Self-described “heavy mellow” rockers impresses with three song EP. Inertia Blooms is a quartet made up of Mitch Travis on vocals, Tim Hartin on guitars, Adam Betts on drums and Chris Traverse on bass guitar and laptop. Cours, Camarade, Le Vieux Monde Est Derriere Toi (which translates to”Run, comrade, the old world is behind you”) is the band’s first EP.

As cheesy as “heavy mellow” might sound, the description is appropriate and it clearly impresses. These three tracks are definitely worth listening to, over and over again.

Formed in March 2006, Inertia Blooms is still considered a toddler in terms of their music age. However, despite being a relatively new band, they have managed to rack some experience under their belts. The group has toured the UK twice with various bands and have released several songs online. The group has also released several EP’s, all to great reviews; including the companion release to this EP, The Past Is Just Behind You.

Cours, Camarade, Le Vieux Monde Est Derriere Toi (Run comrade, the old world is just behind you) is a French slogan adapted by the band from a student uprising in 1968. It was taken up by the band to represent the creative atmosphere during the writing and recording process of the tracks. The group, admittedly, was in a sort of tumultuous atmosphere coming from different bands and struggling to find their own sound.

All three tracks from the EP offer long intro’s, running with mellow to heavy guitar work. Pilgrims and Monuments is a catchy piece of track that makes you think back and wonder whether this is going to be a rock song or a pop rock love song. A personal favorite would be Mexican’t with its no-nonsense prog rock sound. Although the vocal work is somewhat typical, they work great with the tracks.
