazines, sports columnists’ tweets and more. Just tap the Add button to include it.

A content box can be opened by tapping. At the main page are the top story and a couple others. To read more, flip the pages. Stories can be shared in Twitter, LinkedIn or Facebook. Flipboard is very efficient in offering contents that you probably won’t need to go to the actual sites. Aside from news, you get to see photos, friends’ status updates and update your own status. All of these are presented in a beautiful interface.

Content is updated on a regular basis. You’ll be able to see new content and images every time you open the app. There are nine boxes on the first screen and the second can hold a dozen. The app allows you to view contents in various ways. The web page can be displayed, or it can be an RSS feed or HTML 5-powered Flipboard Pages. The latter is for sites partnered with the company.

Flipboard also has a category for audio featuring TWiT, Slate Internet Radio and CMJ Network. Simply tap the + icon to add a feed.

Remote for the iPad is a free program from Apple that makes it easy to manage iTunes, your iPad as well as iPhone. With iTunes you will always be in sync, and the latest version of the program makes it easier than ever to manage your media library. You can also use the app to add new songs and listen to them on your PC, Mac or Apple TV.

Remote makes it a breeze to selected songs, playlists and albums, and you can also now use it to play songs on a playlist from iCloud. It�s also easy to learn, and with it you can change playacts or browse your collection anyplace in your home. With Remote you can control your gadgets with your finger and it works very efficiently too. Thanks to control shared libraries, syncing and looking for specific files become less complicated.

With Remote you can control the volume of speakers, use iTunes to transmit music to AirPlay speakers and update iTunes too. The app also lets you view artwork from albums, movies and TV shows, and of course it has all the basic playback functions you�d expect like volume adjustment, shuffle, play, pause, rewind, fast forward and a few more. If you want you can add new songs to your device and hear them being played automatically or have it pick up where you left off.

Remote is really an all purpose device, giving you complete control not just over your Apple TV but other iOS devices, and it�s really convenient to use. Since it�s free you really have nothing to lose by trying it, and it can make iOS browsing and syncing a lot easier.

Bottle Shoot

Bottle Shoot is all about shooting as many bottles as you can in the fixed amount of time. The game becomes tougher as it keeps progressing. There is also a number of bonus levels in which you can break as many bottles without any obstacle in sight.

Bottle Shoot is developed by Droid Hermes, they have had quite a run on Google Play, but seem to have struck the right cord with Bottle Shoot.

The graphics of the game are quite crisp, if not great, and the sound effects are close to the shattering effect we would hear in real-life. Levels pass by in a jiffy and keep increasing in pace as the clock ticks. I particulalry loved the scoring system, under which, if the player flings the nunchuck on the same bottle or put it to waste, then the combo ends right there. This little addition makes sure that the player have a better presence of mind in-game the next time.

The biggest drawback about the game, even though it is highly addictive, is the fact that you ultimately tend to get bored for there isn�t much to do other than breaking bottles. Nothing that would bring about excitement as the levels progress. There is a bomb and a shield that seldom appears that prevents you from being able to take a proper aim at the bottles but that just is not good enough in the long run.

Overall, the game serves its purpose as a casual time-killer. There is nothing great to write about it, but will become a favorite during commutes or a quick 5-min break.

Paint programs today are powerful but often complicated and difficult for beginners. Doodle Buddy from Pinger is a suitable medium for budding and casual artists. When you start the app, it loads a blank canvas. The bottom deck contains all the painting and drawing tools.

To start painting on the iPad version, simply put your finger on the screen and move it around. Tap the Undo or Clear icons to make corrections. If you want to start over, tap the trash icon. You can erase an entire drawing by shaking your iPad.

There are a lot of paint and editing tools. Tap the icon that looks like a chalk. A menu will pop up: the tools include eraser, smudge, glitter, chalk and brush. You can modify the paint and ink color. Doodle Buddy is surprisingly accurate for a finger painting app. The smudge tool is very good at adding depth to your paintings.

Tapping the stamp icon allows you to use clip art: animals, bugs, smileys and many more. Small and larger versions of each clip art are available. Tap a clip art to select and tap again to place it in your canvas. Tap again on the canvas to paste numerous copies of the image.

Doodle Buddy�s Tic Tac Toe icon allows you to use backgrounds that have been pre-drawn. Finally, tap the picture icon to save your painting and tap the envelope icon to share your paintings via email.

In spite of its many features, Doodle Buddy is easy to use. The interface is very clear and the icons are well placed. It works best on the iPad due to the extra large screen.

As an open source video and music player, Miro has a lot in common with other free players. But it goes beyond what the usual freeware offers. Aside from managing audio and video, it also doubles as an audio/video shopping center.

Miro allows users to import their libraries from iTunes. There is support for Android syncing. If you are looking for the iTunes equivalent in Android devices, this is it. Aside from supporting all popular video and audio formats, you can download or subscribe to podcasts.

If you are using iTunes, Miro�s interface will be familiar. There is a section for managing music files, videos and other devices hooked up. If you want to buy or download something, Google Play and the AppStore are right there too. After you download a file, it�s just a few clicks away to sync them.

Also included on the left pane are your playlists, a video search tool, sources and podcasts. If you are playing videos, the playback controls will be at the bottom. Miro is also compatible with Kindle Fire. It also syncs with tablets. With this app, you can update all devices quickly.

For many people though, the biggest benefit is Miro�s ability to do different things. You don�t have to leave the program to buy or download. You can stay in and let it sync files as you manage them. You don�t need to install a YouTube downloader because the program can do it. If two Miro apps are on a network, you�ll be able to share music and videos.

Miro is cross-platform so it can run on Windows, Mac and Linux.

The information comes from users who post images of their favorite foods. This setup is different from other apps in that you get first hand info from real users and restaurant goers.

iHeartRadio is more than an online radio. It is a free, complete digital service from Clear Channel Management Services. There are over 1500 stations to choose from. You can search stations by format, zip or state. One of its nicest features is you can build a custom station based on songs or artists. You can also review your �likes� and history, read song lyrics and get information about the songwriter. Your favorite stations can be shared, including the ones you make.

iHeartRadio�s Account settings lets you return to the last setting you were in. Parents have the option of restricting access to objectionable content via Custom Radio. After you have �liked� iHeartRadio, the program will offer suggestions for the user.

You can listen to these or create a new station. Thanks to Facebook integration, you�ll be able to post comments about the songs being played on your custom station. You can also check out what your friends are listening to.

As can be expected, music genre choices are vast; rock, urban, country, pop, etc are all available. In the mobile version, you just press the �scan� button to browse stations. With your smartphone, creating custom stations is easy.

When you choose an artist, the station will pick other artists who sound just like them. Their catalog includes hundreds of thousands of artists and millions of songs. Its Discovery Tuner gives you control over the content.

Snowmix

Snowmix has many functions, but it is essentially a computer software that allows you to mix recorded and live video feeds. The program was developed by Peter Maersk-Moller and the Copenhagen Suborbitals StreamTeam. The project came about because existing Linux video encoders didn�t have the features the developers wanted, namely to combine several video streams and graphics, text and video overlaying.

This open source program supports limitless frame rates, geometries, and video feeds. Its individual linear pattern allows you to change background shading. Background shade for text can be transparent or solid. But Snowmix has a lot more to offer.

This video mixer has alpha blending and limitless vector based rotation. You can place vector based (font based) texts above or below a video. You can choose any color and there is no limit to how many you can add. Other notable features are script language overlay command language, video image alpha blending, video image vector rotation and scaling (vector based).

Aside from having unlimited virtual feeds, Snowmix has numerous effects, PAR handling, and many more. You can use PNG graphics and text. The support for transparent, scaling and clipping overlay makes mixing easier.

Snowmix can function as a CLI program and be managed over limited bandwidth. Using GStreamer pipelines, you will be able to transmit video feeds in the mixer. The GStreamer pipeline is where you can access the output. What makes the mixer most effective though, are the unlimited effects and text you can add.

Snowmix currently has support for Linux platforms only. But the product is being continuously updated; cross platform may be coming soon.

SoundHound is a music recognition / music search engine app. Available for the iOS, Windows Phone and Android, it can identify songs you are playing, humming or singing. If that’s not enough, you can type or just mention the artist or song and it will work. These features set it apart from other music recognition apps.

Thanks to its ‘Sound2Sound’ technology, SoundHound can recognize a song quickly, even a poorly hummed tune. Not only does the app name the song or artist; you also get links to iTunes and YouTube. The lyrics are shown as well as ringtones. You can also get song recommendations as well.

LiveLyrics shows the lyrics in sync with the song being played. Double tap the lyrics and the song will jump to those lyrics. Songs in your iPod can be played on your iPhone. The lyrics are displayed automatically as soon as the song plays. Of all its features though, the speed is the most impressive. It’s uncanny how it responds in just a few seconds.

The app is frequently updated. The newest version features have Twitter and Facebook updates in real time. Just tap the name of your favorite artist or band and you’ll get the latest scoop. Other features include previews, optional auto-sharing and sharing on Twitter and Facebook.
