Here we have another great app for the iPhone and this one takes the most used feature i.e Contacts, to the next level. xContacts is a free utility app, that does more than just adding extra details.
Developed by AppFactor, the same people who brought us iDownload PLUS; xContacts does not fall short in any department as far as productivity, usability and features are concerned. The app is largely designed with a user in mind and how he/she use their contact book on a daily basis.
The application features a new addition in the form of support for the grid view. So now, entries can be viewed in either 1×1, 2×2, or 3×3 contacts per page. Nothing great, but it sure helps in breaking the visual monotony of the iPhone contacts app.
In xContacts there is also a detailed view option, under which the entire contact details appear – starting from birthdays, country, email, telephone number, company, department and so on. This view in addition provides users with a Hot-Link through which, with just a tap, you can shoot an email, call the contact, SMS, view the location of the contact on the Map and view any associated URL.
Another interesting feature would be the History view, which unlike the default contact app that gives access only to the dialed, received and missed calls, xContacts provides an entire communication history view associated with the contact. That includes, recent call, SMS, Email, map actions all complete with exact date and time of the communication. Though the current version of xContacts limits this feature to 30 contact details.
xContacts Free is one of the much better free contact apps I have used on the iPhone. This app also has a paid version called xContacts which retails at $0.99, though the major difference is not mentioned, the paid version should eliminate any for of in-app advertisements. Similar to the same developers, iDownload PLUS FREE and iDownload PLUS.
Bad news for older device user as xContacts works only on iOS 4.0 and higher products.
