Games for all the platforms

Akrasia

Got 5-10 minutes to spare on your break? Then you might want to hit up your PC and play Akrasia. The title comes from a Greek word, meaning, "acting against one's better judgment." In the game, you play a small, round character that has to navigate inside a maze representing your mind. On your way, there are various pills that you take which helps increase your score at the cost of a degrading life point. Plus, monsters chase you and your surrounding turns dark and nasty every time you forget to take your "pill."

Barrage

Word of caution to potential players, this game might be just a tad too violent. Barrage is a free Mac game that is made in the Command and Conquer vein. It features a fast-paced, shoot-as-many-enemies-as-possible gameplay, leaving players with little to no room to dilly dally about. If you feel that you need to release some stress without really hurting anyone, then this is a good game to play.

Enigma

Some of us just love to be challenged and a quick puzzle game could do the trick. Enigma is a transport puzzle game that will definitely help exercise those brain cells and get them going. The game was based on another game, Oxyd. In Enigma, your goal is to uncover identical colored Oxyd stones while trying to overcome puzzles, laser beams and countless mazes on your way.

The Black Heart

When your job gets too stressful, and you just want to shake off everything; take a mini break and play The Black Heart. This horror styled, macabre, beat 'em up game will definitely give you your fix. You don't only get to release some stress with this game but the bonus is that it is visually arresting. In fact, I think it rivals most commercial games out there in terms of style and production values. So sit back, relax, pick your favorite characters and start beating the hell out of your oppenent in The Black Heart.

15 Ball

There' s nothing like playing pool on a lazy afternoon. Of course, if you don't have your very own pool table lying around in your recreation area, then you do the next best thing, play online. One of the best pool games available online is 15 Ball. The game features believable 3D graphics which is perfect if you feel like to experience the look and feel of the real thing. Best of all, the game is absolutely free for download.

The Spirit Engine 2

Labeled as one of the "near perfect" RPG games in town, The Spirit Engine 2 definitely can stand on its own. The game is a 2d, side scrolling RPG game created by Mark Pay. The original Spirit Engine was released in 2003 and this version is a more improved sequel. It features great gameplay and great storyline, much improved from the original. TSE 2 also features great soundrack and cool pixel, anime type graphics.

Anagramarama

If you can say Anagramarama ten times straight without fail, then you probably have a thing for anagrams. Anagramarama is actually a puzzle word game similar to that of Text Twist, except it's all for free! All you really have to do is come up with as many words as possible from the given letters and you are good to go. Even though it may seem like it, the game is actually fun to play even if you are not a total geek.

World of Padman

With so many open source first person shooter games available online, it's often tough to choose which title to give your precious hard drive space to. Of course, you might have several criteria in mind for deciding, like gameplay or graphics. One game that would pass both categories with flying colors is World of Padman. World of Padman has a similar gameplay with Quake III Arena, minus CTF mode. The graphics are quite cool and colorful while the gameplay is definitely perfect for trigger happy gunslingers.

Tux Racer

If you ever had a fancy for, Tux, the Linux mascot, then how about using him in a game? Tux Racer will let you do just that. It's a free 3D game that will let you use Tux or any of the other characters and guide him down from a hill, collecting herring on the way. You can make him go faster by sliding in ice. If you prefer maneuverability over speed, then let him slide on snow instead. Originally developed by Jasmin Patry, Tux Racer is a fun, relaxing game that's perfect for a great day off. It's not too complicated and quite easy to enjoy.
