Escape from the Underworld

Ever wonder what it would be like if you were a heavenly being- all powerful and awesome- and you suddenly got thrown out of heaven to wallow in your misery in the underworld? Of course, you're first plan of action would be to build up your army and get revenge, right? Play Escape from the Underworld and you won't have to keep wondering anymore. This 30 minute platformer game has been getting quite the feedback in reviews. Not only does it feature a pretty cool storyline (Lucifer's biopic, is what I like to call it) but it does this with a kick-ass soundtrack and fun graphics. Created by Banov for a showdown in IndieKombat against fellow indie game developer Andrew Brophy. This is one short but amazingly cool game.

The Ur Quan Masters

If you have played Star Control 2 before and loved it too much, then you'll probably love Ur Quan Masters as well. The game is an open source clone for Star Control 2 which was a 2D style RPG with arcade style combat. Ur Quan Masters is not much different, except that it is equipped with an open source code and more updated graphics and gameplay. However, the spark of StarCon 2 is still there and playing it is definitely worth your time.

Probe L

Combine cool neon-against-black graphics, awesome techno score and a one-of-a-kind gameplay and you have Probe L. This awesome arcade puzzle game sees you moving your "probe" into the yellow energy fields. You can't make the probe move directly though, you have to use the red beacons scattered across the field to move it. This game combines a fun gameplay, your wits and a pretty funky soundtrack to complete your perfect afternoon break.

Solace

Solace might seem like another shooter game out there, and in many ways it is a basic shooter game. You just have to kill and take down the enemy so you can move on to the next level. However, instead of providing you with regular levels, it allows you to traverse in the 5 stages of grief. The game was developed by students in Digipen and has become considered as one of the top entries in PAX10. Filled with colorful graphics, it is a beautifully rendered game with a nice gameplay.

Choke on My Groundhog, You Bastard Robots

Looking at Choke on My Groundhog, You Bastard Robots (COMGYBR for short), it's hard not to see that it's a relatively simple yet entertaining game. Inspired by Robotron, you are tasked to fend yourself and world from robots that have taken over the world. There are no mush storylines involved in the game. The main point is for you to fight off the approaching robots from all four corners of the page and simply to survive. It's definitely a fun and straightforward game perfect for letting some steam out.

Cut It

Back in the day, physics based gamea were sparse and hardly available. However, today, it's almost everywhere and there are tons of physics based games that are fun to play. Take for instance, Cut It. It comes from the same makers of Crayon Physics and utilizes the same physics based principle as the latter. The only difference is that you use scissors to cut up blocks and get the white box to hit the green platform. Definitely a fun and intriguing small game.

Journey To The Center of the Earth

Yes, this is one of those games where you play a helmet wearing archeologist trying to uncover several important artifacts from underground. Although Journey to the Center of the Earth is a bit simple especially for those who are masters when it comes to platformer games; it is nonetheless cute and fun to play. Essentially, you get a simple, clean game that will keep you busy for an hour or two.
