Unpleasant Horse - controversial yet entertaining title from 4th & Battery

Occasionally, we crave for games that we can enjoy playing without breaking too much of a sweat or frying too many brain cells at one time. Unpleasant Horse easily fits into this category.

Although it initially got into the "bad graces" of Apple the first time around, it seems they had a change of heart and agreed to release the game. What made it so controversial you ask? Well, not quite sure. They must have found a cute little evil pony/horse wrecking havoc and killing all the other ponies a bit offensive.

The game is from 4th & Battery, the edgier, more experimental division of your favorite wholesome gaming guru, Popcap.

Unpleasant Horse was created out of a Popcap challenge. The company encouraged its designers to be more creative and asked them to come up with a fun, highly entertaining game within 24 hours. The result: an exciting simple game where you play a black horse that's evil to the bone. Your main task is to control this flying horse, guiding him from jumping on top of one cloud to another for as long as you can. This is simple enough but all that "unpleasantness" starts when you encounter the gentle flying white horses.

Once you see these lovable creatures, you can jump on their backs to weigh them down and send them to the ground. Unfortunately, the ground in this case features spinning sawblades that grind the cute white horses into a bloody pulp. What do you get for all this trouble? Extra points, of course!

Although the game slightly indulges in senseless murder, there's no denying that it's very entertaining, not to mention funny. Controls are easy to master and the graphics are amazing. There's also lovely mood music to accompany you as you eviscerate all of those flying horses and birds.

It might be far from what you would normally expect from Popcap's family friendly title but like most games from the company, this one is very addictive. Give it a try. It's available as a free download.

Chicktionary - have fun creating words with chickens

Chicktionary is essentially TextTwist with chickens. For the uninitiated, TextTwist is a popular word game that was created by GameHouse and runs in Java.

Chicktionary is similar to TextTwist in that you have to come up with words using a provided set of letters. The only difference with this one is that you get clucking chickens who "hatch" the letters to form the words.

Created by Blockdot. Inc, the game used to be offered for $1.99 when it first came out but currently it's being offered for free on the App Store. If you're up for some fun and maybe testing your vocabulary.

Ever since it was released, the game has won legions of fans. In the game, you have to unscramble a bunch of letters and create as many words from them as possible. All you have to do is tap the hens with the letters you want so you can easily form a word. Press enter once you have what you want. Submitting and creating as many words as you can will help earn more points.

If you hit a bump on the road or suffer from "wordblock," then shake your iPad around and it will shuffle all the letters, giving you a fresh take on what's there. You can also go for the manual approach and select each hen in order to move them around. There are also additional tasks like searching for the hidden Easter Eggs.

Graphics for the game is pretty good and there are plenty of surprising little quirks that you'll certainly enjoy.

FallOver! by Arvi Teikari - Mario-esque game with a twist

Playing FallOver! for the first time might seem as if the game is broken. The game is basically your typical Mario-esque platformer with a little twist - it has weird game physics.

Instead of the typical run, jump, walk affair, your little character has trouble keeping his two feet firmly planted on the ground. He has to walk with tons of coins in his pocket when he collects them so he constantly topples and "falls over." This little twist is definitely enough to set apart the game from all other typical platformers. It's a bit short but otherwise pretty fun to play.

Giving the game a first go can be a bit frustrating. You'll need to adjust to your unbalanced protagonist and how he often falls flat on his face or ends up head-butting a platform whenever he walks. However, once you manage to adjust to the physics, the game becomes quite enjoyable to play.

There are 8 levels that you must go through. At the very end of each level, there's a flag that you need to reach so you can proceed to the next stage. As you play through the stage, it's important that your little British guy doesn't fall on his face more than three times, otherwise you're going to have to restart the level. You'll also need to collect coins as you trudge along. This will help you earn points.

Controls are typical; arrow keys are used for the movement. If you want to jump, press S. If you want to get up after falling down, press A and then press R if you would like to restart the level.

Overall, the game is pretty cool and certainly different.

Assassin Blue - cool 2D assassin platformer

Assassin Blue is a cool action-platformer done by Banov. Like most games done by this cool developer, the game is quite interesting and fun to play. You get to control a little dude, named Blue, and traverse 12 levels, fighting and slashing enemies. Some of these enemies include dinosaurs in the sand, by the way. The entire game is done in 2D and features really tight gameplay and funny dialogue.

Like most of Banov's games (Dubloon, Wolf or Crazy Over Goo), this one is extremely interesting and definitely worth your while. It has tons of awesome sword and boss fights as well as a good number of unlockable levels that you can enjoy. Go ahead and download the game for free right here or head on over to Banov's website to get it.

In the game, you travel through four distinct areas while enemies pursue you. You'll have to hack and slash your way from them. This one also includes a lot of jumping, running and climbing. Moreover, much of the game encourages exploration since there are several unlockable levels.

When fighting, you mainly use three buttons, X, C and Z. Pressing X is for when you are ready to attack, C allows you to disarm your opponents while Z lets you defend. You can also make use of various combos by just heading for the shop and buying them. The store also lets you purchase a music player if you're feeling bored.

Speaking of music, the soundtrack for the game can be downloaded separately if you opt for the quality version rather than the MIDI one.

If you are fairly good at games like this, then you might not find any challenge in fighting off the lackeys. However, the big boss battles are something else. They more than make up for the lack of challenge or the simple ease of fighting off your other enemies. In the end, the game is quite polished. It's a bit short but still worth every single moment of your time.

IWBTG (I Wanna Be The Guy) - hardcore 8-bit platformer

I Wanna Be The Guy or better known as IWBTG is not exactly a simple love story. Well, it is about a dude going on an adventure in order to become THE guy. It doesn't stop there, I'll tell you off the bat that it is extremely difficult. However, if you are a glutton for punishment and love being pushed around into complicated, near impossible feats, you'll probably hold this game close to your heart.

Another thing to note is that if you are a hardcore NES or SNES fan, you'll be grinning from ear to ear when playing this game. IWBTG combines modded levels of your favorite NES games like Megaman, Battletoads and even Contra; creating a one-of-a-kind, hair-pulling experience.

Definitely a hardcore game worth checking out whether you loved Nintendo or not.

IWBTG definitely takes the words "tribute" to heart as it recreates various iconic levels from various games. The attention to detail is amazing, even the soundtrack is the same. However, like most games from the era, the level design is extremely difficult. If you feel that every single level was designed to kill off your character, well, you're right. It won't be unusual for you to go keyboard bashing once in awhile whenever you play this game. The good thing though is that the game is quite funny. It'll be a mixture of laughter and tears of frustration but it's definitely worth it.

The game was originally created back in 2007 by Michael "Kayin" O'Reilly. Currently, it's no longer being developed but it looks and works great as it is. In fact, you get two options when it comes to downloading the game, the "Slo Mo" version or the "Frame Skip" version. The former slows down the action whenever your CPU is taxed because of the game while the other simply skips frames if the CPU can't handle it. The latter is perfect for speedy computers.

In the end, anybody who loves Nintendo should certainly give this game a try. Sure, you might get frustrated and end up spewing profanity once in awhile, but you'll definitely laugh out loud and have a great time as well. Besides, it couldn't hurt to try, can it?

Survivor: The Living Dead - defend yourself from the walking dead

Haven't gotten over zombies yet? Here's another one you might want to take a chunk off.

Survivor - The Living Dead is nothing new in terms of concept. You play a 20 year old girl by the name of Amber Chaplin who witnesses her brother's violent death in the hands of a zombie. To save herself, she flees and comes upon a large house that seems to be infested with the walking dead. Will she survive or will she turn into the next best grub for these zombies?

Survivor definitely takes almost all the elements of a good zombie game and meshes them into one big and highly entertaining game. You get big guns, a heroine that's not immune to zombies and actually gets tired when sprinting too much and simply an awesome gameplay.

The game incorporates 16-bit retro graphics, an awesome soundtrack and a highly engaging gameplay. Sure, there's just one level (the house) but there are so many unlockables to keep you busy. By the way, did I mention that the game is quite tough to beat? Don't think that you'll simply blast your way through hordes of zombies to survive. This one actually requires plenty of wit and brains to solve some of the most intense puzzlers out there.

In fact, apart from zombie blasting, you'll need to solve a lot of puzzles in order to beat the game. Your main goal is to survive until the morning comes but this means watching out for several things which include bites, limited ammo, your health bar and looking for the right places to explore.

The cool thing is that even though you do get the traditional guns, you would need to be ingenuous and will find yourself barricading doors or throwing appliances as well as furniture just to keep the zombies away. There's simply no room for boredom with this game.

Survivor offers 4 modes of gameplay but you need to complete the first one in order to access the other three. It also offers a reward system and tons of options to make your character stronger and more capable of beating hordes of undead. Meanwhile, controls are simple. Use WASD to maneuver Amber around the house. You can define the Action button which allows your character to lock doors, pick up items etc.

If you're looking for a great quality, brain numbing puzzle adventure zombie game, then Survivor- The Living Dead is perfect. It nicely incorporates everything you would come to expect from the genre; even adding more to it. A highly addictive game worth checking out.

Dash and the Stolen Treasure - entertaining platformer in Crash Bandicoot style

Dash and the Stolen Treasure is a cool platformer made by 5 university students, namely, Joel Roset, Josep Catala, Marc Veiga, Marcos Herraiz and Carles Fernandez. All of them are from Spain.

Dash and the Stolen Treasure contains fun gameplay and simple yet entertaining game design. Because of this, it's hard not to compare it to another classic platformer, Crash Bandicoot. Instead of a sly bandicoot though, you get to play, Dash, a pirate who is afraid of the water for some reason. Even though he's just a kid, he seems to have collected all sorts of treasure with him.

Unfortunately, his treasure gets stolen by a nasty gang, the Blind Shark Pirates! Our hero then sets off on an adventure to recover his lost treasures, collect coins and exact his revenge.

Just taking a peek at the trailer tells you that this game will be quite fun and interesting. Just like a basic platformer, you set off on your adventure trying to get back your treasure back. On your way, you collect various coins and gems. The game environment allows you to explore and do a lot of things like playing baseball with the octopuses or maybe run over the water. Depending on how much you explore the island, you can extend the game time to more than 25 minutes. There are also various secrets and rewards/achievements to be gained if you play it right.

Overall, the game gives you a fun 25 minutes or so of gameplay. Be warned though that it's not perfect. There are bugs here and there but the creators do promise to add some fixes to this. Definitely a fun game and worth the download.

Privates - tongue-in-cheek shooter game

Rated 14+, Privates, is a Zombie Cow Studios shooter game developed and released last August 2010. In the game, you lead a bunch of marines down, er, private parts to eradicate traces of sexual diseases. If you find battling chlamydia and herpes down the fallopian tube as interesting, then read on.

The game is an unusual take on biology class, that's for sure. The game was rumored to be released on Xbox Live Indiegames, however, a spokesperson for Xbox has confirmed that they haven't received the submission yet. If reports online are to be believed about the content, he added, that it would probably not make the guidelines they have for sexual and explicit content in their games. Well, Xbox or no Xbox, at least you can enjoy this game for free download. Happy hunting!

Despite its raunchy premise, the game features great graphics, nice gameplay, funny dialog and cool soundtrack. The game sees you leading a group of condom-hat-wearing marines, hunting down all sorts of nasty stuff down under. You'll encounter loud monsters, smelly oozes and other types of critters as you go exploring these different places.

You're going to have to blast your way through invading sperm and pubic lice using your spermicide ammo. Then find yourself heading for various other "deep, dark places" until you finally encounter and fight off the HPV boss.

The game provides five levels of critter blasting, all in different gorgeously rendered environments. With awesome locations, comes a great script to match. The script is quite funny, very satirical and quirky. Moreover, the game is also designed to teach you a thing or two about how to handle situations like these in real life.

Anyway, the game is definitely fun and enjoyable despite its gross-out humor. The game has also been getting rave reviews online prompting talks of a free extension to the game which will hopefully be out by next year.

Jable's Adventure - go on an adventure with a pink squid on your head

Developer Jason "Jajitsu" Boyer has come up with one of the most entertaining, not to mention very funny little platformer called Jable's Adventure. It's about a kid who has a squid on his head. The squid suddenly shows up one day and proclaims Jabel to be the hero. Meanwhile, Jabel is curious about this "hero" thing and decides to go along. He then sets off in these adventures where he bother's mermaids, shoots bears and other weird creatures.

This fun game contains amazing graphics that you didn't even think was possible in pixel art. Even better is that the game contains an awesome soundtrack (which you can download separately) as well as great gameplay. It's a bit short at under an hour, depending on your speed, but it's definitely a fun play. So if you have nothing better to do, have a go at playing this highly entertaining platformer. If you don't exactly fall in love with the game, then for sure you'll adore the soundtrack that comes along with it. Kevin Carville from Panda Studios provided all of the tracks for the game and sure enough, it fits way better than a glove.

Anyway, as for the game itself. It was created for over a year by Boyer. He's been in the league as an indie film creator with his other title being, Cat Poke.

Gameplay for Jable's Adventure is pretty basic of a platformer. There are no special controls that you need to learn or master. However, the real gem of the game lies in its funny humor. Even though you may think it's trite, you can't help but laugh. There are also several save points throughout the game. You just have to look for a particular character and give him a high five or slap his hands. This will automatically save your game. If you want to restore your health, you can simply drink juice and it will boost your life right away. Meanwhile, for increasing hit points, you can go ahead and collect fruits as you go.

In the end, the game isn't perfect. There are occasions wherein you have to head back to places you've already explored which can become a bit annoying. Nevertheless, the humor and the fun gameplay save the game from total failure. In fact, it's perhaps one of the easiest games to love. Check it out.
