If you have an affinity for shooter games where you get to be the hero, shoot tons of bad guys and eventually save the day, Gun Bros is for you. The storyline isn’t much, in fact, it’s as predictable as can be. You’re simply a gun toting special soldier who is bent on carrying your mission: “to protect the cosmos from the Tyrannical Oppressors of Life known as T.O.O.L.”
Armed with tons and tons of guns, you have to defend yourself against waves of enemies. They start off quite easy to kill but as you progress, you’ll encounter bigger bad guys that’ll test your skills. The game is offered absolutely free and plays on your iOs and Android devices beautifully.
Of course, you don’t automatically get awesome guns from the start. You begin with your trusty handgun. This does the job quite well until those big burly enemies start showing up. Your only option is to earn more minerals, which then translates to gold coins that you can use to buy weapons or upgrades from the shop. It’s also possible to cheat a little and purchase weapons using real dough although this isn’t necessary.
For the gameplay, it’s as straightforward as they come. No need to stealthily creep up on the enemy or draw out a big tactical plan, you simply just got to shoot and kill whatever moves. This might seem like senseless violence but the fact is, that’s exactly what it is. You control your characters using two virtual joysticks on the screen. One is used for your movements while the other is used for the direction you’ll be firing in. Taking out more enemies raises your level and allows you to control more kick-ass weapons. If you get really sucked in, you can beef up your gear with in-app purchases, but watch out – they can get expensive! From the cheapest War Buck Pack A for $1.99 to the most expensive War Buck Pack F which is $99.99!!!
Graphics for the game are in 3D and definitely lovely to look at on the iPad screen. The game provides a birds-eye-view which is quite unusual for shooting games like this but comes in pretty handy since you can spot the enemy easily.
As for the bad points, well, the only thing that irks me is the menu which is a bit confusing to navigate. Once you get past this though, you’ll definitely love the game. If it’s fast-paced, hardcore, straight out shooting mayhem you want, you’ll find it here.
