These days it’s customary for movies to have video game tie-ins. Some are good but others aren’t. Fortunately, the Secret Life of Pets: Unleashed from EA is one of the better ones. This is a match three puzzle game, but even if you have played other match three titles before, Secret Life of Pets: Unleashed won’t disappoint.
If you have played other match three games before, the controls and mechanics will be familiar, and that’s great because it means you can get into it right away. The objective of the game is to match dog food, but there are different characters here which provide different sets of challenges.
On some levels you have to reach a particular number of points to advance, while in others you need to match dog treats of similar shapes. And still in others the goal is to get the items on the bottom of the grid. If you’re able to match three you get boosts and other stuff to help you. If you get to match four you receive a unique treat which if you’re able to match it, clears the whole board.
You can make various types of combinations from these treats, and that is what sets Secret Life of Pets: Unleashed apart from the rest. While most of the game involves matching threes, there are points where you experiment. As the game progresses the more difficult it gets: your movement options get limited so you have to make sure every step counts.
Overall, Secret Life of Pets: Unleashed is a solid match three puzzler that should appeal to fans of the movie and the genre.
