[TED Talk] Eric Lewis rocks the jazz world during a TED Conference

Normal music enthusiast would dare say that Jazz and Rock can never go together. It may be because it does not complement each other and the produced music will not sound good or no musician is insane enough to try. Above all these excuses, Eric Lewis proved them wrong. In the recent TED Conference, Eric showed his special skill of mixing two good and well-established genres into a great crossover of the song “Going Under,” popularized by the gothic rock band Evanescence.

Maya de Luna “Bar Stim.Art” – Cool Live Jazz with Bossa hints

One of the things that I love to do is to laze around one afternoon while reading a book and listening to good jazz music. While most jazz music features instrumental piano, drums and saxophone hints, Maya de Luna and Bruno Stimart paired up for this absolutely lovely live recording of jazz with hints of bossa nova. It makes you feel like swaying left and right as you listen to the music, with applauses and little dialogues in between songs.

Happy Elf “Sexmachine” – free funny electro-pop album

Happy Elf is the performing name of Dutch multi-instrumentalist Jeroen Elfferich. As Happy Elf, Elfferich has released more than ten albums since 1999. He considers his music "electropopmusic," but the truth is that it is a good mix of various styles thrown together with a nice electronic beat. His latest release is "Sexmachine," a five-track mini-album that's all about dreams, sex, love, and relationships. Don't expect a thoughtful and introspective album, though; as the release information says, "[D]on’t take it too seriously: it’s Happy Elf!"

America Del Sur – a self-titled surfer/rock/punk/jazz album from Florida

America Del Sur (or America of the South) was an indie band with Phil Cardona and Taylor Ross at the helm. Both are high school friends based in Jacksonville, Florida who distributed their music through the net label Rack & Ruin Records. Their style is an eclectic mix of jazz, post punk, indie rock, and teenage surfer twang which gives them a distinctive sound that is - however hard to categorize - quite pleasing to the ear. You'd have to listen to them to understand exactly what I mean.

Cakeflap “The Bakery is Open” – The Fiercest One-Track Album Ever

The album The Bakery is Open is the debut album of Cakeflap - a four-member band from UK. According to their Myspace page, the band started as just a collaboration of four 'disgruntled employees' who've had 'one too many Digestives'. They then decided to make exhaustingly long songs that run for as long as 20 minutes! The Bakery is Open is a one-track album and that single track is a medley of 18 different instrumental songs. Very understandably, cakeflap describes their music as progressive rock and jazz fusion.

WhiteRoom – a neoromantic pop album by WhiteRoom

Ever heard of neoromantic pop? I must confess that I haven't, that is, until I came across WhiteRoom's self-titled album. "WhiteRoom" is fast-paced, mournful, and thoughtful---all in equal measures. The sound is quite unique. "If Radiohead’s unborn bastard children had survived, been raised on a steady diet of Massive Attack, Pink Floyd, The Beatles, and Duke Ellington, you might have managed to engineer a group like WhiteRoom," says one music review. I couldn't agree more.
