The District Attorneys: Waiting on the Calm Down, The Basement Sessions EP

Laid-back and charming, these two words can best described the sound of The District Attorneys. Waiting on the Calm Down: The Basement Sessions EP is a short compilation meant to introduce and haul in fans as they wait for the guys to release a full record. Consisting of a six-piece crew from Athens, GA; they first started back in 2009 playing their form of classic rock. From melodic rock ballads to uptempo indie surf rock affairs, you get a good mix from this little compilation. These boys know their way around music. From creating catchy hooks, tight lyrics and great instrument work, there's plenty of fun up ahead with this record.

Deplasticoverde

I may not understand full sentences of Spanish but there's something about Deplasticoverde that's quite intriguing and special. Deplasticoverde is a special project spearheaded by Carolina Espinoza. A young Spanish artist that released her debut EP in 2010 under Ponk Records. Shaped by folk and pop influences, the album undulates with beautiful acoustic guitars and sweet singing from the artist. Her songs are simple but they abound with meaningful vocals and some spunky attitude which is enough to make you want to listen even if you have no clue what she's singing about.

I am Dive: Constellations

I Am Dive is an indie acoustic folk duo made up of Esteban Ruiz and Jose A. Perez. Together they generate a sound that is equal parts melodic, hypnotic and overall, contemplative. Although I Am Dive is a fairly new project, the men behind it aren't exactly newcomers to the industry. Perez has been a guitar player for Blacanova for a long time while Ruiz also serves as the vocals for Renochild and also plays for The Baltic Sea. Together, they create gorgeous music that emanates a string of beautiful melodies, tight songwriting and a clear, polished quality that's perfectly enjoyable.

Branches: Merry Christmas

Holiday cheer taking a long time to sink in? Take a listen to this short but charming Merry Christmas EP from Branches. It'll help put you in the mood for the holidays. This mini-compilation gathers 4 songs that have become staple Christmas carols through the years and putting the Branches touch to it. The group is made up of a bunch of "best friends-turned-bandmates." Together they create a lovely indie folk rock sound while adding a nice home grown touch. Coupled with mostly acoustic guitars and beautiful vocals, you are sure to feel the Christmas spirit around you.

Flagfall: Basement Demos

There's an inevitable initial frisson after listening to Flagfall's first ever release entitled Basement Demos. This fresh five-piece band from Sydney is composed of Nishan David, Andrew West, Andrew Court, James Kelly and Ross Courtney. Produced and written by the band, their new EP offers six hip-infused hits created in only five days. It's recorded and mixed by James Kelly at IMS and mastered by Andrew Edgson at Studios 301.

Kopecky Family Band: Embraces EP

A "family" since 2007, the Kopecky Family Band is a beautiful gathering of 5 boys and 1 girl who sing melodic indie pop rock that will certainly put you in a good and relaxing mood. The band hails from Nashville, TN and evolved after plenty of late nights sharing and talking about dreams. Since their formation, the group has performed for several big ticket events such as CMJ, SXSW and Bonnaroo. This is the first out of three EPs the six-piece have released so far. This one is a couple of years old but it retains that same quiet beauty that most listeners will surely fall for.

The Julys

If you're in the mood for some uptempo indie rock, listening to the The Julys is a good place to start. According to their facebook bio, the band started off "as two young men coping with the loss of their respective harpy women." They've certainly come a long way since then. Now, the band is a quartet that creates some really good and catchy indie rock mixes. Instead of bitter, heart wrenching lyrics; the band takes on a feel-good disposition; filling their sound with bouncy beats, hipster style guitars and some wild Little Richard-style singing.

Oh!Hello: Spooky

Oh!Hello's follow-up to their delightful EP Beachy, is a curious thing. Originally a solo project, this Portland, Oregon band is composed of frontman Michael Todd Berland, Jordan Strickland and Nate Morse. They have already collaborated with other NW bands such as Grifflin Taylor (Faire du Surf) and Ed Hanson (Greate Horned Owl). Their latest set Spooky is a seven-track album released last October 27 and recorded under Vampire Factory.

Tin Armor: Life Of Abundance

Tin Armor is a folk pop band from Ohio. This quartet creates lovely piano infused rock that brings to mind great melodic rock artists such as Ben Folds, Jeff Buckley and The Band. Life Of Abundance is the band's full length debut record. It's currently being offered at a pay-what-you-want offer over at their BandCamp page and comes with 12 awesome tracks that showcases the groups penchant for gorgeous vocal melodies and sweeping instrument work. Each track is a privy to a sincere emotion; giving you a chance to feel what the singer is going through and the thoughts running through his head.
