Bluetooth is one feature that has made sharing over/with other devices a breeze, and now the comfort is taken to the next level by adding an extra layer of security with OBEX FTP (File Transfer Profile) and OPP (Object Push Profile).

Developed by Medeivial Software, Bluetooth File Transfer is one app that really heightens the file sharing feature via Bluetooth.

So what Bluetooth File Transfer brings in? Well, first of all, it provides users with a custom security manager, with which you can only accept data from authorized devices. If the incoming Bluetooth connection is ignored, the app makes sure that no hackers can infiltrate and gain access to files within the device.

This is the neatest feature as far as security is concerned. The app provides users with 128, 192, and 256-bit data encryption level with support for unpacking and unzipping of files (ability to encrypt with password) right on the device. Apart from the encryption, users also have the option of securing files with a long password. This app really takes security very seriously.

The developer claims that the app's file browser is the fastest till date, and after giving it a go on my Samsung Galaxy S (1st generation) I have to say that it did surprisingly well. On many occasions the "Bluetooth File Transfers" browser actually did outdo the others. So a thumbs-up on that claim.

Coming to the look of BFT, the User-Interface is very sleek and something that is fit for a paid app. There is no clutter or distractions, but a very straightforward approach to files, options, file locations etc. Most importantly this app is designed for sharing, and sharing it does well. Users can select to send either a single file with a size of just 2kb or an entire path, as large as 100mb+. Alongside, the app also provides with the functionality for hiding (unhiding) media from both, smartphone as well as SD card memory.

OBEX layering is very well integrated within the app. For newbies, OBEX is a communication model, which enables the exchange of binary objects between devices. The support for obexftp and obexopp gives a complete solution to the user.

Overall, the app is really great with neat features, great UI, heightened security, plethora of options, power saving management, streaming services, no rooting of devices for full functionality and endless possibilities. A great free App worth trying out on all Android devices.

Thankfully there are third-party apps such as iDownload PLUS, a free download manager for iOS developed by AppFactor and said to be one of the most powerful and swiftest download managers on the App Store.

iDownload PLUS removes the restrictions on the number of download files at one time. This is a major plus point for all iOS users on an unlimited data plan.

iDownload PLUS gives users the option to download files, images, texts directly from the Safari browser. Also, a great addition is the ability to share links, texts, images on Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, MySpace with just a tap. Version 1.3.8 also adds the ability to share via SMS feature.

iDownload PLUS adds a plethora of in-app options and is great for people who work on-the-go. So, users can now view documents in Microsoft Word, Excel, Power-point, txt, htm, html, rtf file formats. iDownload Plus adds a multitude of functions to the device. My personal favorite is the Passcode lock feature which locks the app with a password, even when the app is in active state. Multitasking support is a relief and not only do downloads run in the background, audio can also be played and controlled when the app runs in the background.

Overall, iDownload PLUS is a great app and a must have for every iOS device owner who hates restrictions. The amount of options really nails the developers statement that the app itself is the best download manger out there. The app also has a paid version at an offer price of $1.99 (original price is $4.99), but there is no mentioned difference or added functionality between the two.

For mac users everywhere who are looking for an easy way to share files from one computer to their iPhone, iPad or other mac computers, DropCopy is the perfect software to have. Looking like an alien ring logo sitting on your desktop, this little software is quite easy to use and will definitely save time and effort in transferring files.

With its simple drag and drop function, the program makes it possible to share documents, images, and other things between computers that have DropCopy installed. The program is free for personal use, allowing you to hook up to 3 devices. If you need to share with more devices, there's a Pro version available for a certain fee.

DropCopy works by locating another copy of the program running on your local network. For computers that are not connected to your LAN, it's possible to manually encode the computers IP address so the program can locate it. Once both computers have DropCopy turned on and has found each other, a small transparent circle will appear signalling that you can now drag and drop the files you want to transfer.

When dropping a file, the icon for the program will showcase a percentage and also give you a heads up once the transfer has been done. It's really that easy. If you're in a public area and worried about having people transfer malicious files onto your computer, it's possible to turn off the "automatic receive" option so you have control over who can share their files with you.

Moreover, there are two additional benefits you can get from the program. First is it has the capability to send text messages between computers that have it installed. A pop-up window will show up indicating that another user has a message for you. Second, it has the capacity to perform clipboard sharing as well. This is very convenient for a lot of users.

Overall, the program is very useful. Sure, the drawback of having to pay an amount if you use it on more than 3 devices is a bit of a hassle but for home/personal use, Drop Copy is perfect. It's convenient and won't even take up too much space.
