Spinrilla is called the 800 pound gorilla of free mixtapes, and that’s exactly what it is. There may be other apps designed like this on the iOS, but in terms of features and content there’s nothing like it. Though the app doesn’t have a lot of fancy features, it’s more than capable, and it’s easy to use.
The interface is nice and you get to see the album covers neatly arranged, making it easy to find what you’re looking for. Sections for Upcoming, Popular Right Now and New Releases are just a tap away, and the Upcoming section is especially nice as it’s updated frequently. Simply refresh it and you’ll get a list of the newest available mixtapes.
When you choose a mixtape, the app brings up a track listing featuring the duration and titles. As you might expect there are a ton of mixes here, and you can easily spend hours going through them. Some of the choices may be familiar to you and others completely new, but discovering something new is what makes Spinrilla fun.
The app offers several ways to listen to the mixtapes. The most common is to just stream them (you’ll need an Internet connection for this) or you can download them for listening offline. If you’re downloading the mixtapes, you can go to the Library section and keep track of the stuff you’ve downloaded and their progress.
If you find some mixtapes interesting you can share them with your friends via Twitter. A lot of this stuff is worth sharing as the sound quality is very good, and streaming is consistent even on a less than ideal Internet connection.
