Hill Climb Racing is a physics-based game. Created by Fingersoft, your objective is to maneuver your buggy on a perilous landscape, grabbing coins as well as canisters for your fuel. The game sounds simple but since it is physics based, it’s actually a lot more challenging than it seems.

All throughout the game you need to navigate around angular crevasses, narrow road bumps, peaks and valleys and so on. It certainly isn’t a cakewalk, but the feeling of satisfaction that you get when you navigate an obstacle is very good. If you fail though, your buggy will tumble down and you’ll hear the driver’s head snap, a humorous touch.

Also, you can upgrade your buggy with the coins that you have been collecting. With those coins you can buy a superior engine that will make it easier to get around those steep climbs. You can also use those coins to get new suspension so your buggy does not end flip over. You might also want to get new tires or just purchase a 4WD so you can advance further and ramp up your score.

Apart from the challenging physics, Hill Climb Racing also features different landscapes, so the game never gets old. Fortunately the difficulty level is progressive, so it doesn’t feel like you can never get over a level.

The game’s graphics are on the 2D / cartoony side, but they work well for the game, as do the sounds. Bottom line: if you are tired of those games that allow you to perform impossible maneuvers and want something more realistic, you won’t be disappointed with Hill Climb Racing.

In Ham on the Run by Glu Games, you goal is to help a pig eat veggies, run and jump on the heads of chickens. The controls of the game are very simple, in fact it doesn�t have any instructions when you start it up, as you�ll immediately start playing.

The setting is that of a carnival and you�ll see the pig simply running and running. If you want the pig to jump while she’s at it just touch the screen, and make sure you hit chickens� heads so you can get the bonuses. If you can hit four chicken heads consecutively, you will be taken into the bonus level where you can get more vegetables. These veggies can be used to get more bonuses and prizes from the prize wheel. But the game isn�t just about grabbing veggies, as there are a lot of other side missions that you have to finish in order to move forward.

Ham on the Run has in app purchases but you don�t need them to complete the game, as there are plenty of vegetables around. Also, Ham on the Run isn�t as easy as it sounds, as there are obstacles around the carnival in the form of rockets, cliffs and all sorts of traps.

This isn’t just a fun game, it also looks great, as the graphics are bright and colorful. Control wise it is very easy. Make some short taps for smaller jumps and tap longer if you want the pig to make bigger jumps. Make no mistake about it; this is an addictive little gem that is definitely a lot of fun.

Stickman Snowboarder Free comes from Turbo Chilli, the same team that gave you Stickman Skater and Stickman BMX. This action / sports / adventure game has all the features that made the first two hits, and adds a whole lot more.

The objective is simple: you just jump, grab, slide, spin and grind to victory. Use your snowboard to fly around ski slopes in various cities and terrains. The game is very easy to learn, but it takes a lot to master it. That�s one of the reasons why Stickman is such a hit.

Once you start Stickman Snowboarder Free, you will immediately find yourself skiing through rooftops, handrafts and cable cars. You will also zoom along park obstacles and of course all manner of ski slopes. The graphics and sound are great, but that is not the best part about the game.

It is learning the thousands of snowboard tricks. These are based on real tricks. So as you ski along, try to learn as many of the tricks as possible. You snowboard across four levels. As you slide down, grab some tokens, taking care not to fall. The more stars and tokens you get, the higher your score will be.

The more tricks you learn, the faster you�ll progress. The game�s graphics are cartoony, perfect for this kind of game. Stickman�s controls are very responsive. Even if you have never played this type of game before, it is very easy to get into. The left red button moves you forward. The right bed button moves Stickman on its right.

Played around with a lot of ass kicking zombies? Well, this time around fight for survival with zombies the size of Mario. Yes, these zombies are far from intimidating, but they surely are out for a kill and the their meal is none other than you.

Developed by Italy Games, yes the same developer who have given Android their best Bowling and Chess game, Zombie Dash is another masterpiece on the Android market – offered for free. This is one game that is sure to hook users to their device for some casual gaming game.

The game takes 90% cue from the iOS game Jetpack Joyride by Halfbrick Studios, from the power-up methods, obstacles, shooting styles, the zombies, to the main lead. The other 10% that is the original take on the environment. Nonetheless, the developer manages to add a bit of panache to it and make it look more original than it might sound.

In-game, players are given the sole responsibility of saving their city which has been swarmed by brain-dead zombies and fight for survival at the same time. Gameplay is very intuitive and addicting with the inclusion of jump and shoot button equipped on either sides of the screen. Old-time gamer are in for a treat as the game allows for a total Mario like feature, under which players can jump on top of the other zombies eliminating them as well as hitting bricks to get the necessary power-ups.

Overall, this is a great game and a thumbs up is surely deserved by the developer for the awesome mash-up they have cooked up. The scoring point for this game would be the fact that Jetpack Joyride is an iOS exclusive, so Zombie Dash coming to the Android ecosystem just aims at capturing the market ASAP. My personal rating 4.5 out of 5. Happy gaming everyone.

Do you feel it’s about time for some old-school 2D action? Yes, me too. So here it is, an indie RPG that provides an exciting gameplay with very decent graphics. Spirit Engine 2 is the sequel to the original Spirit Engine released in November of 2003. The sequel, however, features a whole new world, new characters, revamped graphics, and an all new game engine. Players who played the orignal version will certainly experience an overall better gameplay.

The Spirit Engine 2 was developed by Natomics Studio under Mark Play, who also drew, wrote and programmed the entire game; depicting a fantasy world with evil nemesis and various hurdles that come in the way of the main characters.

The entire game plot revolves around an extensive map that houses nine distinct chapters. Players can initially choose from a grid of nine different party members, with 3 per class and personality type. Players have the freedom to choose any class of character they decide, so it can be either Knight, Marksman, or a priest. There are a total of 9 player characters and 2 rare characters in-game.

Players are also put in a place called Lereftain which is under a peace treaty with the neighboring Yaegara nation. The continent of Medea is controlled by the tentacled, psychic Rakari, who is accepted by most humans, including the Lereftese Parliament, but some doubt his motives due to his mysterious behavior patterns. The Rakari also function as a peacekeeping force by removing criminals from the population. The three characters are brought together after witnessing an unexplained murder by a cult called the Keepers, and set out to discover the actual motive of the Keepers’. In the process, they discover a political plan inclined to wage a war between the two countries.

The Spirit Engine 2 has been developed in such a way, that the entire battle system now functions in real time with improved interface, greater control over characters and action synchronization controls for more realistic battles. Also, characters attack automatically. Battle can be easily configured to speed up, slow down, or paused according to the players choice.

Overall, the game is great and can provide an awesome relief from the conventional HD gaming experienced these days. The specs required for the game are very basic and any new age PC can just blaze through it, providing a lag-free gameplay throughout the play-time. 2D hardcore fans, this one will make you smile.

Of Light & Shadow

In the indie gaming world, it’s quite rare to find a commercial-level game being offered for free. Of Light & Shadow is one great example of this.

Created by a group of Austrian students, the gang proves time and again that sometimes all you need is creativity and dedication to create a game that’s on par with some of the more successful commercial releases out there.

This little 3D puzzle game involves two characters, Dr. Shadow and Mr. Light. As the name suggests, one can only move in light while the other in darkness.

Even though it’s a small game, it offers so much to its players. Showcasing beautiful and smooth graphics using the Unity 3D Engine, the design isn’t the only thing fans rave about. The actual gameplay and concept are brilliantly done as well.

The game introduces two main characters; one of which can only function through the lighted areas while the other one remains in the dark. Their opposite behaviors don’t stop there. They also feature very specific skills that becomes useful in certain phases of the game. The light-only character provides great jumping abilities among his strengths, while the opposite one highlights his capacity to scale walls or vertical surfaces.

During the first level, each character gets a proper introduction; giving players a chance to become acquainted with them and their abilities. Pretty soon, obstacles will be thrown along the way which forces gamers to switch between the two characters, exploiting their abilities. Exciting switches as well as challenging monsters stir things up. There’s also a nice puzzle element added to keep everything interesting. On the other hand, a nice checkpoint system is in place in case things don’t go according to plan.

Like most games, it’s not flawless. It has received a few complaints for its controls but this isn’t really reason enough to pass it off. For a free game, players definitely get more than they could hope for.

Of Light & Shadow creates an alluring world that artists and gamers will appreciate. There’s enough interesting gameplay as well to keep them distracted for a little while. Check out the trailer below and give the game a try.

Created by Halfbrick, the game will surely be riding on the success of the Fruit Ninja frenzy. But as the developers has received a very positive response for Jetpack Joyride when it comes to the seamless gameplay that has been so well integrated within the app, you will not leave disappointed.

The game puts the player in the role of Barry Steakfries, with a multitude of choices of truly amazing jetpacks. In the game, players break into a laboratory and keep collecting coins on their way. Well, it is not that simple thou. In addition to collecting those golden goodies you will also need to dodge various types of electric charged obstacles, laser beams, and rockets. Yes, you have to dodge all of them to enjoy the game.
Jetpack Joyride also features Spin Tokens that grant players a chance to try their luck at the spin machine, gifting players a second chance in game, 500 coins, 100 coins and many more.

There is no boss level here nor do players need to fight a monster at the end to win. It is like a never ending game with multiple levels. As the player progresses, the speed of the game keeps increasing which takes the difficulty level a notch higher. The main attraction of the game definitely are the awesome special jetpacks that the player gets in the form of bonuses in the game. So, there is a money spinning bird jetpack, dragon jetpack, bad hog (bike) jetpack, crazy freaking teleporter and many more to collect.

The game is really fun to play and the surroundings prevent it from becoming repetitive. Jetpack Joyride has is integrated with iOS Game Center and also has the ability to share scores and screenshots on Facebook and Twitter. Also, for the more competitive at heart, Jetpack Joyride features many achievements that need to be accomplished as the game goes by. Overall, a perfect offering living up to the Fruit Ninja saga. A 5 out of 5 well deserved.

iStunt 2 – Insane Hills

It is time for the adrenaline fans to hit the slopes for some freestyle action. Yes, iOS houses one of the best physic based games and this one is called iStunt 2-Insane Hill. The sequel to the original iStunt game, it takes the gameplay to an all new level.

Developed by Miniclip.com, the game is really great and does much more than the original version. Offering a vast game-play and some very tricky obstacles, this one will surely become a casual gaming fans delight.

This time players will have to brace up for the extreme slopes on the icy hills and avoid all sorts of danger to complete the level. The game in itself is very simple, but what really turns up the heat is the speed, so go ahead and test your reflexes.

In-game players can make a complete back-flip just with the help of the gyroscope – and the response is amazing. In addition to this slick-trick, players can also perform front-grab and rear-grab with ease during gameplay adding the extra points. Something that I loved personally is the fact that the game is highly intuitive. It is not a brainless point-and-click game, but requires the user to react ASAP.

Players need to collect green flags on their way down hill to get segregated ratings in Gold, Silver and Bronze. Players will definitely enjoy the physics of the rag-doll in the game, sometimes the head gets chopped off and the body gets mutilated. Nothing graphic, gory and disturbing though. iStunt 2 – Insane Hills features many in-game attractions, such as, Gravity Inversion and Zero Gravity Zones for free-falls and instant reactions, Rails to gain extra points, Boosts for a super-fast adrenaline rush, Fans that make you change course, and Floating mountains out of nowhere!

Overall, iStunt 2 – Insane Hills is one-of-the-most Insane game ever played on iOS. This will please hardcore as well as casual gamers alike. Moreover, with perfect iOS Game Center integration and Social-network sharing, the game takes competition a step ahead for sure. Happy gaming everyone.

Team Fortress Arcade

Team Fortress Arcade is a retro side scrolling demake created by Eric Ruth and inspired by the popular online shooter from Valve, Team Fortress 2. Ruth has been known to take big name titles and giving it his own spin. He’s the same guy who created side scroller versions of Halo and Left4Dead and even an 8-bit remake of DJ Hero.

This cool sidescroller has been winning raves from fans of the original game as well as those that are just discovering it. Like the original, the developer promises to include an online multiplayer function later on but for now players will have to settle with sharing their keyboard with a friend if they want to play co-op mode.

The game features tons of characters in different classes just like the original game. Each character has his own set of skills and specialties that you can take advantage of when bringing him into a firefight. The characters have a primary attack, a secondary one, a melee attack and one air or jumping attack. This gives you plenty of ways to take care of the enemy. If you’re not familiar with the original game, some of the characters at your disposal include a doctor, an engineer, a spy, a scout, a soldier and a couple more.

Team Fortress Arcade has 9 levels worth of gameplay and an epic boss battle if you get that far. It’s much like Contra or Double Dragon, where you have up to 4 players invading enemy territory. Although the game doesn’t allow PVP just yet, the bots are fully capable of giving you a good challenge.

Even though the game still has a few bugs here and there (full screen option for Mac still has problems,) it’s quite a fun and exciting game to get your hands on. The best part is that you can get all this goodness absolutely free! Definitely worth playing if you ask me.

Unpleasant Horse

Occasionally, we crave for games that we can enjoy playing without breaking too much of a sweat or frying too many brain cells at one time. Unpleasant Horse easily fits into this category.

Although it initially got into the “bad graces” of Apple the first time around, it seems they had a change of heart and agreed to release the game. What made it so controversial you ask? Well, not quite sure. They must have found a cute little evil pony/horse wrecking havoc and killing all the other ponies a bit offensive.

The game is from 4th & Battery, the edgier, more experimental division of your favorite wholesome gaming guru, Popcap.

Unpleasant Horse was created out of a Popcap challenge. The company encouraged its designers to be more creative and asked them to come up with a fun, highly entertaining game within 24 hours. The result: an exciting simple game where you play a black horse that’s evil to the bone. Your main task is to control this flying horse, guiding him from jumping on top of one cloud to another for as long as you can. This is simple enough but all that “unpleasantness” starts when you encounter the gentle flying white horses.

Once you see these lovable creatures, you can jump on their backs to weigh them down and send them to the ground. Unfortunately, the ground in this case features spinning sawblades that grind the cute white horses into a bloody pulp. What do you get for all this trouble? Extra points, of course!

Although the game slightly indulges in senseless murder, there’s no denying that it’s very entertaining, not to mention funny. Controls are easy to master and the graphics are amazing. There’s also lovely mood music to accompany you as you eviscerate all of those flying horses and birds.

It might be far from what you would normally expect from Popcap’s family friendly title but like most games from the company, this one is very addictive. Give it a try. It’s available as a free download.
