RIOT is a free image optimization tool for Windows. Created by Lucian Sabo, the program has an easy to use interface so you can easily compare an image before and after optimization. Another advantage of this program is that it is light and it can be integrated with GIMP XnView and IrfanView.
The main purpose of RIOT is to help you adjust compression settings without causing the file size to bloat. After you run the program you will see that it has two views so you can easily compare the original image with the optimized one. At the same time you can also see the file size increase, so you have full control.
But RIOT does more than simple file optimization, as it gives you control over the metadata, colors, the image format (PNG, JPG or GIF) and more. But if you are a newbie or just don’t want to tinker with many settings, you can just choose the default as they will do just fine.
Another advantage of RIOT is that it is very fast. Unlike other photo editing applications that hog a lot of memory and disk space, RIOT does all the processing in memory. And if you have a lot of files to optimize, you can use the batch feature to do it all at once. And if you want to edit the image first before you can do so as RIOT comes with image adjustment tools like invert, gamma, contrast, brightness and more. RIOT is a very effective image optimizer. It is small and portable but does everything you could ask for.
