Flipboard is your virtual news magazine for the iOS and Android. Created by Flipboard Inc, the app allows you to create a custom magazine. From it you can browse tweets, get Facebook newsfeeds, YouTube videos and many more.

Once you install Flipboard, you’ll see boxes on the main page. To put contents on each box, just tap it. The Content Guide will appear showing you categories like Tech, Food & Design, Business, Arts and more. There are suggestions available for popular online news magazines, sports columnists’ tweets and more. Just tap the Add button to include it.

A content box can be opened by tapping. At the main page are the top story and a couple others. To read more, flip the pages. Stories can be shared in Twitter, LinkedIn or Facebook. Flipboard is very efficient in offering contents that you probably won’t need to go to the actual sites. Aside from news, you get to see photos, friends’ status updates and update your own status. All of these are presented in a beautiful interface.

Content is updated on a regular basis. You’ll be able to see new content and images every time you open the app. There are nine boxes on the first screen and the second can hold a dozen. The app allows you to view contents in various ways. The web page can be displayed, or it can be an RSS feed or HTML 5-powered Flipboard Pages. The latter is for sites partnered with the company.

Flipboard also has a category for audio featuring TWiT, Slate Internet Radio and CMJ Network. Simply tap the + icon to add a feed.

Tiny Post allows you to add photo captions to your images. Designed for the iPhone and iPod, you can use it to add words of wisdom, humor, cynicism or whatever else you can think of. Developed by Beeem Inc, it lets you add a new level of personalization for all your pictures. Plus you can share the these images on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram after editing them.

The app is very easy to use. You start by making a simple registration and once that�s done, you can log in using your email, Twitter or Facebook account. If you have used Facebook, Twitter or Pinterest before, the interface will look very familiar. Once you have launched the app, tap the camera icon at the lower left of the display. Take a photo (you can do it inside the app) scale or move it if you want and add the desired text.

Tiny Post has a sliding menu bar that makes it easy to go through the menus, settings, fees, yore profile and tags. With one touch you can find the most popular photos on Tiny Post�s network and just like Instagram you can do a search via tags. Not only can you check your posts out easily, but you can also follow other users.

After you are done writing the text, go to the �Tag & Share� screen. Aside from adding captions, you can also mark the location or tag friends. Once you are done, highlight the icon for Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr or any of the other social network links on the app to share it with your friends.

One of the most frustrating things about computing is you need to open different programs to view this or that file. Imagine just wanting a peek at a file and you have to launch a large application to do it. But it�s even worse if you don�t have the program to open a particular file. That is where Free Opener becomes indispensable. It is a program designed to open a large variety of files.

The software is tasked with a single purpose: view different files. You don�t have to open the format�s associated program just to view it. By suing this application, you can open avi, pdf, bmp, docx and gif files. It also supports the following: move, pps, xlsx, html, wmv, ppt and csv. You can use Free Opener to look at zip, pptx, png, rar and mpeg files.

The interface is very simple. The menu has three options: Edit, File and Help. But really you don�t need to use the help file. Just launch the program and open the file you want to view. As long as the format is supported, Free Opener will open it without effort. If you want to find out what files your version of Free Opener supports, check the About feature. You will also find links to the product�s website.

There are not a lot of applications like Free Opener. Even if you have programs that can open those files it pays to have this one. It allows you to take a peek at those files without opening a lot of applications. There really isn�t much more to the software. But it does the job well.

Cinemagram is a free app that lets you create moving pictures on your iPhone. Developed by Factyle Inc, it�s not exactly a video app, but more like a combination of photo and video, so the results are similar to animated GIFs. It�s a unique app and very easy to use, and you�ll definitely get a kick out of using it.

Basically what the app does is use masking and some video capture so parts of an image are moving while the rest is static. This isn�t as complicated as it sounds, as all you have to do is capture a short video (2 to 3 seconds is fine) and then apply a mask for the parts you want to keep �frozen� and those you want to move. The end result is a hybrid video and photo.

Using your finger you can color, pinch and zoom in on the image selection you want to animate. Once you�re done editing, you can apply some really cool special effects like black and white, vintage, lighting and many more.

The app sounds like a lot of fun, and it is. If you use Instagram, then you will have no problems learning to use Cinemagram�s interface, as it is very similar. On the default screen is the �news� icon that will inform you of the latest uploads.

You can share your animated photo on Facebook, Twitter and Tumblr. You can also share and upload your creation at the Cinemagram social community without opening an account. The moving pictures that people have made using it are very interesting, and you can literally spend hours browsing them.

AIMP is a free music player with several basic and advanced features. Courtesy of the AIMP Development Team, it supports 32 bit digital audio; in fact you can play over 20 popular audio formats. The player can also convert different types. Among those supported are mp1, mp3, wma, flac, ogg, ac3, cda, wav, xm and many others.

The interface is simple: the playlist information, playback controls and equalizers are easy to use. The design is sleek, but you won�t get confused. In fact the controls are simple enough you won�t need to use the help file. AIMP lets you play compact discs. You can upload mp3s within the player.

But AIMP is more than just a free basic player. It has a powerful equalizer that allows you to tinker with the sounds. The presets alone give you plenty of options. Amazingly, the software lets you record Internet radio. Numerous effects are included such as speed, echo, pitch, chorus and tempo. Users will also appreciate the fact that AIMP can load multiple playlists.

Advanced users can add plug-ins to the program. Hot keys can be added as well. AIMP has many other features worth mentioning. You can search for files inside the program. There is full Unicode support and multi-user mode. The interface is multilingual. Just like any other good player, it has a tag editor. Groups of files can be renamed. You can put tag values to several files.

There are a lot of features, but the player is very stable. One of AIMP�s unique features is Auto Shutdown. It allows you to set the time for the application to shut down. You can add bookmarks to the player too.

Paint programs today are powerful but often complicated and difficult for beginners. Doodle Buddy from Pinger is a suitable medium for budding and casual artists. When you start the app, it loads a blank canvas. The bottom deck contains all the painting and drawing tools.

To start painting on the iPad version, simply put your finger on the screen and move it around. Tap the Undo or Clear icons to make corrections. If you want to start over, tap the trash icon. You can erase an entire drawing by shaking your iPad.

There are a lot of paint and editing tools. Tap the icon that looks like a chalk. A menu will pop up: the tools include eraser, smudge, glitter, chalk and brush. You can modify the paint and ink color. Doodle Buddy is surprisingly accurate for a finger painting app. The smudge tool is very good at adding depth to your paintings.

Tapping the stamp icon allows you to use clip art: animals, bugs, smileys and many more. Small and larger versions of each clip art are available. Tap a clip art to select and tap again to place it in your canvas. Tap again on the canvas to paste numerous copies of the image.

Doodle Buddy�s Tic Tac Toe icon allows you to use backgrounds that have been pre-drawn. Finally, tap the picture icon to save your painting and tap the envelope icon to share your paintings via email.

In spite of its many features, Doodle Buddy is easy to use. The interface is very clear and the icons are well placed. It works best on the iPad due to the extra large screen.

The software has a plethora of drawing tools. You can make everything from basic shapes to complex polygons. You can use layers for intricate images.

There is unlimited undo. Pinta has over 30 effects and filters and the windows can be floated or docked depending on your preference. The multiple layer support is perfect for working on complex projects with several effects and objects.

Pinta can work with a variety of formats, including Photoshop files. Many of the tools will be familiar with seasoned users of photo editing apps. The interface is easy to understand and can be customized. There will be comparisons made with other applications. What makes Pinta tick is its accessibility. It doesn�t have as many features as Photoshop, but not as difficult to use. It is also free.

But don�t let the free tag fool you. Pinta is a powerful image editor that can handle basic photo editing jobs and complex images. Experienced users will have no trouble learning the program, but beginners will have no trouble getting used to it either. Fortunately you can experiment with the settings and effects. You don�t have to worry about messing up because of its limited undo feature. Photo editing is easier to do with the built-in filters and effects. Miro allows users to import their libraries from iTunes. There is support for Android syncing. If you are looking for the iTunes equivalent in Android devices, this is it. Aside from supporting all popular video and audio formats, you can download or subscribe to podcasts.

If you are using iTunes, Miro�s interface will be familiar. There is a section for managing music files, videos and other devices hooked up. If you want to buy or download something, Google Play and the AppStore are right there too. After you download a file, it�s just a few clicks away to sync them.

Also included on the left pane are your playlists, a video search tool, sources and podcasts. If you are playing videos, the playback controls will be at the bottom. Miro is also compatible with Kindle Fire. It also syncs with tablets. With this app, you can update all devices quickly.

For many people though, the biggest benefit is Miro�s ability to do different things. You don�t have to leave the program to buy or download. You can stay in and let it sync files as you manage them. You don�t need to install a YouTube downloader because the program can do it. If two Miro apps are on a network, you�ll be able to share music and videos.

Miro is cross-platform so it can run on Windows, Mac and Linux.
