Notes & Scratches “Grace Park” – newest EP from a very friendly Chicago band

Grace Notes is Notes & Scratches newest release with four sad songs about departures. Speaking of departures, the band actually departs from its usual sound - the songs don't have a "celebratory feel", which is the band's trademark. For Grace Notes, they handpicked four songs which are melancholic, pining, and lonely. The album takes its time, like footsteps dragging where they don't want to go, with trumpets and viola on the background to set the mood. For sure, it's an album to listen to on difficult goodbyes. More about the band and an interview with Joshua Dumas (vocalist) after the jump.

Nasdat “Already Late” – a fresh alternative rock album

Helsingfors is a five-person instrumental post-rock/math rock band from London, England. The band, which includes all four members of the now-defunct instrumental band From the Sky, is composed of Daniel King, James Morris, Barry Rogers, Alan Ross, and John Spears. The band has released its debut EP entitled "Schematics," which includes four all-new songs. "Schematics" was recorded primarily as a live band, and as such, the EP pulsates with all the energy a live show brings. The album is available now as a free download from the netlabel Lost Children.

Abscondo “Midnight Snow” – free acoustic album under Creative Commons License

If you're wondering about what Abscondo got his record name, a quick look at his personal weblog will provide the person. Abscondo came from the verb abscond--to run away, usually taking something or someone along. This is the perfect way to describe his music in his free album, Midnight Snow. This album is arranged in such a way that 5 songs, which fill up Side A, represent Midnight Snow. On the other hand, the next five tracks, composing Side B, make up the Morning Rain.

America Del Sur – a self-titled surfer/rock/punk/jazz album from Florida

America Del Sur (or America of the South) was an indie band with Phil Cardona and Taylor Ross at the helm. Both are high school friends based in Jacksonville, Florida who distributed their music through the net label Rack & Ruin Records. Their style is an eclectic mix of jazz, post punk, indie rock, and teenage surfer twang which gives them a distinctive sound that is - however hard to categorize - quite pleasing to the ear. You'd have to listen to them to understand exactly what I mean.

Signals To Aircraft “Pilot Tracks” – German indie band’s debut album doesn’t disappoint

"Pilot Tracks" is Signals To Aircraft's debut album released only last December. The 11-track album has an interesting collection of lighthearted, upbeat songs for easy listening and slow, moody ones with heavy riffs to set a more serious tone. The songs can only be described as "passionate and melodic", with a lot of replay potential. This isn't a huge surprise since Signals To Aircraft's style is quite similar to The Pavement and The Weakerthans'. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, of course. Signals To Aircraft has their own unique sound that sets them apart from their counterparts.

Cakeflap “The Bakery is Open” – The Fiercest One-Track Album Ever

The album The Bakery is Open is the debut album of Cakeflap - a four-member band from UK. According to their Myspace page, the band started as just a collaboration of four 'disgruntled employees' who've had 'one too many Digestives'. They then decided to make exhaustingly long songs that run for as long as 20 minutes! The Bakery is Open is a one-track album and that single track is a medley of 18 different instrumental songs. Very understandably, cakeflap describes their music as progressive rock and jazz fusion.
