After installing Buddi, you can create a new account under Edit, Create Account. From there it�s a snap to create a budget. The program�s default categories can save you the trouble of making new ones. Go to the Edit menu to modify, delete or add a category. To enter transactions, click on the desired amount in any account. If you want to accumulate cash totals, use its prepaid accounts option.

Buddi can encrypt data, but make sure you don�t forget. There is no way to recover a forgotten password. The software can synchronize data, import and export files. There is support for plug-ins to enhance its functionality.

Buddi is easy to use. The account registers are accurate. For a personal budgeting program, it does the job well. The software is suitable for those with just a few accounts or multiple ones. If you need reports, downloadable transactions and viewable accounts, this will do just fine.

You can also use it for hiking and ski runs via your device�s GPS. The app is suitable for those taking morning jogs as well as serious runners. It�s a nice free app for checking your lap times too.

RunKeeper tracks your total miles run and monitors your pace. Using the app you�ll be able to progress easily. The fitness app has plenty of features for beginner and advanced fitness enthusiasts. Cartes du Ciel (or Sky Chart) is an astronomy program. Created by Patrick Chevalley, it is a powerful planetarium with features similar to commercially available software. Cartes du Ciel precisely shows the placements of stars. Information on several stars are also provided. But it offers a lot more.

It can give you information on planets, asteroids, nebulae, galaxies and comets. The software supports many catalogs including Guide Star and Tycho. Other catalogs can be used so you can see thousands of stars.

Standard planetarium features are built-in. You can view the sky in different ways. There are controls for zooming in. Colored stars make them easier to identify. There are several ways to filter your searches. Once you register for free, you can look for eating places that have entered the Village Voice’s “Best of” lists. You can also look for restaurants with a James Beard Foundation award, or those that made it into the dining blog Eater�s �essential� restaurants. This new option is great if you want to find out the places the food critics are raving about.

The previous versions of Urbanspoon consisted of food critic reviews from users and publications. The latest update expands on this. Now you can look for restaurants by utilizing lists for filters. Apart from their editorial database, you can search in other ways: by what�s open, what�s hot and by cuisine. You can look for restaurants in specific areas by dragging and dropping pins.

A cool feature allows you to create a �wish list� of places to want to visit. After you have created the list, you can use it as a filter. Its �shake� interface provides recommendations based on price, cuisine and location. This can be activated from a tab.

You can make reservations with Urbanspoon. Along with its search function, the app can be your total restaurant manager. There are more than a thousand restaurants, so there�s plenty to choose from. With the app, you�ll be able to find out what your friends are eating. It comes with a GPS so you can find their recommendations more easily.

Zotero is open source software for academic research. It is primarily aimed at professionals and students. But anyone who has to do research will find the program handy. Zotero gathers your materials in one place which you can then search and edit. The software is developed by the Roy Rosenzweig Center for History and New Media.

The software allows you to add webpage snapshots, videos, images, audio files, PDFs and other files. Your texts are indexed so search results are quick. Apart from colleting research materials, you will be able to manage bibliographic data.

Zotero has several features designed to make your work easier. There are tools for managing bibliographies, footnotes, in-text citations and syncing online. There is web browser integration too. You can integrate it with NeoOffice, OpenOffice.org Writer, LibreOffice and Microsoft Word.

When you are on websites like Wikipedia, Google Docs, Google Scholar etc, Zotero displays an icon when you are looking at a book or article. Click the icon to save the entire reference data to your library. You can also save full text PDF copies of academic text. Copies of web pages can be saved for reference too.

Once you have all your materials, you can add attachments, tags and notes. Part of your library info can be saved as bibliographies with full formatting. You can save rich text memos and bibliographies as HTML. Zotero lets you make bibliographies and citations via word processor plug-ins. You can prepare your own citation designs.

There are two versions of the software. One is standalone for Windows, Linux and Mac OS X. The other is an add-on for Firefox. Both are available on the download link.

Think of Mendeley Desktop as a social network for serious academic researchers and professionals. By joining the network you can review, critique, edit and post academic research. It is not just an interactive network; it is a research tool and reference manager.

To use Mendeley, you need to sign up for a free account. Your first name, last name and email address are required. You can download the free software after registration is complete. There is a setup wizard to guide you. You will receive a confirmation email. Click and you will gain access to the Dashboard. From the Dashboard you can go to People, Groups, My Library Papers and the other options.

You can start using it. You can add your PDF files, research papers and notes. The interface makes it easy to use all the tools at your disposal. On the network you will have access to materials posted by your fellow researchers, technical databases, scientific and medical papers.

Mendeley makes it easy to share information with other researchers. Information is synced on mobile and desktop computers. The program is easy to use thanks to its navigation panel and toolbars. The interface is similar to an email client. You can use them to sync data and folders.

The toolbar buttons consist of Sync Library, Create Folder and Add Documents, all of which are self-explanatory. You can drag and drop documents for easy arrangements. LibreOffice published by the Document Foundation is a complete free office suite. It may not be as popular as other high priced office suites, but in terms of features it can compete very well. The best part is that it is completely free.

When you start the program, a menu will appear. This allows you to select what program to use. The choices are Writer, Math, Impress, Draw, Base and Calc. Impress is a presentation program while Base is used for database integration.

Longtime users of Microsoft Office will be familiar with the interface, so you won’t have to worry about groping your way around. Writer is its word processor and comes with many formatting features. Bear in mind that files are saved with an .odt extension. This format isn’t recognized by MS Word, but LibreOffice lets you save files in .doc format. You can then open the file in Word.

Calc is a spreadsheet program. You can make charts, graphing functions and a wide array of analysis tools. Math is an equation editor that displays methodical, chemical and scientific equations.

Base offers complete support for data administration. Queries from Microsoft Access, PostgreSQL or MySQL can be imported into Base. Impress offers you a quick way to make flashy presentations. The Draw program is for creating sketches and diagrams. All the programs have links to the publisher’s website in case you need support.

LibreOffice is also noteworthy for being easy to install. Uninstalling is painless too. Because development is open, it is one of the most rigorously tested suites anywhere. Any bugs are easily spotted and fixed.

LibreOffice has separate versions for Windows 2000/XP/Vista/7, the MAC and Linux. All versions are free to download and use.
