Nook is a free book reader from Barnes and Noble which you can use not just for books but for magazines, newspapers and other reading materials online. With it you can download free ebooks and also make purchases, and there’s a good amount of customization available although it works fine with the default settings.

If you’ve used other ebook readers, figuring out how to use Nook should be easy and straightforward. Text is shown on the screen, and to turn the page you just swipe the bottom of the display. The app doesn’t have a lot of fancy features or extraneous animations, and that’s good because it allows you to concentrate on reading. As far as display goes it is very sharp and clear and makes use of the IOS and Android’s display capabilities well.

Nook also offers plenty in terms of customization. If you’re not satisfied with the default design, you can adjust the font size and screen brightness so it suits your preferences, margin and line spacing. You can also modify the styles and there’s even a Night Mode so it’s easier to read at night.

Nook has many other features that make reading more convenient. For instance, you can sync the last page you read as well as the notes and bookmarks so you can pick up from where you last left off. The app is also compatible with Windows 8, Android, PC and Mac so no matter what your system is, Nook can handle it. There’s also the fact that you can download several free apps like a dictionary which will increase its functionality.
