Tracks to Sync – June 2011 (mp3 mix)

Tracks to Sync, June 2011 (MP3 Mix) is a pretty cool monthly compilation from Free Music Archive. This time around, the mix was inspired and made especially with the FMA online producer in mind. The songs focus on instrumental ambient tracks from new and up-and-coming artists in the indie online music world. There have been several "Tracks to Sync" mixes released on the site as well. Some of the previous ones include two versions of Ten Tracks to Sync, one featuring selections at FMA prior to 2011 and ones that were gathered right at the onset of the year. There's also a special compilation aimed for YouTubers to choose from and use in their videos.

John Praw: John Praw

Wisconsin based ambient musician, John Praw, creates a stunning work of ambient sounds that swirls and sweeps you away with its moody soundscape. This self-titled release is a compilation of tracks that were written and recorded between 2006 to 2011. This album is actually available for sale but you can grab the download as long you credit back to the site and the artist, of course. His first debut record is an amazing mixture of sounds that reflect a dark, gloomy mood. Despite the gloom, it's a beautiful piece that's should be worth a listen.

Fauve! Gegen A Rhino

Fauve! Gegen A Rhino is an experimental electronic, noise band. Their sound is a mixture of unusual sounds, guitar distortions, weird chimes and occasional haunting/cryptic vocals. This is the second official release from the three piece crew. Made up of Andrea, Matteo and Riccardo; this eclectic, electronic noise rock trio have members that are all in their early 20s. Despite the young age, they create a sound that is unique and encompasses a multitude of genres. If you love electronic pop or pretty much anything that can be characterized as an odd combination of sound, noise, bits and bobs; take a listen.

Daniel Wyckoff: The Quadrature

The Quadrature by Daniel Wyckoff is an acoustic instrumental progressive haven. It's not everyday that we cover instrumentals here in Frostclick, so here's one to feast your ears on. Daniel Wyckoff is a guitar aficionado that has just released his second record of nothing but sweet acoustic guitar goodness for free. His second album, A Shift, is available as a free download on Jamendo. Before that though, he released The Quadrature which feature a lite-prog and math rock sound. The recording quality isn't perfect but you have to admire this guy's skill and what he can do with his guitar.

Frozen Geese: The Starseed

Frozen Geese is made up of instrumentalists, Dave Lazonby and Graham Baily. Hailing from Leeds, UK, the duo is bent in energizing their listeners with their brand of psychedelic electronic rock. Their sound is both rough and smooth at the same time; providing listeners with a real treat for their senses. The Starseed is their first full record and was released in cassette only back in 2010. It might be weird and unusual to release their compilation in a format that's considered obsolete by many. Luckily, the duo couldn't stop the buzz around their music. They've finally made the record available as a digital download giving plenty of online music lovers a chance to hear this amazing album.

Weezer: The 8-bit Album (Pterodactyl)

Anybody who loves Weezer AND video games should definitely download this record. UK based video game netlabel, Pterodactyl, has finally made what most geek indie rock fanboys and fangirls' dream of without realizing it, a Weezer cover album done in 8-bit! This 14 track record consists of nothing but the best cuts from the gods of geek rock. Main difference is that instead of Cuomo and crew's usual chops, it's the 8-bit sound that dominates. If you love Weezer and video games, this is one record you shouldn't miss out on. It's a quirky take on some of the best Weezer singles out there, done by some of the best "chiptune talents" the label has to offer.

Magellan’s Folly: Of The People, By The People, For The People

Magellan's Folly may not be the type of band that blows you away on first listen, but they do have a certain grace and appeal to their music that makes you want to pay attention. The band's aim is to get their message across and that is to "get people all across the world to pay attention to the world around them." This might seem like a highly ambitious goal but then again, music is a universal language. Hailing from Minnesota, this duo creates an acoustic indie pop sound infused with a political message. They try and capture the audiences attention with the rawness of their sound as well as the message they bring. If you're looking for a twist in your typical indie acoustic affair, take a listen to this one.

Motorama: Alps

Russian fivesome, Motorama, has been steadily building a solid fanbase with their post-punk, Joy Division-inspired sound. The group has been around since 2005 but they only released their first full length album last year entitled, Alps. The sound is unmistakably a clash of new wave, 80s sound with slightly danceable beats and monotone vocals. Inspired by some of the more prominent bands in the past decades, they also cite The Strokes and The Coral as bands that they grew up listening to.

Nude: Love

Nude is a progressive rock band that's not ashamed to play with their tempo, instruments, vocals and mood. Working together for less than a decade, the group is made up of four musicians who are heavily influenced by such prominent alternative, indie and progressive rock bands like  Sonic Youth, Radiohead and Genesis. These four Frenchmen create a mix of moody prog and alternative rock with an overall moody and pensive vibe. This one is certainly worth a listen especially if you adore Tool and the other bands mentioned above.
