Voodoo Economics: if : then :: iminami

Voodoo Economics is a hard act to classify. There are traces of hip-hop, trip-hop, techno, industrial and even goth throughout the tracks on their album titled If: Then:: Iminami. Yet no one genre dominates. In various reviews, the word ‘quirky’ comes up often. The band’s fondness for fragmented riffs and odd time signatures certainly sounds quirky. While this may keep them off the commercial radar there is still plenty of intelligent music from this very professional sounding band for music lovers to admire.

Amanda Palmer: Who Killed Amanda Palmer

Amanda Palmer is a performer most recognized for being a lead singer, pianist & a songwirter of a cabaret duo The Dresden Dolls. Released in September 2008, "Who Killed Amanda Palmer" is her first solo album. It was produced mainly in Nashville, TN by Ben Folds under the umbrella of Roadrunner Records (which is also the record label for The Dresden Dolls). The title of the album refers to the famous TV series "Twin Peaks" which revolves about the murder of a teenage girl named Laura Palmer.

“Coming Home”, an electronica/jazz album by Dynamoe

Dynamoe is quite a unique electronica band from Denmark. They've met almost by accident in 1997, when both Giovanni Campagna and Dennis Lee were signed by the same label. After a long chat, they've discovered they have so many ideas in common that working together was almost a given... "Coming Home" is their second album.

“psychopathethic” by Grace Valhalla

Grace Valhalla is a young, fresh female French DJ & composer. To date, she's released four albums - "psychopathethic" is her first one. Out of all four, "psychopathethic" is the most influenced by rock music. The second album entitled "PEAK~" is definitely more on the electronic side, while the third, "Wire", is a mix between the first two. Her newest album, "summerCamp", has more of a pop feel to it and is the most upbeat and positive.

Dynamoe: Jump Start

Dynamoe is quite a unique electronica band from Denmark. They've met almost by accident in 1997, when both Giovanni Campagna and Dennis Lee were signed by the same label. After a long chat, they've discovered they have so many ideas in common that working together was almost a given... "Jump Start" is the band's debut album - the first of three.

SXSW: 2009 Compilation

The South by Southwest SXSW music festival is one of the largest and most popular in the United States. For the fifth year in a row, SXSW has released a DRM-free, RIAA-safe collection of songs totaling 6 GB, which can all be downloaded for free, thanks to BitTorrent. For some of the previous editions, SXSW itself has offered torrents showcasing the artists scheduled to perform at the festival.

The Franks: Un E.P.

The Franks is an indie punk band from Los Angeles, California. In 2008 they've released their debut "album" entitled "Un E.P." under a Creative Commons license. I put the word "album" in quotes because they zoom through the material in under 15 minutes with 2 songs being in the area of one minute (maybe that's why is it called "Un E.P.)! Aside from their length, the songs are actually pretty fun and enjoyable.

Grace Valhalla: PEAK~

Grace Valhalla is a young, fresh female French DJ & composer. To date, she's released four albums - "PEAK~" is her second. It's the most electronic of her creations and definitely worth a listen. Download the Zipped Album & a torrent file here.

Drunksouls: On verra plus tard…

Drunk Souls is a totally independent Reggae/Rock/Funk band from France. Their songs, written both in English and French, are sometimes fun & playful, sometimes dark & sad, but always very insightful and strong. I think it is the ever-present bass that makes them so powerful, but check them out for yourself.
