It has become somewhat tradition during The Cologne Commons Festival to release accompanying records that help exhibit some of the best free and legal music in their part of town. The festival serves as an avenue to educate and promote free, legal music under creative commons license.

MoOt: Demo

Brit pop music coming from a guy that sounds like a doppelganger for Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong. Demo from Moot is a straight pop album that sticks like gum on your shoes. No matter how much you scrape it off or try and get away from it, you know it's just there. That sticky feeling stays, for a very, very long time. Moot's Demo is a compilation of 6 tracks that follow the pop song formula. Basically, it comes with a verse, chorus, bridge and a catchy melody; all this running for about 3 minutes or so, leaving you no room to get sick or bored of it.

HARVEST: Underground Community

Indie alternative group that mashes girly vocals with prog-like instrumentals. Harvest's music might seem like girly indie alternative pop at first listen, but if you pay closer attention, you'll hear that there are hints of prog rock here and there. Underground Community is the latest album from Barcelona based band, Harvest. The album features 13 cleanly done and pretty likable tracks. With pretty vocals and a progressive sound, it's definitely an album worth looking into and trying out.

Little Bribes: Little Bribes

Sweet voiced indie band in the same vein as Jack's Mannequin. Wisconsin natives, Little Bribes, is a perfect cookie cutter mold of some of the most popular indie bands today. With their sweet voiced vocals, reminiscent of Andrew McMahon of Something Corporate fame, plus the acoustic electronic touch just like Ben Gibbard's crew; it's hard not to fall for Little Bribes. The self titled debut album is packed with 11 indie pop tracks that makes for a great soundtrack to your everyday life. Although some songs could use professional quality recording, the album is pretty tight for an unsigned group.

Silence is Sexy: This Ain’t Hollywood

Silence is Sexy releases their first foray into the online indie music scene with This Ain't Hollywood. This is the indie pop rock group's second full length album. After relative success with their first commercially released record, the band decided to take the open source route and released their second LP directly online. As a result, Silence is Sexy is garnering plenty of online buzz. Their album is filled with lush, beautiful, indie rock tracks that gives even successful indie rock groups a run for their money.

Trick Seventeen: Spot On

Spot on punk pop rock sound from four German boys. It seems that Trick Seventeen were "spot on" in delivering their power pop/punk rock filled album. Spot On is the band's first album and from the looks of things, they are ready to release more. The release comes with 7 upbeat tracks that embody typical punk pop rock with a very slight tinge of emo somewhere in there. I guess, you can say they are a good cross between their favorite bands Blink 182 and Boys Like Girls.

whynotme: The Rise of the Big Fat Bastard

Formed back in 2005, Whynotme is a five man band from Nordic country, Norway. The Rise of the Big Fat Bastard is the band's first full length album. It's a collection of 10 fast paced, stylish and very punk rock tracks that breathes a lot of energy. Although the band claims that it was recorded in "poor condition," it's actually not bad. Better yet, its filled with fun and catchy tracks that's hard to let go.

The Sway: Going Blind EP

An almost guaranteed Top 10 indie pop rock band. Thirteen years after they parted ways, The Sway, reunites to give this whole music thing one last swig. And from the looks of things, they have succeeded. They went on hiatus again for two years after this mini reunion and as of April 2010, they were back in the studio penning tracks for a new album. For the meantime, the band definitely left something great behind for their fans to enjoy, Going Blind. This is actually a 3 song EP that would make even current so-called "indie pop rock bands " a run for their money. Their indie rock sound is definitely worthy of praise, not to mention a slot in the iPod.
