Instagram is a solid platform as it is, but there are times when you wish that it can do more when it comes to making collages. Fortunately Instagram just released an app called Layout that lets you do just that. It’s also free and very easy to use.
There are templates in the app that can contain up to 9 images, and the process is pretty much straightforward: choose the images, pick a layout and adjust the placement of each image inside the frame. You can mirror the image, flip it or replace the image with another one.
The Faces mode will check your mobile’s library for images that display faces only. This feature does a very good job in recognizing faces, and it’s handy if you’ve got a lot of them and don’t want to scroll through each one. Once you’re done adding the images, the layout and images are saved so you can upload it to Instagram, Twitter or Facebook.
The combined photo output is the square format used on Instagram. There’s also a tab where you can see the last 20 images, and you can put these photos in other apps so you can add special effects. One of the more interesting aspects of Layout is you’re not required to create an account, so if you just want to use the app to create a collage and use it for something else than Instagram you can do so.
Layout is a basic app, but what it does, it does well, so it’s worth a look.
