VeraCrypt<\/strong> is the successor to Truecrypt<\/strong>, and like the latter, VeraCrypt is open source, free, and its encryption capabilities are superior. Once the program is downloaded you can encrypt individual files, folders or even entire drives. What\u2019s even better is it\u2019s now possible to encrypt flash drives as well, and if you\u2019ve used Truecrypt before you\u2019ll be happy to know operations haven\u2019t changed that much.

When you launch the program, you just need to create a new volume where you will store the files and other data you are going to encrypt. The process of creating a volume and the location may seem a bit involved at first, but the good news is there\u2019s a wizard that will walk you through the process. <\/p>\n

Once the process is complete, you will have a virtual drive that\u2019s encrypted. Do note that during the creation process you\u2019ll be asked to supply a password, so make sure that it\u2019s a strong one. The nice thing about encrypting the files in VeraCrypt is you can still access and use them. When you use one of these encrypted files, only parts of it are decrypted using the key you made during the encryption.<\/p>\n

Bottom line: VeraCrypt is a solid and reliable encryption program as its encryption capability is superior to other encryption programs out there. The interface might seem a bit confusing the first time you use it, but with the help of its wizard you will get the hang of it soon. In any event, it\u2019s a handy tool to have around if you have sensitive data to protect. <\/p>\n
