Prey is open source software developed by Fork Ltd so you can track the whereabouts of your phone, tablet or laptop. With this software you can control the application 24/7. Once this has been installed, it will transmit a signal via SMS or the Internet so you can gather info about the device’s whereabouts, facts about the device’s network status, hardware and perform other actions if you specify.

By using Prey’s powerful system, you will be able to find where your laptop is, who is using the device and what is being done with it. Once you label a device and it says missing, Prey is going to collect all the proof you request and transmit it to your inbox or your Control Panel account, the choice is yours.

Besides transmitting information, Prey allows you to perform certain activities remotely like displaying a message so the person will know you know he has stolen your device and reported to the police. It can also set off an alarm. At the same time, Prey gives you the power to lock your computer remotely and erase all the passwords.

You can control all these functions and view all the reports at Prey’s control panel on the web. At the control panel you have control over the actions, adjust the report frequency and handle other settings.

The free version of Prey allows you to attach up to three devices, while the paid version will remove this limit. Even so, the free version will be more than enough. Because it uses the nearest Wi-Fi hotspots or GPS, it is extremely accurate.
