Valve has been getting plenty of great fan film renditions in honor of their games lately. First there was Escape from City 17, a short fan film created by The Purchase Brothers based on Half Life 2. This time around, it's Valve's Portal video game that's getting the treatment.

Portal: No Escape is a short film directed by Dan Trachtenberg. Although he's been working on the project for a year and half, it's only in August of this year that he was able to release it.

The movie focuses on what is believed to be the character of Chell (Danielle Rayne) as she wakes up and discovers that she's a prisoner. With no memory, she eventually discovers the Portal gun and uses it to escape.

For a $200 budget, independent movie outfit, Dingoman Productions has created a funny and very entertaining film. Now, the poster might not be much to look at but trust me, this one will be worth it.

The Legend of Action Man is a 100 minute film about a guy who likes to dress up like a superhero. Everything would have been dandy if only he wasn't the one causing so much of the problems in the first place. Think Kick-Ass minus the Hollywood costumes, special effects and budget.

Created by Derek Papa and Andy Young, the storyline was based on a short film that the duo created while they were still in high school. With more time on their hands, they've turned their quirky idea into a hilarious, home made film that's worth checking out.

We all grew up with The Wizard of Oz. Some had the story read to them before going to sleep and some could not stay away from the television set while watching Dorothy and her magical red shoes. As much as we know about our little heroine, do we know just how the other characters in this timeless classic came to be?
Whitestone Motion Pictures decided to do just that, and with their beautifully executed twenty minute film take us to the beginning on a journey through the life of Tin Woodsman.

Most of us cringe at the thought of fan films. We often think they're poorly done with bad actors, horrible dialogues etc. However, there are those that make the exception. Besides if you want a movie that's true to the craft, you are most likely to find it in a fan film.

Star Wars Revelations was released back in 2005. Unlike most fan made movies, this one was a bit more ambitious. It had a running time of close to an hour and a final budget of $15000-$20000.

The story takes place between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, and explains why the Jedi Order has become extinct in the original trilogy.

When I first stumbled upon this little cartoon I was convinced it was made by a team from a professional animation studio. Well, I guess the two undergraduates (at the time) from Ringling College of Art + Design who created this animation are not as far off - as a result of the film both landed jobs at DreamWorks.
The Monk & The Monkey is a beautifully crafted animation, with flawless design, composition, brilliant sound-work, (at least to my rookie eye) and simple yet lovely message. Let the story tickle your heart.

Solid Snake finally gets some face time on the big screen. Okay, so this might not exactly be "the" Metal Gear movie that everyone is dying to see, but for a fan made film, this one certainly hits all the right notes.

Metal Gear Solid: Philanthropy is a low budget film created by a group of young Italian students and filmmakers. They dub themselves as the Hive Division and the group took on a massive undertaking by adapting Hideo Kojima's Metal Gear Solid videogame into a full blown 70-minute film. For a film with no budget, the effects are awesome and for a split second it will even make you wonder whether it's necessary to have a Hollywood version at all.
