Aion is a free to play MMORPG, originally released in South Korea but now freely available in Europe and North America too. In this epic fantasy game from NCsoft, combat and magic are the main elements, and you get to experience Player vs. Environment, and Player vs. Player. You can also choose from different classes.

Set in the fantasy world of Atreia, you have to chose between two factions and develop your character. There are four classes in the game, priests, mages, scouts and warriors, each with their own strengths and weaknesses so it is up to you to choose.

In true MMORPG fashion, you begin as a fledging hero and gain experience and abilities by going quests, killing monsters, going up against other warriors and when you are ready, fight a horde of dragons.

What this means is there is a lot of action, and it is accompanied by some pretty cool graphics, which are very smooth, and the sound effects are nothing short of crisp. But its real strength is the sheer size of its world, not to mention the updates and expansions packs that keep appearing. You can literally spend hours in a single zone as it has gigantic fortresses, towns, and landscapes.

The action in Aion is also very intense, spiced up by Korean-style combat, and the levels you can reach, player customization, fine turning of weapons, armor, are vast, much more so than other games.
Finally, the game has a huge fan base, so anytime you enter the game there is a lot of activity going on – the action never stops.

Paper Toss Friends is the sequel to the original smash hit game and developer Backflip Studios has upped the ante making it more exciting with an addition of a multiplayer mode. The game, available for the iPhone and iPad, has the same goal as the original and that is to flick an object into the bin. This is a very simple but addictive game, and you�ve probably played something similar to it in the office or at home.

The biggest difference from the original is the multiplayer option and it works just great, making it a lot more fun than the original. Because the game is so popular it won�t take long before you find someone to play against.

Aside from players around the web you can also challenge your friends on Facebook and Twitter – if the playoffs are getting more heated increase the difficulty levels. Not only is it a lot of fun, but you also get to choose various objects to throw, plus there are a lot more environments too.

The game of checkers has been around for a long time, and made their way into desktops laptops and smartphones. Checkers Free from Optime Software is one of the best looking ones for the iPhone yet.

The design is simple and clean, something that has become a trademark of the company. Controls are intuitive; tap a piece to select and tap to where you want to put it. The game has an undo button in case you move in the wrong area. The options menu allows you to turn the sound effects on or off, use forced jumps or not and many others.

The graphics are nice, the subtle colors easy on the eyes. The sound when you move the piece is realistic. You also hear groans when you lose and cheers when you win. Single players can choose the level of play. Move the slider to the right to increase the difficulty level. Warning: moving to the extreme right will make the game very difficult.

Checkers Free has pretty good (and challenging) AI. You can go up against another player if you want to as well.

Haven’t gotten enough of MMORPG just yet? Here’s another one you can sink your teeth into. Planeshift is a role playing game that prides itself for providing excellent graphics, great gameplay and completely free for download.

Pretty much, it has everything that an mmorpg has to have and then some. Immerse yourself into a whole new world and lead a life as a Vlian, Dermorian, Clan Hammerwielder or even as Diaboli.

Planeshift is released with a GNU license and absolutely do not contain any hidden costs. Once you enter the game, you are free to pick and customize your own character. The customization is taken into another level compare to regular rpg’s. For instance, you can customize the ancestry, birth date and even the fate of your character. Make friends and also create several enemies as you go on your way.

The entire game comes in 3D, hence, the graphics are nothing to complain about. Scenes and objects are beautifully rendered and pretty much detailed. For a game that is absolutely free, the graphics is definitely commercial value. On the other hand, sound effects are pretty decent. Although not exactly spectacular, they definitely add a lot of depth into your gameplay.

Another thing with Planeshift that some players might find annoying while others would find liberating is that there are no maps or guides on where to go. Players must explore the town and places themselves. This includes visiting some of the most dangerous places without really knowing. Essentially, players will need to learn the game inside and out if they want to fully master and navigate through it.

Overall, the game is pretty good. As mentioned, the graphics are nothing to complain about but players might get annoyed by the lack of direction once they play the game. Then again, the entire point of playing rpg is to immerse oneself in a whole new world. This includes finding out what it has to offer even if it means figuring it out the hard way.

The graphics are superb, and the sound really makes you feel like you’re in a battlefield. The movement system allows good players to rise above the others. This prevents the game from degenerating into a chaotic free-for-all.

Tribes Ascend has the expected capture the flag (CTF) and deathmatch modes. But you can also take part in 5-versus-5 arena battles. Whatever you choose, the landscapes will draw you in, with its cliffs, hills, and crumbling ruins. Players can go around a level, or you may have to remain at a spot to protect something.

But what makes Tribes Ascend shine is it permits players to use a jetpack uphill or “ski” downhill. For maximum effect, you need to strike a hill at a precise spot. This will provide a great speed rush. You can use these boosts during capture the flag or to dive into the heart of the enemy.

This sounds fun and it is. But you need to practice to be able to shoot targets. Standard FPS shooters will have you firing using crosshairs. In Tribes you have to anticipate your opponent’s movement. This is necessary because your projectiles, although powerful, are slow. You have to shoot ahead of time to where your enemy will go.

When speeding up, you need to strike a balance between becoming a difficult target and gaining speed. All of these elements make Tribes Ascend several levels better than the average FPS.

AssaultCube is a free first person shooter multiplayer game. Produced by Rapid Viper Productions, it is based on the CUBE engine. Anyone who has ever played Quake or Counterstrike will feel right at home here.

The game takes place in realistic settings, but the action remains fast and furious. The game has single player and multiplayer modes, but clearly multiplayer is its strong suit. In single player mode you get to play in 26 maps against the computer. There are various difficulty settings to choose from. Playing in single player is a good way to hone your skills and get familiar with the maps.

In multiplayer mode the action is even more intense. The maps really aren’t that big, so movements can be frenetic. But this also makes it easy to get familiar with the surroundings and use it to your advantage. One of the advantages of AssaultCube is there are a lot of servers available. You will find someone to play with anytime.
