Beatwave is a music / beat making application that you can use to make beats and tones on your iOS. With the app developed by Collect13 you can make notes by simply tapping on a 16 x 16 grid; you can also access numerous sound types and other grid layers. What this means is you’re not restricted to one pattern but can make many amazing sounds.

Because Beatwave lets you play with different sounds and layer them, you can compose some pretty nifty tracks. The app also lets you change and mix notes, so the only limit here is your imagination. Adding and removing notes is easy with support for drag and drop. The patterns you make can be saved and loaded quickly if you want to modify them.

Beatwave also lets you add special effects to your tracks, and the slider makes it a snap to control your song’s tempo. If you’re in a hurry or in the mood for experimentation, drag the tone slider and you will get access to a lot of special effects. There’s also a cool Grid Morpher that changes your notes every loop dynamically, great for avoiding repetitions. The Morpher alone has a ton of controls for adjusting your tune’s speed and strength.

Beatwave works fine on the iPhone but it really shines on the iPad as it’s able to make full use of the screen to make the controls easier to access. After creating your masterpiece, use the built-in link to share it with your friends. This works with both iPad and iPhone. With Beatwave you can now make music even if you don’t know much about playing a “real” instrument.
